| Kids today are consuming fewer calories than they were a decade ago, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Between 1999 and 2010, children´s average energy intake dropped from 2,258 calories per day to 2,100 calories per day for boys; and from 1,831 calories per day to 1,755 calories per day for girls.(Snip) between 2007 and 2010, childhood obesity levels stabilized, and did not increase as they had in previous years. The drop in children´s energy intake may have contributed to the leveling off of obesity levels, Ervin said.

Hard to eat and play video games at the same time. The more time children sit mesmerized by
electronic games, the less they eat, because many of these games use a controller that requires both hands. Unless someone spoon feeds them, they just don´t have the time or inclination to eat.

Well, the previous posters have covered it. I would just add that the very act of keeping a record of the children´s eating causes them to be somewhat more careful. It´s a bias caused by observation. It doesn´t mean the general population is eating less calorie. If they are, it is almost certainly because they are broke.

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has permanently revoked the federal firearms license of East Windsor, Conn., gun store owner David LaGuercia, whose shop reportedly sold guns used in the Newtown school massacre and a second Connecticut mass shooting. ATF spokeswoman Deb Seifert told The Journal News on Thursday that she could not be more specific on the reasons LaGuercia’s license was revoked. An autopsy on Shain Gandee, a cast member of the MTV reality show Buckwild, showed he died of carbon monoxide poisoning, the Kanawha County sheriff’s department said yesterday. The deaths of Gandee, 21, his uncle David Gandee, 48, and friend Donald Robert Myers, 27, on Monday morning were ruled accidental after coroners completed the autopsies.(Snip) The truck was found after the MTV star was reported missing by family members after a late-night session in a local bar.

Spain´s Princess Cristina has been summoned to appear in court over allegations that her husband misused millions of euros of public money. It is reported to be the first court summons for a direct descendant of the Spanish king. She is King Juan Carlos´s youngest daughter. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”
