| The Nigerian president spent $1million of aid money to entice international popstars such as Beyonce and Jay-Z to perform at a music festival in the poverty-stricken country, a media source reported. A letter stamped and signed by Bayelsa State officials in 2006 revealed that President Goodluck Jonathan, then the Governor of the state, released 150million Nigerian Nairas from the state’s poverty alleviation fund for the inaugural ThisDay Music Festival in the city of Lagos in 2006, according to SaharaReporters. The document surfaced after reality TV star Kim Kardashian was reportedly paid $500,000 (£329,695) for a fleeting appearance

Hey! If its okay for President Goodluck Jonathan to waste taxpayer money, its good enough for President Illwind Obama. He´s tossed away hundreds of billions on Obamacare, $74 billion on "green" fraud and over a billion a year just partying at the White House. The widows and orphans can enjoy gazing at his official WH photos.

American generosity has been taken advantage of by other countries for so long that it´s hard to remember back that far.
If that were not bad enough, even some of our own national charity groups have become corrupted.
My family concluded long ago that charitable giving is most often honestly stewarded by our local churches and local charities.
Even more effective, when people want to help others, is finding out what local people truly need help and giving the money directly to them, if they are known to be honest and hard-working people who are just down on their luck temporarily.
What a shame that honest, well-stewarded international charities, few as they may be, have been tainted by the corruption of such stories like this Nigerian one.

Ha. Check Jay Z ´s lyrics to Big Pimpin´ and google Beyonce ´s 1.8 million emerald earrings she wore to the inauguration. All will be illuminated. Jay Z don´t bleepin ´ feed ´em.
By the way, I was going to warn you about the profanity, vulgarity, and horrid misogyny in Jay Z´s lyrics, but since he´s so tight with the President of the United States of America I realized I´m probably being overly sensitive and judgemental. I may even practice dropping the F bomb in daily conversation.
The whole money for poverty stricken children charge...if this turns out to be true they should personally deliver aid to the poor in Nigeria and publicly shame, with all their celebrity power, President Jonathan. They should do that even if their buddy O tells them it´s a bad idea.

I traveled to many countries around the world for many years, mostly countries that were major oil producers. Usually, I loved visiting different lands with different cultures. There were two countries I was always glad to leave--Algeria and, first and foremost, Nigeria. I don´t blame Beyonce´ and Kim K. for asking outlandish fees for appearing there.

#4...your comment is straight up racists and I have not made such a claim about any post is over a decade of posting...as to the article, it is hogwash and the admit they have no evidence this allegation of surrounding an event from 7 years ago...Nigerian media has been roundly condemning the PRIVATE sector producers who spent $500,000 of their own money to import American Kardashian trash to Nigeria for a 46 second appearance at a concert, on last SUNDAY no less. The DM covers KK around the clock. There is no DM coverage of Jonathan being in London last week to meet with Cameron on Mali, the fact that Nigeria committed $46 million out of its own treasury for the regional security force in Mali even as the US committed a little more than double that amount or $96 million.
ThisDay publishing just concluded the 2013 version of the event the DM makes unsubstantiated allegations about and one of the guests was former President Clinton. It was held at a new city being developed with billions in Nigerian government and private investment as one to several new cities throughout the country…

#17...Corruption is endemic in Nigeria, fueled in large part by oil development and brides paid by international companies and not foreign aid...a case example is the Bonny Island LNG facility where you reported you had some management role, financed by $6billion from the people of Nigeria, with about 3% or $180million being skimmed off the top by the winning construction contractors, principally Halliburton/KBR, to be used to bride Nigerian officials and give millions to their presidential campaign...Dick Cheney was head of Halliburton at the time and some have attempted to smear him even though Halliburton bought KBR after their bad acts, and even though it was the Bush/Cheney Administration that went after Halliburton resulting in it paying the US SEC/DoJ $579 million to resolve criminal and civil FCPA charges...not a dime of the settlement money was returned to the actual victims of the bribery scheme, the citizens of Nigeria…the US treasury got a bonus..

A senior Eurocrat sparked outrage last night after calling for the phrase “illegal immigrant” to be banned from the European Union.[Snip] She has instructed EU Commission staff to refer to foreigners who break border control laws as “irregular migrants” or simply “people” instead. But her attempt to dictate how the issue of immigration is discussed was savaged last night. His house, his booze, his drugs, his women and his 17 children were paid for by a benefits system meant to be a safety net for the truly needy.[Snip] This was one of the most horrible crimes committed against children in Britain in recent years. It was cynical. It was calculating. And it was done out of malice in a ham-fisted plot which went wrong. The trial spoke volumes about the sheer nastiness of the individuals involved. A coral reef in Northern Australia severely damaged by warming seas has managed to completely heal itself in just 12 years, stunned researchers have found. The team found that being left alone to breed on its own was key. The discovery raises hope that other damaged reefs could ´regenerate´. The new research shows that an isolated reef off the northwest coast of Australia that was severely damaged by a period of warming in 1998. It was hit by coral bleaching, caused by higher water temperatures that break down the coral´s symbiotic relationship with algae that provide food for coral growth.

North Korea has transported two more missiles to the east coast, Seoul military sources have revealed, triggering speculation that it is ready for an abrupt missile launch. As the US and China grow increasingly involved, Kim Jong-un must be brought into line if war is not to be triggered by an act of recklessness. There are two schools of thought about what lies behind North Korea’s increasingly frenzied posturing. The first goes like this: the rhetoric emanating from Pyongyang--including calls to “break the waists of the crazy enemies [and] totally cut their windpipes”--is no worse than their decades-old ritualistic promises to turn South Korea into a “sea of fire”. What we are witnessing, according to this theory, is nothing more than an inexperienced leader

Anyone who remembers the halcyon dreams of the 1990s, of civil society spreading the world over, heralding a new peaceful, global millennium, must marvel at the path the young 21st century has taken. Even those who paid attention to global Jihad before the millennium could not imagine how vulnerable the West would prove in the coming, wildly asymmetrical war. Those who, over the course of the last 13 years, have awakened to the ever-growing danger of Islamism and to the astonishing inability of decent people--Muslims and non-Muslims--to effectively oppose its aggressions, owe themselves a brief lesson in cognitive warfare, and

Sanford now faces five more weeks on the campaign trail before a May 7 showdown with Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch, whose business background and moderate politics are expected to create a tight contest. Ninety million. People not in the labor force grew by 663,000, and now 90 million. That´s the labor force participation rate. This is 1979 levels.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

According to a White House statement, the Obama administration believes the current rules allow some wealthy individuals "to accumulate many millions of dollars in these accounts, substantially more than is needed to fund reasonable levels of retirement saving."
