The 5 ‘Coolest’ Presidents In American History

| Happy Presidents Day! In honor of this federal holiday celebrating the American president, let’s take a trip in our Mediaite wayback machine to when there was an actual, lamentable national conversation about whether or not President Obama is “cool.” As a reminder: Back in April 2012, Obama slow-jammed the news with Jimmy Fallon, sending off a wave of conservative critics blasting the president as “nutso” and too focused on being seen as “cool.” But is Obama really that “cool”? No. Have you seen how dorky the man looks in a White Sox cap and mom jeans?

He´s a punk, trying to look cool. Wasn´t cool in high school--he hung out with the stoners. Wasn´t cool at Columbia--he hung out with the foreign students. Wasn´t cool then; Isn´t cool now.

The author does not consider Obama cool. My vote would be for George W. Bush. A pilot, a guy who can throw a baseball, a guy who cuts down his own trees and brush. Good sense of humor.

Call me an old, unhip, reactionary jackboot, but frankly, Mr. Kirell´s "Coolest List," with the possible exception of "The Bull Moose" from Oyster Bay, brings to mind something that might have appeared between the covers of Harvey Kurtzman and Professor Alfred E. Neuman´s best selling comic book, MAD MAGAZINE, from back in the 50s.

Someone touched on this - The premise is fatuous. Presidents aren´t supposed to be cool.
Presidents are supposed to be dignified and wise.
Presidents are supposed to set a positive path of behavior.
Presidents are supposed to be models worthy of copying.
Etc.
Alas . . .

This day in 1959, four months after leading a successful revolution in Cuba, Fidel Castro began an 11-day visit to the United States. His visit came at a time when tensions between his regime and the American government were rising steadily. Castro neither requested nor accepted an official government invitation for his trip to Washington and New York. Rather, he came at the invitation of what was then called the American Society of Newspaper Editors. During his stay, Castro placed a wreath on George Washington’s grave, toured the Bronx Zoo, ate hot dogs and hamburgers at Yankee Stadium and

Insurgents in Iraq deployed a series of car bombs as part of highly co-ordinated attacks that cut across a wide swath of the country today, killing at least 55 on the deadliest day in nearly a month. The assault bore the hallmarks of a resurgent al-Qaeda in Iraq and appeared aimed at sowing fear days before the first elections since U.S. troops withdrew. There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but coordinated attacks are a favourite tactic of al-Qaeda´s Iraq branch. Iraqi officials believe the insurgent group is growing stronger and increasingly co-ordinating with allies

Philadelphia Chief Medical Examiner Sam Gulino called the task "unprecedented." The job? Examining bag after bag of frozen fetuses removed from Kermit Gosnell´s West Philadelphia abortion clinic. "This was something that in 15 to 16 years . . . I had never been asked to do," Gulino told a Philadelphia jury today as Gosnell´s murder trial entered its fifth week. "There was no guidance on how to proceed," Gulino testified. And he asked. Gulino said fellow coroners and medical examiners and experts in forensic were as stumped as he.

CBS finally ended their on-air coverage blackout of the Kermit Gosnell´s murder trial on Monday´s CBS This Morning, airing two segments on the story a month after opening arguments began. Jan Crawford acknowledged that the Gosnell case "has received little national news coverage". Meanwhile, ABC and NBC´s morning and evening newscasts continued to ignore the ongoing legal proceedings against the abortionist. Crawford pointed out how conservatives "accused the media of ignoring the story because what it called a bias in favor of abortion rights", and how those "charges went viral on Twitter". In light of the explosions that have rocked Boston on Patriots’ Day, during the city’s annual marathon, NBC reporter Luke Russert took to Twitter to speculate that today’s horrific events could possibly be related to the 1993 government siege on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas — an incident often attached to conversations about “right-wing terrorism” and anti-government violence. “I was at Fenway Park w my dad and @mikebarnicle during Waco which was on Patriots Day in 1993. Speculating on possible link,” Russert tweeted following the explosions.

