Nuclear tank leaking
in Washington state

Telegraph [UK], by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:Attercliffe, 2/23/2013 6:11:19 AM

Six underground radioactive waste tanks at the nation's most contaminated nuclear site are leaking, Washington state governor Jay Inslee said on Friday. Mr Inslee made the announcement after meeting with federal officials in Washington DC. Last week it was revealed that one of the 177 tanks at south-central Washington´s Hanford Nuclear Reservation was leaking liquids. Mr Inslee called the latest news "disturbing." The tanks, which already are long past their intended 20-year life span, hold millions of gallons of a highly radioactive stew left from decades of plutonium production for nuclear weapons. The US Department of Energy said earlier that liquid levels were decreasing in one of the tanks at the site.

On top of everything else, this will become another condition for the left to exploit. They´ve been wanting to shut down nuclear plants for decades and regardless if this poses a real threat or not, they´ll be pulling their hair out within a week or so from now.

The problem isn´t the nuclear plant and it´s not a new problem. My family lives just across the Columbia River from there and this has been an ongoing problem as long as I can remember. They have been working on cleaning the site up for years. Unfortunately, during the war when reasearch into the Bomb was number 1, no one thought of the consequences of just burying all of the waste or throwing it all into tanks together. No one really knows what is buried or exactly what is in the tanks. They have had to occasionally "burp" the tanks for years, just to keep them from exploding. My point is that the only thing new about this is the hysteria.

IMHO this temporary storage exists because of the failure to use yucca mountain in nevada. Thanks to democrats the gooberment has wasted billions of dollars and put the columbia river at risk. What a bunch of ignorant clowns.

Harry Reid has been fighting the commonsense of storing this waste in Yucca Mtn for as long as he has been in Congress. And any disaster that comes from this situation should bury him 10 feet deep.

When the Dems tell you something won´t work, it´s best to listen to them because they will sabotage it to death.

If they tell you something will work you can equally expect to be blamed for it´s failure.

Commies destroy everything.

That´s half the fun.

There was a proposal to have a storage location in Yucca Mountain in Nevada, but Democrat Harry Reid squashed that Bush idea.

Democrats don´t want oil, coal, or nuclear power.

They don´t have viable alternatives.

I blame fracking.

[James Taranto will blame George W.Bush.]

Seriously -- the only reason there´s an issue with the Hanford site is that the gov´t didn´t care, and no one was accountable.

FTA: Democratic Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon said earlier this week that he shares their concerns about the integrity of the tanks, but that he wants more scientific information to determine it´s the correct way to spend scarce money.

Translation: The Dems would rather have a problem to posture with than a problem solved.

And yes, there´s Harry Reid. He made sure: a. the money already spent on Yucca Mountain would have no productive result [getting Harry re-elected isn´t a "productive result" in my mind]; and b. the Dems would still have a problem to raise campaign money on, and bash Republicans with.

Barack Obama swooped into the Crimea crisis today in a desperate bid to rescue the region from all-out war as advancing Russian troops strong-armed Ukraine to order its remaining soldiers home. Making a dramatic entrance, The U.S. President touched down in Amsterdam in a military helicopter, flanked by a squadron of battle-green gunships, to press Europe´s leaders to further punish Russia for annexing the peninsular, including the possible exclusion of Moscow from the G8 club of rich nations. Heavily-armed Russian forces used stun grenades and machine guns to storm the last military base to fly the Ukrainian flag last night,

U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama kept up her charm offensive in China by visiting the site of the terracotta warriors--but briefly talked about politics calling on the Chinese government to open up the internet to all of its citizens. The First Lady, along with daughters Sasha 12, and Malia 15, watched a folk dance by local performers during her visit to the City Wall, in Xi´an, Shaanxi province and later joined in by dancing and skipping rope, much to the delight of her Chinese hosts. Malaysia´s prime minister has announced that missing flight MH370 crashed in the southern Indian Ocean. Najib Razak said this was the conclusion of fresh analysis of satellite data tracking the flight. Malaysia Airlines had told the families of the 239 people on board, he said. Earlier the BBC saw a text message sent to families by the airline saying it had to be assumed "beyond reasonable doubt" that the plane was lost and there were no survivors. The National Security Agency began targeting Huawei in early 2009 and quickly succeeded in gaining access to the company´s client lists and email archive, German weekly Der Spiegel reported, citing secret U.S. intelligence documents leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. The New York Times also published a report Saturday about the documents.

Today, especially with the processing power of modern computing and enormous "big data" analysis, algorithms increasingly influence the media we read, the products we buy, and with whom we socialise. But most of us have no idea what they are. At its core, an algorithm is just a simple formula which must be followed
