Scientists believe Thousands of
people have been exposed to a
deadly outbreak of tuberculosis
in downtown Los Angeles

Daily Mail [UK], by Staff

Public health officials are searching for more than 4,500 people who they believe have been exposed to a deadly outbreak of tuberculosis in Los Angeles, as part of a huge effort to contain the disease. Scientists from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are in downtown Los Angeles to help officials determine why the disease is spreading and to stop it in its tracks. Eleven people have died from the disease since 2007, and a total of 78 cases have been noted. Of these, 60 were homeless people living in an area known as skid row. Scientists believe the strain is unique to the area

Comments:
Ahh yes, the joys of illegal immigrants. s/o I don´t remember hearing anything about mandatory health screenings in all the yapping about comprehensive immigration reform. No one ever dares to mention the outbreak of diseases in this country because of them.

"Why the disease is spreading?" Let me guess. And it isn´t necessarily Hispanics. Try Pakistanis and (subcontinent) Indians. Pakistan is #5 in the world for TB and 61% of the Eastern Mediterranean. India accounts for 20% of global TB.

If you want to see just how stupid the U.S. Supreme Court can be, google Arline v. Nassau County (Florida) 1987.
The decision was the final one and the dumbest one written by associate justice brennan.
Arline was an elementary teacher with recurring TB. Brennan essentially put her back to work. (He remanded, but the effect was return to work.)
It was absolutely insane to put the job rights of Arline over the group health rights of the chillun in her class. But Brennan did exactly that.

Three years after the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry -- a tragedy which exposed and ultimately ended Operation Fast and Furious -- the public is finally getting a glimpse into Terry´s final moments. Federal court records released Tuesday provide the first official account of the firefight along the Arizona-Mexico border that killed Terry in December 2010. Among other details, they reveal two of four federal agents at the scene that day actually fired bean bags -- not bullets -- at a violent drug gang carrying assault rifles. Weapons from the botched anti-gun trafficking program were found at Terry´s

Top EPA managers were aware as early as 2011 about serious problems with a high-ranking official who would later be sentenced to prison for defrauding the agency, but did not crack down for more than two years, newly released documents show. The documents were released by Sen. David Vitter, R-La., who has accused EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy of looking the other way when fraudster John Beale was collecting improper payments. At the time, McCarthy was Beale´s boss at the Office of Air and Radiation. Beale was sentenced in December to 32 months in prison for bilking taxpayers of nearly $1

Coming from a big family, I used those older than me as sounding boards and the verdict was in: my older female cousins were originally unimpressed by the Fab Four, preferring instead to continue to imitate the dance steps and hairstyles of girl groups

Ruth Marcus of the Washington Post is the latest to defend President Barack Obama´s use--past, present, and future--of executive orders to circumvent Congress. She argues that his "push-the-envelope moves" are "within the bounds of the modern presidency." Marcus is not alone here: others have pointed out that Obama has used fewer executive orders than his predecessors, forgetting that constitutionality is what matters, not quantity. Complaints about executive orders, Marcus suggests, are just "politics dressed up in constitutional clothing, to be put on and off depending on which party holds the White House." I can say with confidence, as someone who

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) is resurrecting a controversial rule that would speed up union elections. The proposed regulation mirrors a proposal that was struck down in court in 2012, and would provide organizers with the email addresses and phone numbers of workers after a union election petition is filed. It would also consolidate appeals of union votes into a single post-election process and allow for electronic filing of union petitions, among other changes. The regulation is certain to draw forceful opposition from business groups and Republican lawmakers, who say the rule is evidence of how the NLRB has

The Congressional Budget Office estimated on Tuesday that the Affordable Care Act will reduce the number of full-time workers by 2.5 million over the next decade. That is mostly a good thing, a liberating result of the law. Of course, Republicans immediately tried to brand the findings as “devastating” and stark evidence of President Obama’s health care reform as a failure and a job killer. It is no such thing. The Affordable Care Act, aka ObamaCare, became law almost four years ago. It became operational last Oct. 1. Yesterday, Feb. 4, 2014, the ACA may well have been dealt its death blow. The Congressional Budget Office released a major study of the government’s budget and its effect on the overall economy over the next 10 years. In dull bureaucratic language, it delivers a devastating analysis of the inefficiencies, ineffectualities and problematic social costs of ObamaCare. The one-two punch: Virtually as many Americans will lack health coverage in 10 years as before the law was passed — but 2 million fewer
