ObamaCare and the ´29ers´
Wall Street Journal, by Staff

Original Article

Here´s a trend you´ll be reading more about: part-time "job sharing," not only within firms but across different businesses. It´s already happening across the country at fast-food restaurants, as employers try to avoid being punished by the Affordable Care Act. In some cases we´ve heard about, a local McDonalds has hired employees to operate the cash register or flip burgers for 20 hours a week and then the workers head to the nearby Burger KingBKW +2.39% or Wendy´s to log another 20 hours. Other employees take the opposite shifts.

I read these articles day after day and it seems like I´m watching this country fall in a Hell hole one brick at a time. I haven´t seen any good news for over four years.

The vast majority of the people who will hold down two 29 hour jobs to make a living will still vote for the liberal Democrats. That´s why a lot of them are stuck in those jobs.

In 2008 I retired from selling homes. Prior to that, I realized young couples both working were earning approx $250k between them, as medical sales reps or similar jobs. I remember thinking that earnings potential was raising so high, socialist must be going bonkers.

Well... they´ve gone bonkers. Crushing earning potential so we all are poor folks seems the goal.

Leading Republicans Move to
Stamp Out Challenges From Right
New York Times, by Carl Hulse    Original Article

WASHINGTON — As conservative activist groups stirred up trouble for establishment Republican Senate candidates in 2010 and 2012, party leaders in Washington first tried to ignore the insurgents, then tried to reason with them, and ultimately left it to primary voters to settle the matter. But after several of those conservatives — in Nevada, Colorado and Delaware in 2010 and in Indiana and Missouri in 2012 — managed to win their primaries but lose in the general election, party leaders felt stung by what they saw as avoidable defeats. This election season, Republicans led by Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky are taking

Sarah Palin gave the keynote speech that ended the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) and didn´t disappoint her fans. She railed against Obama and the Democrats. She praised Ted Cruz, coming near an endorsement for his presidential candidacy. But she left some of her biggest bombs for GOP establishment politicians who she accused of joining "the lapdogs in the lame-stream to trash the foot soldiers who fought for America.” The Hill: Last year something did happen. The awaking began and Sen. Ted Cruz helped keep them awake. His filibuster, it worked in waking people up to the folly of a government takeover over another

Sarah Palin’s speech closing the 2014 Conservative Political Action Conference was enjoyable in large part because there was so little at stake. Having resigned an executive office midway through her term, the former governor of Alaska is well and truly retired from retail politics — a status reflected in the CPAC straw poll [pdf], in which Palin garnered only 2 percent of the vote. Among presidential hopefuls and prospects, the straw poll delivered wins for Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, who took first place with 31 percent, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, who placed with 11 percent; and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, a

The theme of Michael Tanner at the National Review is that the Tea Party has become unpopular because it’s against gay marriage and illegal alien amnesty. Yet it’s also true that the Tea Party’s clout is waning. According to the most recent Gallup poll, just 30 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of the movement, the lowest level in its history. While this may technically be the lowest level, the Tea Party spent most of its time with a favorable rating in the 30s. In 2011, the Tea Party had a favorability rating of 33 percent. An air search for the Malaysian Airlines plane that vanished off the coast of Vietnam has been called off until daylight as it emerged two passengers were travelling using stolen passports. Two oil slicks were spotted by the Vietnamese air force earlier today, as the major search and rescue operation was launched when Flight MH307 disappeared shortly after losing contact with air traffic controllers. The Boeing 777, with 227 passengers and 12 crew members on board, took off from Kuala Lumpur at 12.21am (4.21pm GMT) bound for Beijing, where it was expected to land at 6.30am (10.30pm GMT). MILAN — Foreign ministry officials in Rome and Vienna confirm that names of two nationals listed on the manifest of the missing Malaysian airlines flight match passports reported stolen in Thailand. Italy´s Foreign Ministry said Saturday that an Italian man whose name was listed as being aboard is traveling in Thailand and was not aboard the plane. A foreign ministry functionary, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed Italian reports that Luigi Maraldi had reported his passport stolen last August. Italian news agency ANSA says Maraldi called home after hearing reports that an Italian with his name was aboard the plane.

