The 2012 presidential race in Texas might as well have been in Mexico, so little did the Democrats campaign for the state’s 38 electoral votes. Yet during a fund-raising swing on a sweltering July day, President Obama let a political secret out of the bag for his rich donors. “You’re not considered one of the battleground states,” he said, “although that’s going to be changing soon.” Democrats are champing at the bit to turn Texas blue. “People are now looking at Texas and saying: ‘That’s where we need to make our next investment. That’s where the next opportunity lies,’

Comments:
Texas businessman, Houston Astros owner, and major Dims fundraiser Jim Crane hosted Obama and played 5 rounds with him this weekend at the resort he owns, as did the U.S. Trade Representative and former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk…donors Tony Chase, Esq. of Houston and Milton Carroll head of Houston’s Centerpoint Energy joined the core trio; what 2014 Texas elections were being discussed? And the media is spending its time focusing on just one playing partner, Tiger...keep your eye on the ball as the Dims try to put Texas in play...sheesh…

I´m not sure the Dem dreamers fully realize that we´ve always had Hispanic voters in Texas and they do not vote in a Dem bloc. George W. Bush did extremely well with Hispanics. The GOP will have to keep an eye on the demographics over time, but we Texans nominate and elect GOP Hispanics all over the state in every election. They are just like the rest of us and not to be feared. The NYT also may not fully realize that Texas was Dem for all its history, but learned a lesson and is now fully GOP, probably close to being the reddest state in the country. Nothing is to be taken for granted, but even Hillary beat Barack in Texas, in the 2008 primary.

I suspect the plan is to employ the same hacking techniques on the Texas voting system that ensures dimocrat wins in other states. They need to talk it up now to raise the plausibility of a "win" and divert suspicion for when it happens next time around.

Texans need to be vigilant about voter fraud. South Texas used to have zombies rise from the grave ever election and vote the Democrat ticket!
Lyndon Johnson even joked about it.

While not being cocky about this, I say, bring it on. Please waste tons and tons of corrupt union money in Texas trying to get more illegal aliens and Katrina refugees to vote dim... but guess what? They already do. The biggest threat to conservative Texas is the refugees coming in from California. Many of them will probably bring their liberal voting habits to Texas, not realizing it was liberal policies that forced them to move to Texas, where the jobs are. This is where Texas pubbies should be focusing their efforts-- education of California refugees.

Duval county was know for it´s dead rising and voting. LBJ used to joke about "Vote early, vote often". Although o is no LBJ (not that is an admirable quality) he is has no problem in invoking the often used demorat mantra "I know what´s best for you" so if somebody votes 16 times for me it is in your best interests. Part of Texas´ problem is the liberal leftwing fanatics have taken over in Austin, Houston, San Antonio, El Paso, etc. In the rural areas the elderly are standing by the old mantra of I have been a democrat all my life, my parents were democrats, etc...they can´t see where their beloved party has left them behind. Most are too naive to comprehend that the voted in someone who has no problem in putting in a death panel, presenting them before it and the stepping back and saying by letting them die it is what is best for society as a whole.

#2, so right. Another thing is the "Hispanic" vote in Texas changing. Mexican-Americans 50 and up hard-working, law-abiding, interested in being American. The younger generation is right behind blacks in huge numbers of illegitimate births, which introduced youngsters to the lifestyle of living off the government. Add to that the victim ideology encouraged by the public schools, and you have young Hispanics choosing Democrats at the ballot box. We have to work hard to reach the younger Texas voters.

The interesting thing I have noticed is even many of the people leaving California and moving here, after a while a lot of them "turn red" -- they like the air of independence Texans have. Sure, Austin is a bastion of liberals (sadly, wasn´t always that way) and Dallas is changing. But with the people leading the so-called Democrats (which they are not any more), yes, vigilance is necessary - for they are lying cheaters.

Posters are correct! Vigilance is the operative word cuz Kirk is no joke after serving as USTR and penetrating the beef, agriculture, intellectual property, and oil/gas sectors important to Texas. Remember that the Chicago mafia raised $1billion for Zero, so money is no object, thus this NYT piece to give a heads up to their big money donor base why Texas must be in play. The same mafia targeted AZ senate seat being vacated by Kyl with Rich Carmona...they lost but it was only $. The Dims retained Missouri and picked up Indiana. My tinfoil hat scenario is for TX Tea Party types to do a replay of giving Cruz a victory over Dewhurst by choosing the Latina oil and gas regulator at the TX Railroad Commission to replace Cornyn and challenge Kirk. Then let´s look to Jindal recruiting General Honore or someone like him to go up against Mary Landrieu in Louisiana. Every Senate seat needs a strong GOP candidate if we are going to take back the Senate in 2014!

Be vigilant TX - look at what happened to Colorado. When I moved here 18 years ago, it was a solid red state. Now the whole state government is blue - governor, both senators, both houses of the CO legislature and they´re about to pass major gun-control legislation. Only a few rural representatives are still Republican.

Money and slander can go a long ways. Arizona´s House delegation is now 5-4 Democrat. My representative is an openly bi-sexual, atheist who is as far left as you can get. All it took for her to win was a makeover and a slander campaign run by the DNCC portraying her opponent as a Todd Akin clone. JD Hayworth used to represent my district. Texas needs to be vigilant and prepared for the dirtiest tactics they´ve ever seen.

Williamson, W.Va.- The man suspected of killing a West Virginia sheriff as he ate lunch in his car was mentally disturbed and had no particular vendetta with law enforcement, his father told The Associated Press on Thursday. Melvin Maynard said his 37-year-old son, Tennis Melvin Maynard, was exposed to harmful chemicals and injured while working at an Alabama coal mine. He most likely did not target Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum, he said. "He would have probably shot anybody, the first one he come to, you know what I´m saying?" the elder Maynard said. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.
