Who Will Be the New Ramsey Clark?
Commentary Magazine, by Michael Rubin

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 2/24/2013 6:02:26 AM

In 1967, President Lyndon B. Johnson appointed Ramsey Clark, the son of Supreme Court Justice Tom C. Clark, to be his attorney general. The young Clark had pedigree, had served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and had previous experience in government. Clark took his oath of office shortly before his 40th birthday, and played a hand in much of Johnson-era civil right legislation. His real legacy, however, has been in his post-government career. Clark was an unabashed supporter of Ayatollah Khomeini and the Islamic Revolution in Iran. In the days after Iranian revolutionaries seized the U.S. embassy,

Ramsey Clark also did immeasurable harm to our POWs in Hanoi during one [or more] visits there. Gone but not forgotten.

Harry Truman was once asked what his biggest mistake was; his answer was ´Tom Clark´.

Justice Tom Clark should not be lumped in with his son. Tom Clark grieved over Ramsey´s actions and condemned them.

Tom Clark was probably too conservative for Truman, hence he was a ´mistake´. Who would have thought that the son could be such a rotten anti-American traitor to this country. I think Kerry is showing well in the race to be the new Clark though.

´Duck Dynasty´: A&E warned Phil

Anyone looking at the "Duck Dynasty" uproar may wonder why A&E didn´t warn Phil Robertson about the dangers of talking too much to reporters. But it now looks like they did. (Snip)In essence, the network was asking Phil - a man of legendary individuality, who once passed up an opportunity to sign with the NFL because it might interfere with his hunting - to be somewhat less Phil-like. But that is the kind of wobbly bargain that reality TV producers have been forced to make. If they bought the show, they were getting a volatile personality in the mix. A&E could of

Mixed with the dollar bills and loose change dropped in the Salvation Army´s red kettles this Christmastime are less obvious tokens of generosity: gold coins, $50,000 from a "Secret Santa," lottery tickets and Viagra. Every holiday season, sure as Santa mounts his sleigh at the mall, the Salvation Army bell ringers are out in force, stationed along the harried pathways of holiday shoppers across the country. Less certain is how many diamond rings or South African Krugerrands will be found in those kettles, but such things happen every year. Already, outside a Wal-Mart store in Colorado Springs, Colo., one kettle got

By the time President Obama gave his news conference on Friday, there was really only one course to take on surveillance policy from an ethical, moral, constitutional and even political point of view. And that was to embrace the recommendations of his handpicked panel on government spying — and bills pending in Congress — to end the obvious excesses. He could have started by suspending the constitutionally questionable (and evidently pointless) collection of data on every phone call and email that Americans make.He did not do any of that. Sure, Mr. Obama thanked his panel for making 46 recommendations to restore

The holiday season brings with it the usual assortment of college bowl games, from the classic Rose, Orange and Sugar, all the way to the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, the Beef ´O´ Brady´s Bowl and, my favorite, the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Each contest involves the migration across the country of hordes of players, coaches, alumni boosters, band members, mascots—and, of course, cheerleaders. Remarkably, recent science suggests that if this final group weren´t included, it would probably alter the quality of play. All because males can be kind of pathetic. WASHINGTON — More than two years after sensitive information about the Osama bin Laden raid was disclosed to Hollywood filmmakers, Pentagon and CIA investigations haven’t publicly held anyone accountable despite internal findings that the leakers were former CIA Director Leon Panetta and the Defense Department’s top intelligence official. Instead, the Pentagon Inspector General’s Office is working to root out who might have disclosed the findings on Panetta and Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence Michael Vickers to a nonprofit watchdog group and to McClatchy. While the information wasn’t classified, the inspector general’s office has pursued the new inquiry aggressively, grilling its own investigators,

The decision this month by a federal court striking down the criminalization of polygamy in Utah was met with a mix of rejoicing and rage. What was an emancipating decision for thousands of plural families was denounced as the final descent into a moral abyss by others. Former senator Rick Santorum was among the social conservatives trying to claim the moral high ground. He tweeted on Sunday: “Some times I hate it when what I predict comes true” — referring to his 2003 claim that legalizing “consensual sex within your home” would lead to the legalization of polygamy and “undermine

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker signed an Indian mascot bill on Thursday that will make it harder for politically correct meddlers to force public schools around the state to change their mascots, logos and team names. Before he signed the bill, Walker informed state tribal leaders in a letter. “I share many of your concerns about some of the mascots and nicknames used in Wisconsin and across America,” the governor wrote, according to The Capital Times. “If it were up to me personally, I would seek viable alternatives that were not offensive to Native Americans.” In the same letter, Walker also pointed out that

On Monday, U.S. District Court Judge Richard Leon declared that the bulk of the National Security Agency’s collection of Americans’ telephone records is likely to violate the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution’s ban on unreasonable search. Some legal experts contend that this may be the first step in a march to the Supreme Court. It may also be the beginning of the rehabilitation of Edward Snowden, the former NSA contractor who disclosed almost 200,000 classified documents to the press. Mr. Snowden has obtained limited asylum in Russia to avoid prosecution in the United States for espionage. In a recent statement, Mr.

The press was, in the words of the National Journal, “feisty.” When the New York Times reporter Jackie Calmes was called upon, she saluted the president with a Hawaiian words ”Mele Kalikimaka.”

The wrecking ball swung again toward the crumbling Obamacare edifice yesterday. Ironically, it continues to be the Obama administration that is operating the heavy machinery. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced, in the form of a letter to Democratic senators, that Obamacare’s individual mandate tax will be waived in 2014 for persons who had their policies canceled in 2013 due to Obamacare. At this point, after months of on-the-fly pronouncements, delays, and exemptions (often announced, not coincidentally, in the days just before a major national holiday), perhaps nothing should surprise us anymore about Obamacare’s disastrous rollout. Why did Hitler crave the missing panel in the famous Ghent Altarpiece? Maybe because the Nazi’s paranormal research group thought the masterpiece contained a map to the Holy Grail. On the night of 10 April 1934, one of the twelve oak panels that comprise Jan van Eyck’s famous painting, Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, was stolen from Saint Bavo Cathedral, in Ghent, Belgium. Often referred to as “The Ghent Altarpiece,” this monumental oil painting is arguably the single most influential painting ever made. It is also the most-frequently stolen, having been burgled, in its entirety or in parts, at least six

As the final maneuver in that plan, the President is releasing several reports on how Obamacare will affect the states. His message: repealing Obamacare will just be too expensive. "These state reports mark the culmination of a multi-week effort by the White House and supporters of reform to bring a renewed refocus on each of these benefits and what the cost of repealing them would mean," a White House official told reporters at The Hill. The Robertson family of "Duck Dynasty" fame has rallied around its patriarch, saying his controversial comments on homosexuality are "grounded in the teachings of the Bible." But Scripture is fiercely contested ground, and some experts say Phil Robertson misinterprets a key Bible verse. In the article, Robertson, who became a born-again Christian in the 1970s after a prodigal youth, is asked to define "sin."
