Lawmakers welcome Obama´s
´new emphasis´ on Middle East

The Hill [Washington, DC], by Julian Pecquet

Original Article

Lawmakers are applauding what they see as President Obama´s “new emphasis” on the Middle East in his second term after Secretary of State John Kerry confirmed this week that he would be headed there ahead of the president´s trip in March. The twin visits are a tacit acknowledgment that the troubled region´s problems — the civil war in Syria, Iran´s nuclear ambitions and the stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace process — continue to dominate U.S. foreign policy. Lawmakers say the timing, coming after elections in both the United States and Israel, is ripe for Obama

Well, we´ll see. But I guess even a Mayor Bloomberg-type would have to notice when a fire at, say, the Metropolitan Museum of Art hits 8 alarms.

I can´t wait to see Kerry turn his mighty intellect to Syria. The former Syrian Prime Minister, who defected 6 months ago, has said Assad is no longer in charge. Iran is. Kassem Suleimani, the head of Iran’s al-Quds Brigades is in charge. Deal with that Johnnie. You gonna threaten to blow up Tehran if he doesn´t step down. I think we´d all be safer if Obama would ignore the Middle East.

It only took the Russians a week(or so) to get back to or S.O.S. Jon-Boy. [And it was much a-do about Nothing}

So now Skippy and Jon-Boy are going to the Middle East. The Israeli´s will tell them to ´pack sand´.
The Iranians (who invented chess). Will string them along some more.
Our Press Corps will come back to report that Skippy,and Jon-Boy had a wonderful trip.
Everything will be just ducky; until the Iranians put a bomb in their hip pockets.

The former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) lawyer who signed off on the agency’s now defunct rendition, detention and enhanced interrogation techniques (EIT) program in 2002 characterized recent allegations by Senate Intelligence Chairman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) that the CIA was spying on congressional staff investigating it as "purely political." “I think it’s purely political,” John Rizzo, the CIA’s former acting general counsel, told CNSNews.com. “I mean, keep in mind that the real ball is this Senate report, this 6,200-page report that the committee staff worked on for what, four years. A video of the resolution´s passage was posted online. Many of the students applauding appear to be Muslim, with female students wearing headscarves at the meeting. MOSCOW — Russia may revise its stance in the Iranian nuclear talks amid tensions with the West over Ukraine, a senior diplomat warned Wednesday. Russia´s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said, according to the Interfax news agency, that Russia didn´t want to use the Iranian nuclear talks to "raise the stakes," but may have to do so in response to the actions by the United States and the European Union. The statement is the most serious threat of retaliation by Moscow after the U.S. and the EU announced sanctions against Russia over its annexation of Ukraine´s Crimea region. House Republicans plan to vote this year on legislation promoting construction of a National Women’s History Museum, Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (R-Va.) office told The Hill. The move lends enormous momentum to the years-long push to establish a memorial to women’s history near the National Mall — a proposal that’s lingered in Congress for nearly two decades without ever reaching the president’s desk. Congressional supporters from both parties have been working behind the scenes to rally backing and pressure leaders to stage a vote on the bill this year, even as Congress’s shift into campaign mode has left little appetite for most

With midterm elections not far off, Democratic opposition researchers are armed with thousands of pages of records obtained from the Environmental Protection Agency through the Freedom of Information Act, far outpacing known Republican efforts to pry information loose from the agency, records show. Democrats have filed more than 50 FOIA requests, including lots seeking correspondence between Republicans and EPA officials — letters that operatives will scour for any hint that politicians’ rhetoric doesn’t square with how they conduct themselves outside of public view. "Two important features seem to appear across societies that have collapsed," reads the study. Top Senate Banking Committee members released plans this week to wind down mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and replace them with a complicated apparatus disturbingly similar to Obamacare. While the proposal by Senators Tim Johnson (D-SD), the chairman, and Mike Crapo (R-ID), the ranking member, was announced with great fanfare, it simply follows the outlines of another bipartisan bill, offered last year by Sens. Bob Corker (R-TN) and Mark Warner (D-VA). The words came out of my mouth before I could stop them. “I feel sorry for Obama,” I said. As my wife looked at me in disbelief, I quickly added a correction. “Well, almost.” Beset by failures at home and abroad, the president cuts a lonely and sad figure these days. His aura of grief reflects his profound loss. His worldview crashed headlong into reality, and reality won. Obamaism is dead, may it rest in peace. That’s sad for him, but hold the tears — his loss is mankind’s hope. If Obama wakes from his utopian visions and faces the

The expected rate hikes will be announced in the coming months amid an intense election year, when control of the Senate is up for grabs.
