Spanish-language behemoth
Univisión bests NBC in
hunt for sweeps ratings as
struggling ´Peacock Network´
hits bottom for first time ever

New York Daily News, by Gina Salomone

NBC is set to finish fifth for the first time ever in one of television’s all-important sweeps months — bested even by Spanish-language Univisión. It’s a dramatic drop for the network, which came out on top both in last February’s sweeps and in the last round of ratings wars in November. But without its fall anchors, “Sunday Night Football” and “The Voice,” NBC was left with new shows that flopped — “1600 Penn,” “Do No Harm” and a much-promoted new season of “Smash” that has so far failed to click with viewers.

On the one hand, people don´t watch Tv stations they watch Tv shows, so the NBC brand shouldn´t really be a factor. On the other hand, to the extent that brand plays a factor, they´ve probably done damage to their brand with a healthy percentage of the population due to their biased news division. I know I fly be them as fast as I can when surfing.

Of course sucky shows don´t help. Haven´t watched so couldn´t tell ya. I guess 1600 Penn is some sort of whitehouse sitcom? Can´t wait to miss that again.

They better start forcing Univision to feature shows with fun homosexuals before its too late. They also better make Government school force all the kids to watch NBC´s "The New Normal".

#1, David Axelrod already is on the funniest show on television....Morning Joe.

How many regular Americans are refusing to watch any NBC shows? They spend the entirety of 2012 openly calling half of America racist. But no article I have seen has mentioned that this might be a factor.

And let us not forget that Brian Williams is THE decision maker as to what goes into (or is ignored by) NBC Nightly News and that Rock show they are trying to save. NBC is the network that totally ignored the U.S. gun running on the border and death of our agent, and when indictments came (and what every happened there?) had to scramble to explain what was going on as they had never mentioned Troopergate. I suspect what has happened with NBC is that loyal viewers just don´t trust the Net anymore and are not turning it on, whereas Univision still has viewers who believe in it. We constantly hear that Chrissie Matthews is an embarrassment, but Williams is actually more so, as he is not a newsman but plays one on t.v.

I don´t watch any of the networks at all. The one exception is "Bluebloods" on CBS. And thats only because the openly conservative Tom Selek is the star and its the one entertainment program that isn´t a disguised liberal agenda program. Other than that, I get my unbiased news from FOX and FOX Business with an occasional trip to C-SPAN. There is infinitely more entertaining shows on the various cable stations, so I don´t have to watch or listen to progressive brainwashing and dumbing down of the population. NBC deserves what it is getting. God knows it has worked hard to attain it. I only hope that ABC and CBS follow suit.

Ratings collapse at NBC is legacy of the character George on this net´s last hit, Seinfeld. During Jerry and George´s interview with NBC executives on proposed pilot, George pitched his "show about nothing". When asked by faux NBC president why anyone would watch such a show, George responded, "Because it´s on TV!"

Like the consistent loser, George Costanza, NBC proceeded to produce a lot of shows about nothing. Perhaps NBC can sign Hillary for a dramatic series, State of Affairs. Or, Hillary, Obama, John Brennan and Susan Rice for Benghazi!, an action series about a special WH team that produces fake cover stories to hide failures. Or, Drone, where audience would watch 1 hour shows of Obama´s speeches.

I watched about 15 minutes of 1600 Penn and as usual it had smart mouth kids delivering lines only a 20 year old could come up with, the usual angry disrespectful teenager and an older son who´s role was that of a brain dead misfit. Their parents don´t deserve to run a truck stop much less a country. Actually same kids that show up in most sitcoms-no wonder no one watches.

There has been a quiet boycott of this network and to some extent, all three of the regular networks. Like people voting with their feet, we have been voting with our remotes. So many of the sitcoms these days are insulting to ones intelligence. They make dad look stupid and he is often disrespected. I often wonder if that´s the way they see the lives of "the regular people". There are way too many other options out there these days for them to be offering the garbage they offer and expect us not to change the channel. When you doctor the news to fit your narrative, why are you surprised when we don´t watch the network as a whole?

This week millions of the religious faithful in America are to be shepherded into the nation´s cinemas in order to watch ´Son of God´, a conventional Hollywood biopic of Jesus Christ that premieres on Thursday. Coming after last year´s HBO mini-series ´The Bible´, which garnered 95 million viewers, it would seem a fair bet that this film is pretty much guaranteed to be another hit. One Texas congregation alone has bought 9,000 tickets. But such displays of mega-church muscle only serve to conceal how far and how fast the ground has shifted under America´s Religious Right over the last decade

Are we obsessed with race and racism in our society? Before you answer the question, consider how issues of race are brought up in the media and discussed around the proverbial water cooler. Do we discuss the remarkable progress we’ve made as a country since the dark days of segregation and Jim Crow? Do we consider how blacks lived in the South in the not too distant past—like my grandparents, who ran the risk of being lynched for looking at someone white?
