President Obama’s apocalyptic predictions of the harm that would come to the country if the latest round of budget cuts kick in late next week are starting to wear thin among an unlikely group: the White House press corps.Mr. Obama has spent the past week issuing a series of dire warnings about the economic and personal consequences of allowing the so-called sequester spending cuts to occur March 1.
The media has been more than happy to carry Obama´s water for 4+ years but his claims on the sequester were too much for even them to swallow. To show what a doofus of a president Obama is, he consults Al Sharpton instead of real people who could remedy the situation. Even worse while this is going on,Obama wants another $50 billion for infrastructure, ignoring the fact that $800 billion was already wasted on this crap before.
Mr Brilliant Politician probably shouldn´t have dated Tiger and Reggie last weekend rather than letting the MSM service him as is their wont. Bad timing to scorn them when he needs their help so badly in his drive to never cut one thin dime from the money pipeline.
Not that I think the WH pressies are on the brink of a revolt against the Obiemeister, but, interesting that even these drones are starting to wake up. Equally interesting that Obie is restricting their accees to him to these so-called "off-the-record" meetings. Could be that someone or something from outside of the WH press corps is planting information with them, aka "the real story". By the way, I thought we were going to deport Piers?
All of these things will likely happen at some point but not because of sequester but rather due the failed policies and actions of this administration. Barry is just setting up an alibi trail so he can blame the pubs for all the bad headed our way.
Exaggerated and false promises from politicians are what people expect but to be disrespected, stolen from, and lied to, is not part of the deal with the taxpaying public. Maybe the drones were the last straw, or maybe it was Tiger, or Benghazi, or Lew or .....
Obama is using his sequester as a smokescreen for a dismal economic period in 2013-14 due to his policies. Unemployment moves up to 8.5% - blame GOP and its desire to hurt middle class. Annual GDP growth remains at appalling 0.5 - 1.0%, blame Boehner. Gasoline prices reach $4.75-$5.00 per gallon, blame Cantor. Obama will point his ugly Index Finger of Blame at the GOP at every opportunity, and the Bob Schieffers, Brian Williams, Wolf Blitzers and their ilk will play the video over and over.
Link should have screen shot of CNN´s Blitzer to show media still defends Obama. http://t.co/UNPbZZYoWE
However, the GOP needs to hold firm on "this is what the president wanted and negotiated, so he must have wanted these results. And his Democrat Senate sat around doing nothing so they must have wanted this too."
If you want better results you need to stop electing these liberal democrats. We have presented ideas to help expand the economy and reduce expenses.
The president keeps pushing his failed policies. The Democrats in the Senate have been in-charge for the last 6 years, and haven´t even bothered to present a budget in the last 4. The Democrats in the House are being led by the most liberal area in the country, San Francisco. Do you support the same ideas as those from San Francisco?
The inner-cities have been represented by mostly Democrats for decades. Is life improving there?
Yes, we need to elect better people, but who thinks Chuckie Schumer, Charlie Rangle, Sheila Jackson Lee, Maxine Waters, Hank Johnson, Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Debbie Wasserman-Schulze or the likes of any Kennedy (they are running again) will ever be voted out. They just elected that horrible dishonest, lying, cheating fake indian Warren woman in Mass. and her background was well documented and known.
This is a story I heard a few years ago. During the 80´s there was talk about having to shut down the government. All the press were doom and gloom. Reportedly and I believe it, President Reagan said in his usual voice, " Let´s just shut it down and see if anyone notices." That is the way I feel now.
@#17: Name one thing the GOP has held firm on since they took control of the House 25 months ago? Something that made a r-e-a-l difference?
The GOP will do nothing to save anyone from anything. Obama has gotten where he is in life by playing the racial blame game an it works every time. The next example of the GOP caving will be held shortly when Hagel is confirmed a SecDef. Then they`ll cave on Brennan and then Lew - and blah blah blah....
Unleashing a barrage of expletives that would be unusual even in an off-the-record conversation, the chief spokeswoman for Anthony D. Weiner’s embattled campaign for mayor attacked a former campaign intern in an interview published on Tuesday night. Barbara Morgan, in an interview with Talking Points Memo, a political news site, was responding to a first-person account by Olivia Nuzzi, the former intern, who wrote harshly in The Daily News about her experiences with the campaign. Ms. Nuzzi claimed that Mr. Weiner repeatedly called interns by the wrong name, underpaid a staff
THERE is something missing from the endless moralizing and sophomoric jokes aimed at Anthony D. Weiner. That something is the role of women in a coarse and creepy Internet culture dedicated to the fulfillment of both male and female desires for virtual carnal knowledge. People ask how Mr. Weiner’s wife, the soulfully beautiful and professionally accomplished Huma Abedin, can stay with him. My question is why hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of women apparently derive gratification from exchanging sexual talk and pictures with strangers.
