White House Credits ‘Let´s Move’

Childhood Obesity Trend

Today the White House credited Michelle Obama´s three-year-old “Let´s Move” initiative with halting and even reversing a thirty year trend of increasing childhood obesity, a trend that has led to what the Centers for Disease Control has called an epidemic. A press release from the Office of the First Lady announced details of a "two day nationwide tour" at the end of the month to celebrate the third anniversary of the program that promotes exercise and healthy eating habits to young people. The press release also included a short history of the program (emphasis added):

Comments:
Why would we expect anyone from this corrupt regime to tell the truth. Of course there is no data provided to support their claims.

Meanwhile, His Majesty obsessively increases the obscenely obese girth of the Nanny State, far beyond the health recommendations of any sentient economist. Of all the children I knew in my youth only one was overweight. I think it was because we were free. We could safely leave our house in summer vacation or on week ends and swim, ride our bicycles 10 or 20 miles away from home, ski in the winter, etc. A girl friend and I hiked in the woods, climbed mountains, rode our bicycles to a local lake at 7 in the morning and swam just the two of us alone in a lake with no life guard in sight nor any other swimmers. As I said, we were free.

Children now are like captives. My two teen aged granddaughters exercise on a tread mill and some other gadget that they have in the garage. People are afraid to let their kids out of the house. This is true in the poor neighborhoods also, where they are afraid their kids will be shot.

I ran into a plumber I know the other day and asked him how his kids were doing on the Wookie´ lunch plan. He said they come home crying because they´re so hungry. He said the final straw was when lunch was only 3 ravioli´s and they couldn´t have more. Now they either go home for lunch or downtown to eat. Another school district in NY is opting out of the Wookie´s program when they discovered it was costing the district $30,000 more for one school quarter. Some success.

The unemployment rate was unchanged at 6.7 percent. But a half-million Americans started looking for work last month, and most of them found jobs. But in fact the coalition behind the Senate Gang of Eight comprehensive reform bill is fragile and loosely cobbled together. How could Big Labor and the Chamber of Commerce and the tech world and Big Agriculture all unite behind one bill? Very tentatively. It wouldn´t take much to break the coalition apart. And if that happens, the effort to enact comprehensive immigration reform could blow up, not just for the moment, but for some time to come. And there are signs that is exactly what is occurring now.
