The downfall of Jesse Jackson jnr,
the man who might have beaten
Obama to the White House

Telegraph [UK], by John Avlon

Political scandals generally come in two sizes: standard sleaze and buffoonish corruption. This week, Jesse Jackson jnr — the former congressman and son of the controversial civil rights leader — pleaded guilty to an array of campaign finance crimes that would have made the most hardened Chicago political mover blush. Working in cahoots with his wife, Sandi — until recently a Chicago alderman — the Jackson duo managed to enrich themselves off campaign funds with an evident weakness for luxury items ranging from a $43,000 Rolex watch to a fedora once worn by Michael Jackson. This writer is delusional.
Jackson 1 and Jackson 2 are only good at squeezing other peoples´ money and spending it.

It is a sign of the times that people feel that the Jacksons will not serve any prison time or receive any other significant punishment. It is the way the justice system shows its concern for diversity.

This is the same Avlon who writes for the Daily Beast? He might have a bit of a point. JJJ had powerful connections who could have gotten him to a candidacy, I think, and Jackson is plenty smart. But, he doesn´t have the exotic background that Obama has. I think Obama dazzled voters. I don´t believe Jesse, Jr. could have don that. In addition, everything I have read about the Jackson family indicates that Jesse, Sr., blocked Jr. everywhere he could, maybe out of jealousy.

If anybody, ANYBODY, had give a tenth part of the scrutiny given to Jesse Junior, to Bronco Bama, the Great Imposter would not be squatting in the White Hut today. Bronco Bama is WAY dirtier than Jackson ever was, but some highly placed people have been opening doors and quieting eruptions for both Bronco and Muchelle for a long time now, and they are not about to lose their investment.

Bronco should never have won that first election to the Illinois Senate (in which all his challengers were somehow "disqualified", leaving him essentially unapposed), and for sure not the seat in the US Senate. He has, in fact, never fairly won anything in his life, wouldn´t know how. His victories have all come at the expense of his rivals for office, who were subjected to perhaps the most underhanded kinds of character assassinations and what would be actionable slanders in any other venue, with a great deal of opposition research being expended on what are really trivial matters, but blown up vastly out of proportion.

This is all much sleazier than anything the Clintons ever attempted. And Lord knows, that pair were masters at avoiding culpability in ANYTHING.

1. This sort of thing didn´t just pop up. You can be pretty confident they´ve both been crooks a long time. And -- JJ Sr. never knew anything?

2. What they spent the stolen money on is quite revealing of their "values" and "tastes," too. Yuck.

FTA: Working in cahoots with his wife, Sandi — until recently a Chicago alderman — the Jackson duo managed to enrich themselves off campaign funds with an evident weakness for luxury items....

a. Calling their loot collection "luxury items" is w-a-a-a-y-y beyond generous.
b. Linguistic question: since "chairman" must be expunged in favor of "chair" [but I think there´s some furniture that goes by that name already?], doesn´t that make Sandi an "alder"?

FTA: Despite earning a combined taxpayer-subsidised salary of more than $250,000 a year, 47-year-old Jackson jnr and his wife started dipping into campaign coffers....

Well, first, their pay isn´t "subsidized," but entirely paid by taxpayers. Then, let´s say it´s "paid," not "earned." And also let´s remember all the expenses that taxpayers are also stuck paying. And come on -- "dipping"? And why isn´t the estimated loot total mentioned?

FTA: Sandi’s political consultancy received more than $250,000 from her husband’s congressional campaigns over the past decade.

No doubt 100% above-board. No doubt.

Projecting madly, the White House on Sunday pushed the notion that Republican intransigence is the reason that Democrats have been unable to pass a budget during President Obama’s tenure. “Right now,” said senior White House advisor Dan Pfeiffer on Fox News Sunday, “the approach of many Republicans, particularly the leadership in the House, is my way or the highway.” This is certainly rich coming from an administration that has failed to garner a single “yes” vote on its budget proposals for the past several years, even from members of its own party. No doubt there are parents who have frank, frequent, open and easy discussions with their teens about sex. I’ve never met any. I do know parents, however, who were stunned to find their 15-year-old’s birth control pills in her pocketbook. Or who came home early to discover junior and a girl they’d never met frantically buttoning up. Such sobering tales of teens snookering mom and dad caused mixed emotions in me — a solidly pro-choice

A few years after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Lindalyn Adams was escorting visitors on a bus traveling down Elm Street near Dealey Plaza. “I was pointing out the John Neely Bryan cabin and the Old Red Courthouse, and suddenly I realized the whole bus was leaning towards the right as we were going close to the Texas School Book Depository, and the women [were] pointing and saying, “Is that? Is that? Is that?’” Adams recalled during an oral history interview. She knew, of course, what “that” meant. “That” was where Kennedy had been shot.