The American journalism trade is breathing a collective – but premature and, in many cases, grossly hypocritical – sigh of relief today. A military judge has found Bradley Manning guilty of many crimes, but "aiding the enemy" isn´t one of them. Had the judge found Manning guilty of aiding the enemy, she would have set a terrible precedent. For the first time, an American court – albeit a military court – would have said it was a potentially capital crime simply to give information to a news organization, because in the internet era
Green paint was found Monday defacing a statue outside the Smithsonian Castle on the National Mall and poured atop an organ in a chapel at the Washington National Cathedral, just three days after the Lincoln Memorial was vandalized in a similar manner. D.C. police have now joined the U.S. Park Police in the investigation, but authorities said they do not know if any of the incidents are related.
"I think every president in the intense media environment we have now, certainly every two-term president, gets to a point where the American people stop listening, stop leaning forward hungrily for information. I think this president got there earlier than most presidents. And I think he´s in that time now."So said the Wall Street Journal´s Peggy Noonan on ABC´s This Week Sunday.
David Axelrod, a former senior adviser to President Obama, said Sunday that Former Rep. Anthony Weiner was “delusional” and should drop out of the race for New York City mayor."I think it´s time for him to go away and let New York have its mayor’s race," Axelrod said on NBC´s "Meet thePress." Axelrod said he had not commented on Weiner because he is personal friends with Weiner´s wife,
Weiner’s political career will never end, if only because of how much value he has to offer to the media, standup comedians and bored browsers looking for some news item to wake them up long enough to finish another hour of data entry at their job. Shame has become a mostly discredited concept. The return of Weiner and Spitzer to public life proves as much. But the Era of Shame ended conclusively with Clinton’s impeachment proceedings. The only outcome of those proceedings was to degrade the country while leaving the man at the center of the mess intact.
Sometimes James Risen feels like Jean Valjean, the beleaguered protagonist of “Les Miserables,” hounded for years by the authorities. “They just keep coming at me,” Mr. Risen, a Times reporter in Washington, told me by phone last week. It has been 10 years since he learned of a secret C.I.A. program to interfere with Iran’s quest for nuclear weapons, and six since he got an ominous FedEx package containing a government subpoena. Since then, it has been one legal hurdle after another, trying to stay out of court. Just over a week ago, another blow came: A federal appeals court panel ruled,
In a new sign of tumult within Anthony D. Weiner’s embattled political operation, his campaign manager has quit, leaving his already skeletal team without a day-to-day leader. According to two people told of the decision, the campaign manager, Danny Kedem, no longer wished to oversee Mr. Weiner’s bid for New York mayor after a week of bruising revelations about the candidate’s latest online conduct. The two people, who have close ties to the campaign, did not want to be identified because they were disclosing confidential conversations.
Hamilton Jordan, Jimmy Carter’s young, brash chief of staff, was famous during the administration for negotiating tough deals, carousing at night and shunning the stuffy customs of official Washington. He spent the final years of his life on a quieter pursuit: writing a memoir of nearly 300 pages that was not quite finished at the time of his death in 2008. Now his daughter, Kathleen, a 24-year-old television producer, is rushing to polish the manuscript in the hope of getting it published
President Obama suggested that states reconsider "stand your ground" laws, and contended that they invite people to use deadly force when it is not justified. The following statement proves Mr. Obama´s well-known dishonesty, as demonstrated below. I refer specifically to his implication that "stand your ground" means you can shoot somebody who makes you "feel threatened." And for those who resist that idea that we should think about something like these "stand your ground" laws, I just ask people to consider if Trayvon Martin was of age and armed,
If you have never suffered from lingering low back pain, you’re lucky or, more likely, young. Up to 80 percent of us will experience low back pain at some point. And for most, there won’t be an identifiable cause. In the past 10 years, the most popular nonsurgical medical treatment for “chronic, nonspecific” low back pain has been injection therapy, or shots into the lower back of various substances — usually cortisone but also liquid ibuprofen, morphine and vitamin B12.
