| A North Raleigh mother of three says Wake County schools aren’t doing enough to restrict pornographic and violent content on school computers. So this week, Carolyn Homan took her 1 1/2-year fight straight to the school board, showing members a YouTube video she made that highlights sexually explicit and violent material she said she found while using the computers at Brassfield Elementary School, where her three children attend. “Kindergarten computers have access to porn,” Homan said at Tuesday’s board meeting, as she held up photos of graphic images she said came from

I lay the blame on the ACLU and the ´progressives´ in our government and courts. There is no good reason for schools and public libraries to provide access to adult sites. And for that matter, if private companies can block adult material on their networked computers, why can´t the local, state and federal governments do the same?

An employee of Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) president Grover Norquist and a political ally of “Gang of Eight” member Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) believe groups opposed to the immigration bill pending in the U.S. Senate are "nativists," Breitbart News has learned. ATR’s Josh Culling and Hispanic Leadership Fund (HLF) president Mario Lopez will make the argument on a conference call with mainstream media reporters on Friday at 11 AM EDT. Brad Bailey of the organization called Texas Immigration Studies will join them on the call. “As the momentum behind immigration reform continues to

The Senate has rejected an amendment to the Gang of Eight bill calling for a “border security first” approach to immigration reform. A motion to table the amendment, which was authored by Republican senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa and previously defeated in the Judiciary Committee, passed 57 to 43, largely on party lines. The measure would have required the Department of Homeland Security to demonstarate effective security of the southern border for six months before illegal immigration are granted legal status. The Gang’s proposal would provide legal status before additional border security measures are measured or implemented.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc has in recent months been only hiring temporary workers at many of its U.S. stores, the first time the world´s largest retailer has done so outside of the holiday shopping season. A Reuters survey of 52 stores run by the largest U.S. private employer in the past month, including one in every U.S. state, showed that 27 were hiring only temps, 20 were hiring a combination of regular full, part-time and temp jobs, and five were not hiring at all. Democrats terrify Hispanics into thinking they’ll be lynched if they vote for Republicans, and then turn around and taunt Republicans for not winning a majority of the Hispanic vote. This line of attack has real resonance with our stupidest Republicans. (Proposed Republican primary targets: Sens. Kelly Ayotte, Jeff Flake, Lindsey Graham and Marco Rubio.) Which explains why Republicans are devoting all their energy to slightly increasing their share of the Hispanic vote while alienating everyone else in America. It must be fun for liberals to manipulate Republicans into focusing on hopeless causes

A woman who killed her newborn son in 2009 was sentenced on Monday to four years´ probation and 200 days of work-release in the Pima County jail. Denise Pesqueira pleaded guilty to negligent homicide and child abuse in the death of the baby. "At the time of my pregnancy, I was a very traumatized 19-year-old," Pesqueira said at the sentencing. Defense attorney Frederick Carrillo pleaded for leniency, telling Judge Scott Rash that Pesqueira had been sexually abused in her home, which caused her to make the decision to kill the infant.

Employees at the U.S. Department of the Interior routinely violate federal policy by approving their own travel and charging thousands of dollars in unsupported costs to the government, according to auditors. The department´s review system is so lax that supervisors sign questionable expense reports without requiring any proof for inappropriate costs, said the auditors for the Interior Inspector-General. "With more than 40 percent of statements in our sample reflecting some sort of discrepancy, this issue is both a significant internal control weakness and breakdown," the IG said.

One senator, two messages, depending on who he’s talking to. When he speaks to conservatives, Rubio is tough on border security. Linking Temporary Status To Security Triggers: No undocumented immigrant is eligible to apply for temporary status until the border security and fencing plan is in place. After being in the temporary status for at least ten years, no currently undocumented immigrant can even attain permanent residence, much less citizenship, unless the border security, employment verification and exit system triggers have been achieved. But when speaking to a Hispanic audience on Univision, Rubio sounds a completely different tone.

Go look at this post at TechCrunch rounding up reaction from Google, Facebook, Apple, etc. All of them deny giving the feds “direct access” to their servers; some of them claim never to have even heard of PRISM until WaPo’s story yesterday. “But wait,” you say, “what if they’re being slippery in their statements and they actually gave the feds indirect access to their servers?” That’s possible. Other people have noticed that loophole too. But what to make of this new statement on Google’s blog, signed by CEO Larry Page himself?

President Obama strolled out to the podium today in San Jose, CA and was immediately at a loss for words. Not only did the President not have teleprompter, his aides forgot his speech.“My remarks are not sitting here,” the President declared awkwardly. “I’m uhhh….people….oh goodness….uhhhh...folks are sweating back there right now.” President Obama, who’s often mocked for an over-reliance on scripts, shifted uncomfortably smiling for several moments buying time. An aide sprinted out with a hard copy of the speech, tripping at one point, adding to the drama.

