“It is our generation’s task, then, to reignite the true engine of America’s economic growth — a rising, thriving middle class.” So said Barack Obama in his State of the Union. And for one of his ideas to reignite that engine, Republicans applauded. “And tonight, I am announcing that we will launch talks on a comprehensive Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership with the European Union — because trade that is free and fair across the Atlantic supports millions of good-paying American jobs.” One wonders if any of those in the hall who rose Source corrected by staff.

Comments: Bogus free trade did. Read and weep. The rich get richer. The middle class disappears. The poor put their hands out. And Pat predicted this twenty years ago.

Middle class is being replaced by the "Government Class".
Government employment = higher pay, better benefits, better retirement, greater job security, less job pressure, little chance of the boss shutting down the business. .

That which is passed off as "free" trade is tariffless trade at best. We get hosed by the manner in which our trading partners manipulate value added tax to perform the identical function. Then there´s the practice of requiring domestic business to follow costly rules and regulations but it´s ok to purchace from Whocaresistan.

All of 0bama´s policies, taxes, and regulations are killing the middle class. The banks get free money; they pay no interest to savers. 0bama is printing 83 Billion Dollars each month out of the air, and every one who has saved is watching his dollars being reduced in value each month. There are no jobs being created, and 0bama has taxed the middle class into oblivion. 0bama is killing the middle class and rewarding his union buddies, and Facebook who made over a billion dollars last year and is 0bama´s friend, will pay no taxes on the billion dollars, but Facebook will get back millions from the taxpayers. How is that fair, and 0bama says he wants everyone to pay their fair share. I do not get it, I guess.

Not even going to read it. The American middle class will soon be gone, and it was inevitable because it was based on low skilled manufaturing jobs, not trades or professions.
Cheap, low skill manfacturing jobs left America for the third world where they are cheaper. Those jobs were little more than "train-a-monkey" jobs anyway, so why pay some guy in Michigan to do it for $20/hour plus benefits plus pension, when a Chinese coolie or an Indian untouchable will sit barefoot on a dirt floor and do it for 10 cents a day? Who in the world do people think makes those cheap $10 sneakers at Walmart? Some blue collar guy in Ohio with a three bedroom house, two cars, a bass boat and a hefty 401K? Seriously?
Manufacturing jobs will never return to America. Some manufacturing itself will, but it will all be done by robots, not people.
We are entering the period of post industrial America, and there is no model for how to manage it successfully. There are only failure examples, such as England. Both capitalism and socialism will perish as economic models, since they are both models for managing the manufacturing economies which are obsoleting at a breathtaking rate. But there are some ideas that may prove useful, and which may have been a century before their time. Read Chesterton.

The entire concept of global competitive advantage is lost on Obama because of his determination to knock the US down a few notches in global importance. The highest tax burdens, the greatest regulatory burdens and the most redistribution of resources are his goal.

The many jobs in nonunion (foreign-owned) auto plants and their suppliers - strewn now throughout the Southeast pay what we would consider ´middle-class wages´. According to Simplyhired, these wages average around 50K a year. Given the local COL - this is middle class.

Free trade with Europe?
This is the most ludicrous statement from the obama regime to date, or the most heinous plot to increase tax harvesting to date. You can guess what I will bet it is. The European union was started with one (only one) goal, Chareles DeGaul publicly stated it, often...it was to prevent American products from competing with European products. Whatever the European union has mutated into since, they have remained faithful to their original goal. The Europeans will not eliminate their 20% value added tax. That is a given. If obama wants a free trade agreement with Europe he will have to "normalize" the the national sales tax with Europe, right from the start, just to get the negotiations started. That means you will pay an extra 20% for everything, not just European products, everything. 20% of the GDP...you do the math. Once washington dc gets a 20% value added tax...who cares if a European trade agreement holds together...politicians just stuck 20% of America´s GDP in their back pocket. I´m not even going to mention the import duties that Europe charges to import American products into Europe that will add 300% to the cost of American made products, or dock side bureaucratic inspections that force non-European products to sit out in the open until they rot or rust.
Ludicrous.