A New Report Shows How Young Liberals

New York Magazine, by Jonathan Chait    Original Article

One of the most seismic changes in American politics over the last decade has been the emergence of a sharp generational split among the electorate. The Democratic Party owes its success in the last two presidential elections almost entirely to overwhelming support among the very young, which has overcome continued conservatism among older voters. The Pew Research Institute has dominated the field of exploring the ideological cleavages among different generations. And its latest survey shows again how the liberalism of the youngest voting cohort, millennials, remains firm, and likely to continue to recast the electorate. A few charts from the survey

If 2016 brings another Bush-Clinton matchup, not all famous last names are equal at the start. The latest ABC News/Washington Post poll makes clear why it’s better to be associated with the 42nd president than the 43rd and 41st, at least for now. The poll has plenty of good news for Hillary Rodham Clinton. Two-thirds of Americans say they’d consider voting for Clinton in 2016, and a full 25 percent say they will definitely support her. Again, among all Americans – not just Democrats, or Democrats and independents – one in four say they are fully on board for Hillary Clinton right

As Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) sprang onto the main stage of the Gaylord Resort in Maryland, the venue for CPAC 2014, the potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate quickly offered a warning to the thousands in attendance. “God Bless CPAC,” he stated. “Now I do have to start with a bit of bad news. During his speech to the CPAC crowd on Thursday, Sen. McCain said he spoke to Cruz about the comments and it was “cordial” but he took specific offense at the remarks concerning Dole. “He can say what he wants to about me and he can say anything he wants to about Mitt,” McCain said,

Via Matt Lewis, here’s Maverick once again demonstrating that “cordial relationship” in politico-speak means “two people who can’t publicly admit to hating each other but obviously do.” And it’s a cheap shot. Cruz’s point yesterday at CPAC was that Dole, McCain, and Romney lost because they weren’t conservative enough. That’s not because they’re gutless — he said specifically that they were “good” and “decent” men — but because they’re not committed, full-throated ideologues, even less so when they’re fighting for purple states in a national election. We can debate whether that’s true but there’s nothing offensive in raising the subject.

What’s been said of confession — that it is good for one’s soul but bad for one’s reputation — can also be true of testifying to Congress, so Lois Lerner has chosen to stay silent. Hers, however, is an eloquent silence. The most intrusive and potentially most punitive federal agency has been politicized; the IRS has become an appendage of Barack Obama’s party. Furthermore, congruent with exhortations from some congressional Democrats, it is intensifying its efforts to suffocate groups critical of progressives, by delaying what once was the swift, routine granting of tax-exempt status. So, the IRS, far from repenting

Barack Obama´s parents were "married in name only," according to David Maraniss´s 2012 Barack Obama: The Story. But since definitions of an "in name only" marriage vary, such as "a marriage of convenience" or "a sexless marriage," and Maraniss failed to explain his claim, it is unclear what he was implying. Therefore, Obama´s oft-told nativity story must be searched for the full implications of Obama´s parents´ "in name only" marriage. KINGSTON - More than 150 years after European colonial powers abolished slavery, a coalition of Caribbean nations is considering legal action to seek a formal apology and monetary compensation. Caribbean leaders meeting next week in St. Vincent are expected to study a broad legal outline for the reparations claim prepared by a British law firm. The subject of reparations has simmered in the Caribbean for many years and opinions are divided. Some see reparations as delayed justice, while others see it as an empty claim and a distraction from modern social problems in Caribbean societies. Slavery ended throughout the Caribbean

The Boeing 777-200ER flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing had been missing for hours when Vietnam´s Tuoi Tre news quoted Admiral Ngo Van Phat as saying he had asked boats from an island off south Vietnam to rush to the crash site. If the report is confirmed, it would mark the U.S.-built airliner´s deadliest crash since entering service 19 years ago. Malaysia Airlines had yet to confirm that the aircraft had crashed.