Sen. Lindsey Graham said Thursday that he is “glad” that the National Security Agency is collecting millions of telephone records — including his own — from one of the nation’s largest telecommunications companies in an attempt to combat terrorism. Mr. Graham said that he is a Verizon customer and has no problem with the company turning over records to the government if it helps it do its job. The South Carolina Republican said that people who have done nothing wrong have nothing to worry about because the NSA is mining the phone records for people with suspected ties to terrorism.

She said: "We need women who are at the head of a boardroom, like at the head of the White House, at the head of kind of major scientific enterprises so that little girls everywhere can then think, you know what? In the midst of the eruption of near-daily scandals involving the Obama administration, let us not forget that until just a few months ago, Hillary Clinton was the most significant persona within that administration besides the president himself. Let us not also forget that notwithstanding the scandal-grenades going off all around us, Mrs. Clinton diligently plans her run for the presidency, even while several of those scandals are obviously and entirely her responsibility, exposing the State Department during her tenure as an utter sewer of corruption, cronyism, and fatal incompetence.

The ACLJ has filed suit against the IRS on behalf of 25 conservative groups, with additional groups being added in the next couple weeks, according to a spokesman.

Washington- Syria has crossed a "red line" with its use of chemical weapons, including the nerve agent sarin gas, against rebels, a move that is prompting the United States to increase the "scale and scope" of its support for the opposition, the White House said Thursday. The acknowledgment is the first time President Barack Obama´s administration has definitively said what it has long suspected -- that President Bashar al-Assad´s forces have used chemical weapons in the ongoing civil war. "The intelligence community estimates that 100 to 150 people have died from detected chemical weapons attacks in Syria

N ot long ago, conservatives like myself were thrilled to find out that Fox News, often portrayed as the mouthpiece of the conservative movement, had parted ways with former governor of Alaska (and quitter) Sarah Palin. This was truly a cause for celebration. Those of us devoted to building a conservative movement capable of winning elections had come to view the former governor as the symbol of everything, and I do mean everything, wrong with the modern conservative movement. But now, Roger Ailes has rehired her. And in so doing, Ailes has issued a painful reminder that he cares far more

Over the years, I’ve read plenty of claims that we’re witnessing a “crackup” of liberals or conservatives (or sometimes both at the same time). Normally, I react by rolling my eyes. For me, “crackup” claims are a almost always hack way of expressing unjustified triumphalism. But now I think I see a crackup. Given the scandal-a-week Obama administration, you might think that the crackup, if any, is looming on the left. But that would be to ignore the left’s tendency to march more or less in lockstep through any scandal or storm. No, the crackup I see coming is among conservatives.

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush (R) argued Wednesday that the United States should pass immigration reform because the U.S. economy needs the labor of young immigrants, and immigrants are “more fertile.” “Immigrants create far more businesses than native-born Americans,” Bush said at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to the Majority conference. “Immigrants are more fertile, and they love families, and they have more intact families, and they bring a younger population. Immigrants create an engine of economic prosperity.” Bush said immigrants are an advantage that the United States has over China, Europe and Japan, which don’t have the same

When the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”) was being debated, proponents were accused of saddling Americans with inferior and expensive health care while keeping generous coverage for themselves at taxpayer expense. To rebut that allegation and build confidence in the bill, a provision was added mandating that members of Congress – and their staff members – get there coverage through the new exchange system the bill set up. Now that the time to sign up for exchange coverage is nearing, a Democratic member, Rep. John Larson (D., Conn.), is saying that

The IRS hadn’t spoken four sentences about its targeting of conservative groups before it blamed “our line people in Cincinnati.” Those were the words of Lois Lerner on May 10, when she acknowledged the misconduct in an answer to a question planted at an American Bar Association conference. In a phone session with reporters later that day, she famously admitted that she is not good at math. It turns out that she is not good at geography, either. The locus of the IRS scandal, it has steadily emerged, is not in Cincinnati but in Washington, where lawyers and supervisors

Evidence suggests this party performed all access remotely using Attkisson’s accounts. While no malicious code was found, forensic analysis revealed an intruder had executed commands that appeared to involve search and exfiltration of data.

Though noting that his determination to take action is on the tardy side, congressional Republicans said they’re ready to work with the White House on helping Syrian civilians in the fight versus Bashar al-Assad. “Nearly two years ago, President Obama called for Syrian dictator Bashar Assad to go. A year later, the president laid down a clear red line, threatening serious consequences if Assad used or transferred chemical weapons.
