Texas bans shooting
immigrants from helicopters

Raw Story, by David Edwards

Officials in Texas announced on Thursday that State Troopers would no longer be allowed to open fire on suspects from helicopters after the recent killing of two immigrants. While announcing the new policy, Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw insisted that the ban on aerial shootings had nothing to do with the October 2012 death of two Guatemalan immigrants, who were gunned down by troopers in helicopter while they were hiding in the back of a speeding pickup truck near La Joya. “I’m convinced that now, from a helicopter platform, that we shouldn’t shoot unless being shot at,

The 50 cal. really rattles the chopper skid mounts but it´s worth it when you see the astonished faces of those drug runners !

I agree that land mines are cruel and should be avoided except in hi-bypass areas like all of Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.

Once we have 100% control of our southern border then we can have a nice long talk about those who didn´t get home in time and how we will prosecute them.

Enforce the law or change the law.

I´m good either way.

Okay; settle down. This is a change in rule to Texas Dept of Public Safety´s use of force in "hot" pursuit. Previously, shooting from the helicopter to stop a fleeing auto was allowed.

However, someone missed and killed 2 guys in the bed of a pickup truck.

Hence the rule change. Personally, I think they just needed more practice. But that´s difficult to do.....

Documents released by Wikileaks show Catholic Church dismissed criticism of Chile’s military dictatorship as ‘communist propaganda.´ The Catholic Church originally labeled accusations of human rights abuses by the military junta in Chile as “leftist lies,” only revising their stance later as widespread governmental violence became undeniable. Among the hundreds of documents from the U.S. State Department released by Wikileaks on Monday was a cable sent to then-Secretary of State Henry Kissinger from his counterpart at the Vatican, Archbishop Giovanni Benelli.

Margaret Thatcher and Queen

A wide variety of experienced politicians, civil servants and courtiers who observed at first hand the Queen’s relationship with Margaret Thatcher agree: it was (long pause, pained expression) “difficult.” Here were two women of similar age but very dissimilar backgrounds; previously strangers, they were conjoined during the most tumultuous and confrontational years of postwar politics. Among the most radical of the Thatcherite thinkers were some whose contempt for the old, flabby institutions of a weary, oversocialized country reached even to the monarchy. They (naively) tended to see the United States as a model in politics and economics,

ONLY a handful of peace-time politicians can claim to have changed the world. Margaret Thatcher, who died this morning, was one. She transformed not just her own Conservative Party, but the whole of British politics. Her enthusiasm for privatisation launched a global revolution and her willingness to stand up to tyranny helped to bring an end to the Soviet Union. Winston Churchill won a war, but he never created an “ism”. The essence of Thatcherism was to oppose the status quo and bet on freedom—odd, since as a prim control freak, she was in some ways the embodiment of conservatism.

The first woman to lead a major Western power, Thatcher held office for 11 years, making her the country´s longest-serving prime minister of the 20th century. A large part of Thatcher’s legacy was her role in the Falklands War,

MOBILE, Ala. — The crippled cruise ship whose sewage-filled breakdown in the Gulf of Mexico subjected thousands to horrendous conditions tore loose Wednesday from the dock where it´s being repaired, lumbered downriver and crunched into a cargo ship. Wind gusts near hurricane strength shoved the 900-foot Carnival Triumph free from its mooring in downtown Mobile, Ala., where the ship was brought in a five-day ordeal that began when an engine fire stranded it off of Mexico in February. Hours later, four tug boats were using several mooring lines to secure the ship to a nearby pier.
