| Atlanta — For those 65 and older, this season´s flu shot is only 9 percent effective against the most common and dangerous flu bug, according to a startling new government report. Flu vaccine tends to protect younger people better than older ones and never works as well as other kinds of vaccines. But experts say the preliminary results for seniors are disappointing and highlight the need for a better vaccine. For all age groups, the vaccine´s effectiveness is moderate at 56 percent, which is nearly as well as other flu seasons, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday.

My mother (90) and my father (91) both got the shot and both got the flu. She ended up with pneumonia, and he recovered in 3 days.

They told me I was stupid not to get this since I was pregnant. So I got the shot.
I have never been so sick in my life. I was almost hospitalized and wound up with borderline pnemonia.
"But I got the SHOT!" Kept going through my head.
Never again.
I was sick from the day after Thanksgiving until the end of January (with days 5-12 of the bug being absolutely unbearable).

I read the first sentence, and then later down the article it says:
Older people have weaker immune systems that don´t respond as well to flu shots. That´s why a high-dose version was recently made available for those 65 and older. The new study was too small to show whether that made a difference this year.
Well ... was this year´s flu shot only9% effective? Or is it they don´t know?

Follow the money on this crap. The only time I ever got one, I was so sick I was begging God to let me die. My RN sis in law said to run as fast as you can from this vaccine. It is a huge $$$$ maker for someone.

I got one. About 4 0r 5 years ago. Had a reaction (which they said I shouldn´t have unless I was allergic to eggs.
I am not allergic to eggs. I have never taken another one.

I got a flu shot about 25 years ago and it was the ONLY time I every had the flu (I worked in a Hospital and it was mandatory). I finally decided this year that I should get one since I´m now 71 and more likely to get the flu. I had absolutely no side effects. And, I didn´t get the flu. So, who knows. I thought this article was going to say that due to these findings Medicare will not PAY for seniors to get the flu shots next year. THAT wouldn´t surprise me at all!

I have gotten the flu shot twice. Both times I got the flu. I´m not talking "stomach flu" or all the other stuff people like to call the flu. I mean "hit by a truck, you couldn´t move if you wanted to, out for at least a week" influenza. That was years ago. And I haven´t bought the propaganda since. Nor do I buy into the "well you already had the virus" scenario. Once maybe. Twice no.
Now they´re pushing a new SARS virus story.
Sorry. The only virus I´m worried about is the one currently in the WH. Can I get immunization against THAT?

Two of the three seniors that I know who received the flu shot got the flu. Bad. One of them has coronary artery disease and had to be hospitalized because of the flu. No one else I know got the flu shots and none of them got the flu. Is this more junk science?

My friends and I are all seniors and got the shot. None of us got the flu.
And - we live in a busy city, use public transportation, shop in crowded stores. We are exposed to lots of people.
We´re all fine.

Here´s my take, both sides of the coin. I am past 65. Last fall my doctor told me to get the senior citizen version of the flu shot. I had never heard of it, but the pharamicist had. It is a stronger dose.That is the shot I got. My doctor got that shot last year and still got the flu. I believe I have had a very minor case of the flu this year. Everyone is different. Keep your hands clean and away from your face.

My company demanded I get the flu shot in 1993. That year my entire family got a severe strain of flu, I did not. Every year since then we have all gotten the shot and have not had the flu. How can they say "9% effective"? Did they test 100 people who had a shot and 91 of them got the flu? Yeah, right. Leave it to the AP to find ordure to print.

Ha! I´m sure that the evildoers have on stock the cures for every disease known to have ever existed in mankind but they are under lock and key. Letting them out would dry up their "income".
I am so glad that I had the good sense my entire life to never take their crap. There are so so many who wish they had never taken it, and are suffering.

Vaccines are the only consumer product for which no one other than the government has liability. The manufacturer has no liability. The distributor has no liability. The person giving you the jab has no liability. No matter if they didn´t shake the vial, didn´t refrigerate it properly, let bacteria into the production system...they have zero liability. If you are harmed by a vaccine, it is up to you to prove it in a Vaccine Court, and the deck is stacked against you.
As for the 24,000 who die each year of the flu, go research the source of that statistic. You will find that the death rate hasn´t been that high in 50 years, going back to well before the flu vaccine was invented.

We sensitives to all medications who cannot tolerate the shots vaccines and medicines seem to develop a stronger natural immunity to the bacteria and viruses than those people who just go along and accept touted not so protective measures.
We do however need to take precautions to stay away from exposure to the ailments as much as possible.