CNN national security analyst Peter Bergen told host Jake Tapper on Monday that the explosions in Boston could be the work of Al Qaeda terrorists as much as they could be part of a planned assault by “right-wing extremists.” Bergen said he was reminded of the Oklahoma City bombing, and that terrorism on the right could not be ruled out. Tapper asked Bergen if he thought there was a terrorist element behind the attack, to which Bergen replied that this event reminded of the 1995 attack on a federal building in Oklahoma City.

Global stock markets plunged on Monday after China reported that its economy grew more slowly in the first quarter — setting off a drop of more than 250 points in the Dow Jones index for the worst trading day of the year. After setting a string of record highs in recent days, the Dow fell 265.86, or 1.8 percent, to close at 14,599.20. The broader S&P 500 index fell 36.49 points, or 2.3 percent, to 1,552.36. Exchanges across Europe all posted losses as well. The news that China’s economy grew by 7.7 percent — far less than its double-digit pace

Meanwhile, major averages added to their losses following two explosions at the Boston Marathon finish line around 3pm ET, injuring several spectators and runners. Since he first became a presidential candidate, President Obama must have spent millions of dollars in legal expenses to combat dozens of so-called "birther" challenges seeking the original documents pertaining to his birth. As president, he famously issued an electronic document on the White House website in 2011; the document purported to be his long-form birth certificate, though it is apparently a forgery. In addition, he has taken great pains to hide the paper trail of passport records, college transcripts, and other data -- all of which a prospective employer might require of a job applicant.

Few Americans can not answer this question: who is the worst domestic mass murderer in United States’ history? Due to the United States media, most are aware that Timothy McVeigh slaughtered 168 people with a bomb in 1995. Most Americans also know the names of our three most monstrous serial killers: “The Green River Killer” Gary Ridgeway, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy. The U.S. media is again responsible for the general awareness of these men; these stories deserved — and received — national attention due to our common interest in personal safety, the rule of law

Here is something I don’t understand: liberals are often revealed as vile, vulgar hatemongers–not all of them, of course, but far too many–yet they never seem to pay a penalty at the polls. Why is that? Margaret Thatcher’s death has been the latest occasion for the Left to show its true stripes. All across the U.K., there have been demonstrations–vulgar at best, and violent at worst. In Bristol, lefties celebrating a Thatcher “death street party” started fires, destroyed property and battled police: This evening in Trafalgar Square, liberals have turned out for a long-planned celebration of Thatcher’s death:

The impending introduction of legislation to overhaul the country’s badly strained immigration system received an extraordinary endorsement on Sunday from Senator Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida, who, after holding back for weeks, appeared on no fewer than seven television talk shows to explain and defend a plan that he said would be “a net positive for the country, now and in the future.” It was a striking show of confidence from Mr. Rubio, one of eight members of a bipartisan Senate group that has been crafting a plan to provide a path to legal status for undocumented immigrants;

Is media bias to blame for lack of Gosnell coverage? Or something far more banal? The trial of Philadelphia doctor Kermit Gosnell would seem to have all the elements of a spectacular news story: shocking allegations, horrifying visuals, sympathetic victims. Yet until late last week, much of the national media was silent as testimony about Gosnell’s alleged “house of horrors” abortion clinic rolled out. Much of the media attention outside Philadelphia, in fact, centered on how little media attention the story was receiving outside Philadelphia.

President Obama and I were college classmate at Columbia University, class of ’83. I know all too well how mindlessly liberal the students and faculty of that institution can be, and Barack Obama is certainly no exception. My time at Columbia made it crystal clear: liberals always believe they are morally superior. [Snip] It is in this cesspool of intolerance that Obama and his Marxist cronies hatched a secret plan to destroy our country. There are two things you need to know about Obama at Columbia University. First, he was Pre Law and a Political Science major- just like me.
