Powerful snowstorm bears down
on western United States

The leading edge of a large, powerful winter storm descended on the western United States on Wednesday, dropping snow as far south as Tucson, Arizona, and snarling evening rush-hour traffic in Denver. Snowfall sweeping the southeastern corner of Arizona blanketed the saguaro cactus-studded high desert with several inches of white stuff, leading the Professional Golfers´ Association to cancel play at a tournament near Tucson. "I don´t think I have (ever seen anything like this), to be honest," competitor Ian Poulter

Comments:
Where is Al Gore ? At one of his Mansions - one is at sea level, so he is no longer worried about rising ocean levels due to melting ice bergs ?

and Al now love Big Oil Muslim Dictators who treat women as 3rd class subjects that recently bought out his TV station ?

Now it´s our turn. East Coasters shouldn´t feel like they get all the storms. Even LA is bitterly cold. The Grapevine (the lone highway connecting So Cal to the Central Valley through the mountains) had to be shut down yesterday due to ice.

In our area they cancelled the ice storm drill because of the ice storm. That ought to tell you how things are around here.

Since when is 12 inches of snow a "huge" amount. It will snow that much in 30 minutes in the Sierras.

It´s a huge amount of snow if you´re not used to dealing with a foot of snow. A foot of it is an inconvenience to me in NE, but it can be disastrous for people whose roads, buildings, and other infrastructures aren´t constructed to handle it.

Stay safe, those of you affected. Keep off those icy roads unless necessary.

It has stopped now, but since last night we have had thunder, lightning, rain, snow and sleet. ...The Ozarks have seen it a lot worse before this current storm and temps are suppose to warm up soon, but it is still winter.

I guess Reuters changed the story. Instead of it being about the West from CA to CO and AZ, it´s all about the Plain´s states.

Ah well.

A Jewish faith organisation has received 37 reports of possible anti-Semitic harassment so far this year. Jews in Denmark are advised to avoid wearing the Star of David or the religious headpiece, the kippah, in public according to advice given out by the Israeli Embassy and Jewish faith groups. Israel’s ambassador, Arthur Avon.. We advise Israelis who travel here and want to go to the synagogue that they should only put their kippah on once they are inside.. They shouldn’t wear them on the street, even in areas that are considered safe.

Michelle Obama has admitted that she is already tired of the bangs she first sported in January. The First Lady said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: ´Bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

Sen. John McCain says he doesn´t understand the threats from some of his Republican colleagues to filibuster a bill on background checks to buy guns. "I don´t understand it," the Arizona Republican said on Sunday of the threat coming from Sen. Rand Paul,Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Mike Lee and nine other Republicans. "The purpose of the United States Senate is to debate and to vote and to let the people know where we stand.” "What are we afraid of? ... If this issue is as important as we all think it is, why not take ... it up and debate?"

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Los Angeles — Some people have had it with TV. They´ve had enough of the 100-plus channel universe. They don´t like timing their lives around network show schedules. They´re tired of $100-plus monthly bills. A growing number of them have stopped paying for cable and satellite TV service, and don´t even use an antenna to get free signals over the air. (Snip) Last month, the Nielsen Co. started labeling people in this group "Zero TV" households, because they fall outside the traditional definition of a TV home. On Friday, Sean Hannity brought Pat Smith, mother of the late Sean Smith, on his radio program. The 34-year-old information management officer was one of four Americans murdered in the Benghazi embassy attack on September 11, 2012. In the chilling interview, a distraught Ms. Smith, in tears, pleaded for answers and spoke of the efforts to silence her. Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

Susan Patton, the Princeton alumna who became famous for her letter urging Ivy League women to use their college years to find a mate, has been denounced as a traitor to feminism, to coeducation, to the university ideal. Her betrayal consists of being gauche enough to acknowledge publicly a truth that everyone who’s come up through Ivy League culture knows intuitively —

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.

Newtown killer Adam Lanza may have launched his murder spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School as an “act of revenge,” the Daily News has learned. A close friend of Lanza’s mother told The News that the troubled boy was a target of relentless bullying when he attended the Connecticut school years ago. “I think Adam felt betrayed by the school and this was his act of revenge,” said Marvin LaFontaine, a friend of Nancy Lanza’s. “Nancy told me he was being picked on at school. That they were just torturing him.”
