Republicans May Have Found A
Brilliant Way To Win The Sequester

Business Insider, by Grace Wyler

Original Article

Posted By:Pluperfect, 2/23/2013 5:46:25 AM

Senate aides confirmed Friday that Republicans are coalescing around an alternative to the sequester that would keep the lower spending levels in place, but give federal agencies greater flexibility to determine where the cuts are implemented. The exact details of the Republican proposals are unclear. A GOP Senate aide told Business Insider that Republicans are considering a plan that would fund the government at the levels dictated by the sequestration — which amounts to about $85 billion in spending cuts for fiscal year 2013 — while giving the Obama administration the flexibility to reprogram the cuts at their discretion,

Comments:
Krauthammer has been talking this idea up for weeks. A win/win.

Cuts at Barry´s discretion? My prediction is that the entire cut will come out of the military.

If you read the article, the cuts must retain the balance, but can be distributed differently.

I´m not prepared in the least to allow Obama ´flexibility´ in this anymore than I am comforted by his unilateral reduction in our nuclear defense capabilities. MacDaddy has too much power now to decide who wins and who loses as he doles what would just be more of his ´stash´.

My congressman is the Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee between the House and the Senate. He advises that the President already has that power but denies it. They are ready to formalize it by Bill on an hour´s notice.

I think that the truth is that the White House doesn´t want to effect the baseline for future budgets.

This is the foolish idea that if Barry makes the decision he will get the blame. If they give Barry this decision he will cut from all the most critical places to make the pain immediate and widely experienced by the whole population and the blame will be on the republicans. These cuts are not even real cuts but only lower increases than the left wants and they could be made without anyone noticing but that is not what Barry will do. He is in permanent campaign mode.

Amazing. Does anyone else see the absurdity of this? The Republican Establishment is trying to pass off the responsibility for cutting spending. Forget that in reality its not cutting a thing, but think of the stupidity of the message it conveys.

The very people who campaign and claim to be all about lowering the growth of government and its spending are now trying to hide behind the skirt of the president when they get the chance to pretend to do so.

I don´t think it possible that a better example of why the Republican Party is imploding can be found.

These cuts in the rate of growth are so miniscule it´s all just kabuki theater which, given the hysterical reactions of the press, is a game Republicans need to play.

Fine, let Teleprompter Jesus choose what to cut.

I agree with a previous post. We do not need to give President Obama any more flexibility. Congress needs to grow a spine use the budgetary powers that the Constitution gives them.

Barry Soetoro is an evil, vindictive child. If given discretion, he will cut funding in the way that hurts America first. He would happily throw grandma off the cliff and give support to NPR and the NEA to keep the propaganda flowing.

This is all kabuki for the lo-fo voter.
All agencies and branches of the government already have the ability to manage where they make the sequestration cuts without massive furloughing of employees, shutdown of programs, etc. Very simply, they can defer filling employment vacancies and the award of new contracts.
But Obama and Pals want to inflict the maximum pain on the American public in order to blame the Repubs. And so, they will abrogate the proper administration of their offices and seek highly visible, highly contentious cuts.
This bill has ZERO CHANCE of passing through the Senate.
But the Repubs can always claim that sequestration was Obama´s idea, and they passed a bill to allow intelligent decisions to made on where/how to apply those cuts, but the Dems killed the bill.
The Repubs then get to say that the reason that flights are being delayed because of TSA security cut backs, or 400,000 civilian DOD employees got notices of potential furloughs, or why the USS Truman didn´t deploy IS BECAUSE THE DEMOCRATS INTENTIONALLY MADE THAT CHOICE FOR POLITICAL GAMESMANSHIP.

1. This admin has still refused to publish a budget

2. Overall spending this year will be MORE than last year.

3. All these "cuts" are simply reductions in proposed increases.

4. Let´s keep our eye on the ball, and not be distracted with false premises.

The Gang of Eight — four Democratic and four Republican U.S. senators — have been meeting behind closed doors since January to produce “comprehensive immigration reform.” That will mean a multi-thousand-page bill that no one reads. You know the saying “fool me twice.” Americans got bamboozled in 2010, when the 2,572 page Obama health law was rushed through Congress unread. The surprises buried in that law are causing havoc. Let’s not repeat the mistake of “comprehensive” reform. Congress needs to fix immigration one step at a time, passing individual bills in plain English on border security, hiring, access to benefits

WASHINGTON—Senate Democrats are expected to defeat on Thursday a Republican effort to block gun-control legislation, paving the way for the full chamber to take up the issue for the first time since the December shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. A bipartisan group of negotiators working on expanding background checks for gun buyers also appeared poised to announce a deal at a joint news conference Wednesday. An aide close to the talks said Tuesday night that they were working out legislative language. Democrats appeared to have the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster and bring the gun bill

Spellman claimed in a tweet that if Winter, who faces a subpoena and potential contempt of court charges for protecting her sources, worked for the New York Times instead of Fox News, the case would be garnering far greater exposure. “Observation: If @janawinter, who may go to jail to protect sources, worked for @nytimes instead of @FoxNews the case would be huge,” Spellman tweeted Sunday night.

Obama will release his budget this week, and we already know that he´s going to try to stake out a treacherous "middleground" as he attempts to cast himself as a bold centrist, willing to stand apart from leftist Democrats. He´ll do so by, reportedly, introducing a Chained CPI, which is a way of cutting Social Security by using a different inflation measure that won´t rise as much. Liberals are already livid. While politicians talk about expanding background checks for gun owners, I’m starting to think that what we really need are IQ tests for political officeholders. The only problem is, that might leave us with a lot of vacancies in Congress and America’s statehouses. The debacle over New York’s rushed-through gun bill is one example of what happens when enthusiasm meets stupid. But another is to be found in Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), who supports a ban on full-capacity magazines without understanding what a magazine actually is. Last week, DeGette justified her position this way: “I will tell you these are ammunition,

Secretary of State John Kerry is worth some $200 million, give or take a yacht. So his decision to slap a 5% pay cut on himself in solidarity with government employees squeezed by sequestration won’t likely hurt him much. But he’s saving taxpayers another way, too — if unintentionally. And it’s downright troubling. How else is Kerry saving money? He’s failing to hire folks to fill key spots at his agency. Terrific. Think about it: With the North Koreans threatening nuclear strikes against America — and Kerry himself preparing to visit South Korea this week — wouldn’t it be a tad helpful
