Stock markets fall after
US Fed comments

BBC News [UK], by Staff

Global stock markets have fallen after some members of the US central bank suggested its stimulus measures may be increasing the "risks of future economic and financial imbalances". The comments came in minutes of the Federal Reserve´s last meeting, where the Fed said it had left its monthly $85bn bond-buying plan in place. US markets opened lower on Thursday after recording their biggest drop so far this year on Wednesday. [Snip] Currently, the Fed is carrying out its plan of buying $85bn of bonds a month until the US jobs market sees a substantial improvement. By buying bonds, the Fed

Our own government has collapsed the real estate market, destroyed the bond markets through artificially low interest rates, and made it so people receive a return of zero (less than zero with inflation taken into account). And now the rug is being pulled out from under the stock market, leaving nowhere safe to keep one´s money. Why, it´s as if by design.

The stock market has been living on borrowed time. When we buy 85 Billion Dollar´s worth of treasuries, what is really happening is: 0bama and company are printing 85 Billion Dollars each month out of thin air, because no one else will buy our bonds. Printing this much money makes each dollar worth a whole lot less and it makes everything cost a whole lot more. Who are these morons who think he is doing such a good job?

David Cameron Orders Urgent Probe into

David Cameron has ordered an urgent review of the activities of the Muslim Brotherhood, because of fears the group might be planning an attack on the UK. The assessment will involve The Secret Intelligence Service (nicknamed MI6), who deal with external threats and Britain´s internal intelligence service: MI5. The review will look at the "philosophy and activities" of the Muslim Brotherhood, to establish how many leaders of the group have been allowed in the country. It will also investigate whether the Brotherhood held a top level meeting in London last year. Fears of an attack have come about because members of

Vegetarians are less healthy and have a worse quality of life than meat eaters, according to a study by the University of Graz, Austria. According to the study, those who abstain from meat are "less healthy (in terms of cancer, allergies, and mental health disorders), have a lower quality of life, and also require more medical treatment." Vegetarians were twice as likely to have atopy (allergies), a 50 percent increase in cancer and a 50 percent increase in heart attacks. They also drank less alcohol. This is not the first time counter-intuitive research has shown the negative effects of consuming

A powerful earthquake measuring 8.2 on the Richter scale struck off northern Chile Tuesday night, setting off a small tsunami that forced evacuations along the country´s entire Pacific coast and much of Latin America. Chilean officials say two people died when the earthquake struck at 8.46pm local time and several others are seriously injured. While it appears the area escaped major damage and casualties, landslides blocked roads, power failed for thousands, an airport was damaged and several businesses caught fire. About 300 inmates escaped from a women´s prison in the city of Iquique, and officials said Chile´s military was sending a

Under California law, residents signing up for government services like welfare or other public assistance must also be sent a voter registration card. But a couple of lifelong Republicans were shocked this week when the state´s Obamacare registrar sent theirs with ´Democratic Party´ already checked off. Following a lawsuit from a voting-rights group, Covered California began sending out more than 4 million voter registration forms last week. But they´re supposed to be completely blank. ´It´s a waste of money because there´s an awful lot of people who are going to get this that are already registered and they don´t need

This ancient and priceless teddy bear could be the beloved childhood toy of Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun. Archaeologists unearthed a 3,000-year-old mummified teddy bear, believed to be the oldest in existence, at a tomb in Egypt. And it has led experts to believe the Ancient Egyptians not only cuddled up with the toys at night, but once worshipped their furry playthings. The landmark discovery marks the first time an Egyptian teddy bear has been discovered in perfect condition. The ancient toy was excavated in a funerary deposit in the Valley of the T’eds, near Luxor in Egypt.

Drinking Earl Grey tea could help guard against heart disease, it has emerged, after a study found that bergamot extract--a key ingredient in the hot drink--is just as effective as statins at controlling cholesterol. Scientists believe bergamot, a fragrant Mediterranean citrus fruit which gives Earl Grey tea its distinctive flavour, can significantly lower cholesterol. They say it contains enzymes known as HMGF (hydroxy methyl glutaryl flavonones) which can attack proteins in the body known to cause heart disease. The study found bergamot could even be as effective as statins, used to control cholesterol but which can have side effects in

I argued that the only way to level the playing field is to return to a more traditional approach--one of the reasons the poorest 10 percent of teenagers in Shanghai perform at the same level in international maths tests as the richest 20 percent in Britain. Obamacare, the plan purportedly created to provide health coverage for the uninsured, has enrolled just 1.7% of America´s 48.6 million uninsured. News of the disastrous numbers comes as nervous Democrats and President Barack Obama, ahead of the November midterm elections, did their best on Monday´s enrollment deadline to put a positive spin on the deeply unpopular Obamacare program. A few months back, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius stated for the record that 7 million Obamacare sign-ups by the end of March would constitute success. She was clear about it. But then February came, and February always stinks. It’s just a lousy month. You’re tired of winter, you’re still miles away from spring, and no one was signing up for Obamacare. That 7 million figure looked totally unreachable. So Sebelius does what every other member of the Obama administration does when confronted with inconvenient facts. She lied. A National Labor Relations Board official has given the green light to Northwestern University football players to form a union. Ohr rejected the longstanding view of Northwestern and the National Collegiate Athletic Association that players are "student-athletes" rather than employees. A RAND study pours buckets of cold water on the Obama administration’s claims that it has nearly reached 7 million sign-ups for Obamacare. The whole point of Obamacare, supposedly, was to insure the uninsured and bend the cost curve down. Those who had insurance were supposed to be able to keep it. Families were supposed to start saving about $2500 a year. If you believed the Obama administration. Reality, according to RAND‘s study, is that the Obama administration’s 7 million figure is deceptive. Supposing 7 million have actually signed up and paid their first premium — which is not a given,