Conservative bloggers went wild Monday when they got wind of the Congressional Black Caucus’ suggestion that President Obama pick Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston for the post of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Rich Cooper, avid blogger for Security Debrief, responded to the news of the Jackson Lee recommendation in a post by saying, “Apparently, it is not a joke. For reasons that baffle any sense of reality, it is a serious gesture on the part of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to encourage President Obama to nominate Rep. Jackson Lee
There have been days since her son Ezekiel was born 11 months ago that Los Angeles mom Beth Capper has gone without food to keep up her supply. One friend was arrested for stealing some. It´s not drugs or alcohol or even baby formula that has put her in such a bind. It´s diapers. "There´s no way around buying them," said Capper, a 41-year-old single mother who doesn´t work because of a disability. Across the country, mothers like Capper are facing the same predicament. According to a report published Monday in the
America is in great shape energy-wise. We have more gas and oil reserves than ever before. Indeed, the United States could shortly become the world’s largest exporter of coal. Our cheaper power rates may bring energy-intensive industry back from Europe and Asia. If America’s small colleges are nearly broke and our public schools failing, nonetheless our blue-chip universities’ math, science, and engineering departments, and professional schools, remain the best in the world. It is a small Alaskan village whose inhabitants have relied on the sea for countless generations. But within a decade, it is expected that the ocean which the village of Kivalina has so relied on will completely destroy it--creating America´s first climate change refugees. Temperatures in the Arctic region of Alaska are warming twice as fast as the rest of the U.S, causing ice to retreat, sea levels to rise and coastal erosion to increase. It is a small Alaskan village whose inhabitants have relied on the sea for countless generations. The 400 indigenous Inuit inhabitants of Kivalina, who live
Anthony Weiner may have violated federal law when he failed to disclose his lavish six-figure wedding in his financial disclosure forms, says a government accountability group. Ethics watchdog group National Legal and Policy Center examined the federal Financial Disclosure Reports for both Weiner and long-suffering wife Huma Abedin for 2010, the year of their wedding. The cost for the ceremony was at least $100,000 but probably ran closer to $250,000 including all
In an interview on National Public Radio (NPR), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said her new agenda for women will give mothers access to day care so they can “earn without carrying the burden of child care.” During the interview, aired on Weekend Edition Sunday, Pelosi spoke about her newly announced agenda, which is on her website, and is titled, “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families,” a plan that includes universal pre-school and access to day care for working women, and an increase in the minimum wage.
Gotta figure her lead would be even bigger without Joe Miller in the field here. Her nomination for the taking? Alaska should be a top tier pick up opportunity for Senate Republicans next year…but their top choice of a candidate is Sarah Palin. 36% of GOP primary voters in the state say they’d like Palin to be their standard bearer against Mark Begich to 26% for Mead Treadwell, 15% for Dan Sullivan, and 12% for Joe Miller.
Many low-income families receive government assistance to help them purchase food and housing. Diapers are another story, a new study suggests. In what they are calling the first peer-reviewed study to quantify diaper need, Yale University researchers have found nearly a third of mothers cannot afford to purchase their infants diapers, raising health risks for not only babies but for moms who become stressed over the finances. "Notably absent from the antipoverty efforts targeting families is an essential staple for the health of children, diapers," wrote the researchers, led by Dr. Megan Smith,
Mideast: The sequester has "cost jobs," says President Obama, and "gutted investments in education and science and medical research." But somehow he´s earmarked $500 million for Hamas terrorists. Circumventing Congress and with no fanfare, President Obama last week issued an executive order enabling him to send an additional $500 million directly to the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank — much of which you can bet will wind up going to the Iranian-backed Hamas terrorist organization. According to Obama, "it is important to the national security interests of the United States to waive the provisions of" Congress´ legislative restrictions "in
The mother of Trayvon Martin said Monday that she believed Florida’s Stand Your Ground law played a role in her son’s shooting death, but she wasn’t ready to support a boycott of the state for not changing the self-defense law. “The thing about this law is I just think it assisted the person who killed my son to get away with murder,” Sybrina Fulton, the mother of the 17-year-old from Miami Gardens, said at a National Bar Association event in Miami Beach. “I think we have to change these laws so people don’t get
A group of experts advising the nation’s premier cancer research institution has recommended sweeping changes in the approach to cancer detection and treatment, including changes in the very definition of cancer and eliminating the word entirely from some common diagnoses. (Snip) The group, which includes some of the top scientists in cancer research, also suggested that many lesions detected during breast, prostate, thyroid, lung and other cancer screenings should not be called cancer at all but should instead be reclassified as IDLE conditions, which stands for “indolent lesions of
Karl Rove and more than one hundred Republican donors sent a letter to Republican members of Congress on Tuesday, urging them to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would include, among other provisions, granting "legal status" to illegal aliens who meet certain criteria. Anticipating that lawmakers will face resistance to the bill when they go home for the August recess, the letter marks the escalation of a campaign in which Republican leaders and donors are pressuring House Republicans to act on an immigration reform bill.
