Leeville: A look at the real
world beyond the levees

USA Today, by Rick Jervis

Original Article

LEEVILLE, La. – At the 85th Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, an independent Louisiana-shot film, Beasts of the Southern Wild will be up for four Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, for its fictional account of a desolate band of folks living beyond the levees. Nearly 2,000 miles away, this fishing community deep in the bayous of southern Louisiana is the real-life place beyond the levees, a place where residents eke out a living selling bait fish, brace for destruction each time a large storm looms and watch the Gulf of Mexico´s steady march toward their front porches.

I´m just wondering how the Gulf of Mexico can be rising in Louisiana, but holding steady here on the west coast of Florida? Is the earth tilting so the water runs towards LA? Or could it be that the land is just washing away, and they think the sea is rising? Or mabe the land is sinking? Oh, yeah. I forgot! Global warming. It only affects things locally. Hell, if you are 50 feet away, it could be warm where you are and freezing cold over there.

#1, I know, it´s just bizarre that a heavily engineered river delta would have portions that are losing elevation. Global warming, is there anything it can´t do?

The land south of Lake Pontchartrain was created by the Mississippi River. Like all deltas, it is a slow process of ebb and flow between the forces of the river and the forces of the ocean.
The problems began when the levees were built all the way down to the tip of the boot of Louisiana and the river now empties into the deep waters of the Gulf.
The mouth of the river is constantly dredged, but the sand is flushed out to sea. There is an effort to have the Corp of Engineers to pump the sand into the marsh, but "policy" will not allow this.
What is working is "siphons" that allow river flow in high river conditions to be converted to the marsh.

Get a Louisiana map. Put your finger on Alexandria and sweep and arc from the mouth of the Sabine River in the west to Mobile Bay in the east everything is deposited mud and silts from the Calcasieu, Atchfalaya and Mississippi rivers.

The Atchfalaya is the ancient course of the Mississippi. For years the Mississippi has been trying to re-route itself down the Atchfalaya. If you look at the confluence of the Red River, Atchfalaya and Mississippi your will find a very large concrete dam holding back the Mississippi from leaving it´s current course.

Another Marxist agenda movie.... supporting the theft of land by gov´t. Cuomo is trying to buy up all NJ / NY coastline property for use as parks... Obama is declaring millions of acres as Nat´l Monuments where humans are not allowed.

Take a peek at Utopian map drawn up by the NWO crowd; Humans are only allowed in densely populated cities.

A FedEx truck crossed a freeway and slammed head-on into a bus carrying students in Northern California, killing 10 people, authorities said Friday. The collision Thursday evening killed both drivers, five students and three chaperones, said Lt. Bill Carpenter with the California Highway Patrol. At least 34 people were taken to local hospitals, authorities said. The bus was taking students from various Los Angeles-area schools to visit Humboldt State University in Arcata. The collision occurred in Orland, about 100 miles north of Sacramento. In a statement, the university said it got word of the crash but was working to find out more details. "Our thoughts

Give this retching, crying, sniveling, vomiting degenerate an Academy Award! I don’t know how much more I can take of Oscar Pistorius’ rubbish. A prosecutor on Wednesday ordered the athlete known as the “Blade Runner’’ for the carbon-fiber blades that replace his lower legs — which he’s not afraid to use as props to score pity — to “take responsibility’’ for slaughtering his beautiful girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine’s Day, 2013. He told Pistorius, 27, to look at a picture of the blood- and human-tissue-covered head of the model and TV personality, who died, like a caged animal, at age 29 inside

Rolling Stone’s Constitution cover is in need of an amendment. The cover of the storied rock magazine’s latest issue features a naked Julia Louis-Dreyfus with a faulty U.S. Constitution inked on her back. Just above her derriere sits the signature of one of the nation’s most prominent Founding Fathers, John Hancock. There’s only one problem, however: John Hancock didn’t sign the U.S. Constitution. Hancock, president of the Second Continental Congress, actually signed the Declaration of Independence. His autograph on that document is so stylish and large, in fact, that it inspired the use of his full name as a synonym for

RICHGROVE, Calif. — In March 2013, a man with brooding, mahogany eyes and a walrus mustache traveled from his home in California to visit relatives in Alabama. The trip did not end well. When a business acquaintance insulted Jose Manuel Martinez´s daughter, Martinez put two bullets in the man´s head, officials said. It was a matter "of family honor," Errek Jett, an Alabama prosecutor, said Wednesday. But it was not, it turned out, the first time he had killed — far from it, authorities believe. Martinez, 51, was charged Tuesday with killing nine men mostly in California´s Central Valley, part of a

A Southern California city declared the factory that produces Sriracha hot sauce a public nuisance Wednesday night, and gave its operators 90 days to make changes that stop the spicy odors that have prompted complaints from some residents. The Irwindale City Council´s action allows city officials to enter the factory and order changes if the odors persist after the 90-day deadline. The measure passed by a unanimous 4-0 vote. The decision came despite testimony by air-quality experts that progress was being made toward a resolution. The hard questions are why. Why would you want to do this and what can you offer that could make a difference.” Clinton has said she is thinking

Despite the Obama administration´s insistence that everyone -- the government, insurance companies, doctors, medical providers, and consumers -- will reap benefits from Obamacare, a recent grant proposal by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) suggests that the agency does have concerns about the ongoing financial viability of one player in the health care market: so-called family planning centers. HHS intends to spend up to $800,000 to fund studies to "conduct data analysis and related research and evaluation on the impact of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on Title X funded family planning centers." A new review is questioning the effectiveness of two key drugs enlisted in the fight against influenza and in turn the investments by governments to stockpile the drugs in the event of a global flu outbreak. The antiviral drugs Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir ) are commonly used to treat influenza in healthy adults and children. In the case of Tamiflu, the drug does shorten symptoms of influenza by about half a day - as the manufacturer suggests - but there is insufficient evidence to support claims that it reduces hospital admissions or serious complications, such as confirmed pneumonia or

Solar power has won the global argument. Photovoltaic energy is already so cheap that it competes with oil, diesel and liquefied natural gas in much of Asia without subsidies. Roughly 29pc of electricity capacity added in America last year came from solar, rising to 100pc even in Massachusetts and Vermont.[Snip] The technology is improving so fast--helped by the US military--that it has achieved a virtous circle.