Chelsea Clinton has raised her profile in the last few days, which sparked the inevitable question about the former first daughter´s future: Will she ever be like Mom and Dad and run for office? Clinton, 33, essentially said "maybe" in an interview that aired Monday on NBC´s Today show. "Right now I´m grateful to live in a city, a state and a country where I strongly support my mayor, my governor, my president and my senators and my representative," said Clinton, whose father, Bill, was president from 1993-2001 and her mother, Hillary

I’m worried about the Supreme Court. I’m worried about how the justices can properly debate same-sex marriage when some don’t even seem to realize that most Americans use the word “gay” now instead of “homosexual”; when Chief Justice John Roberts thinks gays are merely concerned with marriage as a desirable “label,” and when Justice Samuel Alito compares gay marriage to cellphones. The Nine are back there in their Miss Havisham lairs mulling, disconcertingly disconnected. In his zeal to scare people about the “possible deleterious effect” of gay parents adopting, Justice Antonin Scalia did not seem fully

Anti-abortion groups have been trying to re-impose restrictions on abortion rights for 40 years, but the Legislature and governor of North Dakota have taken this attack on women’s reproductive health and freedom to a shocking new low by passing a bill that they must know perfectly well is unconstitutional by any reading of the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision and others since.Under those rulings, full abortion bans are allowable only after fetal viability, which the medical community generally considers to be around 24 weeks into pregnancy. But North Dakota joins a growing list

"Not until I went to the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.” So wrote Alexis de Tocqueville. Yet, judged by the standards of those old “pulpits aflame with righteousness,” is America still a good country? Consider the cases taken up this week by the Supreme Court

Quite a few Republicans have been announcing new stages in their “evolution” on same-sex marriage, which is being debated in the Supreme Court today and tomorrow. Senator Rob Portman of Ohio said earlier this month that he was prompted to reverse his position when he learned his son was gay – after a two-year period of reflection that included having his name floated as a potential running mate for Mitt Romney, a staunch opponent of gay marriage.

In 2011, I wrote about mass murder at Kermit Gosnell’s abortion “clinic”: From the Office of the District Attorney in Philadelphia: Viable babies were born*. Gosnell killed them by plunging scissors into their spinal cords. He taught his staff to do the same. This is a remarkable moment in American life: A man is killing actual living, gurgling, bouncing babies on an industrial scale – and it barely makes the papers. Had he plunged his scissors into the spinal cord of a Democrat politician in Arizona, then The New York Times, ABC, CBS, NBC and everyone else would

It was a sickening crime that fit an all-too-familiar storyline. Young men who turned a night of partying into an ugly sexual assault. A culture in which high school football players are treated like gods and act as if no rules apply. And an innocent young woman who was abused by people she thought were friends and then humiliated. But what made the Steubenville, Ohio, rape case — which ended today with guilty verdicts against Trent Mays and Ma’lik Richmond — different and what made it feel cutting edge is the pervasive role

The world is full of Roman Catholics who long ago stopped following the dogma, doctrine and medieval sexual dictates of the church. But they never lost faith in Francesco, the merchant’s son who spoke to wolves, slept on dirt floors and dined with lepers. That the new pope would take the name of Francis, in honor of the saint from the Umbrian town of Assisi, is the most radical first move by a pontiff in some time. The 12th century mystic is the nature saint, patron of the environment, the poor, the dispossessed.

DETROIT — This city was already sinking under hundreds of millions of dollars in bills that it could not pay when a municipal auditor brought in a veteran financial consultant to dig through the books. A seasoned turnaround man and former actuary with Ford Motor Co., he was stunned by what he found: an additional $7.2 billion in retiree health costs that had never been reported, or even tallied up. “The city must take some drastic steps,” the consultant, John Boyle, warned the City Council in delivering his report at a public meeting in 2005.

During an interview for “This Week,” former Florida governor Jeb Bush told me that he was “in sync” with South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham on the issue of immigration reform. Graham, a key member of the bipartisan group of senators pushing for immigration reform, took Bush to task after the former Florida governor said Monday that he did not support a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants, which is a key component of the plan being pushed by the Senate group. Bush subsequently reversed course and said he could in fact support a plan

Jeb Bush isn’t not running for President. This is big news, even though the next presidential election is several zillion tweets away. It shakes up the political money world, where potential saviors like Chris Christie and Marco Rubio may find it much harder to fill their treasuries. It may tee up yet another of those Bush-vs.-Clinton death matches that are so entertaining. But it is potentially more important for those who’d like to see the Republican Party evolve past its current juvenility. Bush is thoughtful, and he thinks big. Asked on Morning Joe to name

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

More than six months since Ambassador Christopher Stevens was assassinated by terrorists in Benghazi, the Obama administration is still trying to keep a lid on information about the attack. Congress and the American people need to know what happened the night of Sept. 11, 2012. Who did the killing and what was their motive? Why wasn´t help sent? And why did the administration lie about who was responsible? Members of Congress have asked hundreds of questions at hearings conducted by several investigative committees, but many of the most significant have been left unanswered. Information detailing what happened before, during and Headline corrected.
