Pentagon issues furlough
notice as ‘sequester’
budget cuts loom

Washington Post, by Ernesto Londoño & Anne Gearan

The Defense Department officially notified its 800,000 civilian employees on Wednesday that they are likely to be placed on periods of unpaid leave, as the Obama administration scrambled to deal with congressionally mandated budget cuts set to kick in next week. “There is no mistaking that the rigid nature of the cuts forced upon this department, and their scale, will result in a serious erosion of readiness across the force,” Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta said to employees in a memo issued Wednesday.

The furlough days are less than their vacation days. Just take un-paid vacation then no worry about losing any readiness. Many employees have taken un-paid vacation when their companies have been in financial peril, I know that I did.

I don´t recall the Democrats or this president wringing their hands when a lot of Americans (myself included) were placed on furlough several years ago.
To the government strokers I say, go get a second job. That´s what I had to do and I sill have it to this day.

Government employees seem to feel themselves to be quite above having to do without the cutbacks the private sector has had to dealt with last 3 years. Furloughs are temporary - deal with it.

He refused to let these attacks stop his pursuit of the First Amendment. “I will continue to defy the PC police. They try to

Sarah Palin, the tea-party-darling former Alaska governor who ran for vice president in 2008, is leaving the door open for a presidential run in 2016, but mostly hawking a soon-to-premiere TV show. As the final speaker at the Conservative Political Action Conference near Washington, Palin praised conservative leaders and trashed President Barack Obama, including a political smack-fest hidden in a Dr, Seuss-style children´s rhyme. ´I do not like this, Uncle Sam. I do not like his health care scam,´ she recited in a sing-song voice. ´I do not like these dirty crooks, or how they lie and cook the books.

Palin delivered the closing remarks at this year’s conference and, in a speech that touched on topics ranging from Obamacare to the Republican establishment to Ted Cruz to the war on women, she brought the audience of approximately 11,000 to its feet repeatedly

Neurologist Ben Carson could be 2016’s sleeper presidential contender. You won’t find him in early polls, and he doesn’t make headlines for huddling with top advisers in primary states. Carson is lauded for his plainspoken yet forceful ability to speak clearly about the party’s values. The retired physician rose to prominence after delivering a controversial speech at last year’s National Prayer Breakfast, where he lambasted President Obama and his policies while standing just feet away from the president. Now, his supporters believe Carson, as a black Republican and a true political outsider, could be the one GOP candidate capable of

That´s precisely what some Americans, frustrated at what they see as onerous U.S. tax filing obligations for Americans living overseas, are doing with their citizenship. Via Matt Lewis, here’s Maverick once again demonstrating that “cordial relationship” in politico-speak means “two people who can’t publicly admit to hating each other but obviously do.” And it’s a cheap shot. Cruz’s point yesterday at CPAC was that Dole, McCain, and Romney lost because they weren’t conservative enough. That’s not because they’re gutless — he said specifically that they were “good” and “decent” men — but because they’re not committed, full-throated ideologues, even less so when they’re fighting for purple states in a national election. We can debate whether that’s true but there’s nothing offensive in raising the subject.

What’s been said of confession — that it is good for one’s soul but bad for one’s reputation — can also be true of testifying to Congress, so Lois Lerner has chosen to stay silent. Hers, however, is an eloquent silence. The most intrusive and potentially most punitive federal agency has been politicized; the IRS has become an appendage of Barack Obama’s party. Furthermore, congruent with exhortations from some congressional Democrats, it is intensifying its efforts to suffocate groups critical of progressives, by delaying what once was the swift, routine granting of tax-exempt status. So, the IRS, far from repenting

One of the most seismic changes in American politics over the last decade has been the emergence of a sharp generational split among the electorate. The Democratic Party owes its success in the last two presidential elections almost entirely to overwhelming support among the very young, which has overcome continued conservatism among older voters. The Pew Research Institute has dominated the field of exploring the ideological cleavages among different generations. And its latest survey shows again how the liberalism of the youngest voting cohort, millennials, remains firm, and likely to continue to recast the electorate. A few charts from the survey

But since definitions of an "in name only" marriage vary, such as "a marriage of convenience" or "a sexless marriage," and Maraniss failed to explain his claim, it is unclear what he was implying. Therefore, Obama´s oft-told nativity story must be searched for the full implications of Obama´s parents´ "in name only" marriage.
