The video games may have been a small part of it but I think his mom pushing him to go back to school is really what made him snap.He was an extreme social phobic.They just called it social shyness but I think it went well beyond that.There´s plenty of people who never leave the house because of this phobia.

I´m sure the video games were found long before obama made his guest appearance in Newtown. It wouldn´t have been convenient to disclose this information then, or while the anti-gunners and candy-asses like Bloomberg, Cuomo and Rahmbo are wettting themselves over magazine capacity. I can hear liberal pukes shrilly asking: So what does this matter now?

It´s time for some serious game control. No one NEEDS that many games.

One aspect seems to ask the chicken vs egg question. Do these games produce this type of personality, or is this type of personality attracted to this type of game? Or maybe each feeds the other, neither being totally responsible? Kids, boys predominately, typically exhibited aggressive behavior long before video games. They would stage wrecks with their toy cars, complete with vocally produced sound effects. Build huge structures with wooden blocks just to intentionally cause them to topple. Over speed their toy trains to run them off the track. Always trying to make the next incident bigger and better. The vast majority grow out of this phase and progress to normal adulthood. A small minority do not. Video games are probably part of the equation, but I doubt that they are solely responsible. The wiring in a person´s brain, I suspect, is the prime reason.

Unless the disk was thoroughly destroyed -- virtually unless it was ground down into powder -- the data stored there could be recovered through advanced forensic analysis. Unless he used bona fide strong encryption on that drive, authorities can reconstruct its contents.

I am shocked! Do you mean to say that a child with his own high tech video room in the cellar with 7.1 surround, a 100 inch lcd tv, and a dedicated gaming computer, and who was allowed to spend all his waking hours bombarding himself with larger than life gaming images of blowing up other humans, actually desensitized to the point where he could shoot up a kindergarten? Lets spend a couple hundred million studying this breakthrough in science!

In general, children with autism have trouble with imaginative play. They don´t do "let´s pretend" well. They can read a novel, watch a movie, play a video game, but mimicking or acting it out would actually be unusual for someone with this diagnosis.

As to the number of games in the house, most likely some of them are several years old from earlier game systems. Teen boys can go through a new game in 24 - 72 hours. Some put them on the shelf; others sell them back to the store to get some money towards their next purchase. Clearly the Lanza family was well-to-do; he may not have needed the money by re-selling the games.

We may never know exactly why he snapped, but I would be shocked if it were because he was acting out a scene in a game.

Untold millions of kids, and some adults, play those video games. My younger son did for a long time. How many went nuts and killed a bunch of school children? So far one.

I agree with most that the violent games should be stopped. I see no ´fun´ in shooting people then stealing their car.(I think the name is Grand Theft Auto) However, it is what it is and pretty much everyone can separate gaming from reality.

I blame George Lucas. The whole thing reminded me of the scene in Star Wars 3, Revenge of the Sith, where Anakin (Darth Vader) kills the children in the Jedi Temple.

The movie came out 7 years ago, Lanza probably gobbled it up at that age.

I´m still stuck on the statement of the friend of Lanza´s mother who said Adam was a vegan because he didn´t want to hurt animals. I have nothing against vegans but note how little has been made of this sign of a liberal mindset. Had the story been that Lanza was a churchgoer or a fan of the Bible, it would have been made almost as central to the story as guns.

I´m still waiting to hear about the "strong evidence for the motive" that the police announced they found within hours of the shooting. Maybe Lanza had his own little left wing manifesto.

Where would a kid growing up in a peaceful rural Connecticut town learn about and become desensitized to such extreme violence that he played out in that Connecticut school, if it were not for him constantly viewing and playing multimedia productions such as violent movies and video games?

In this particular case add in that his mother was a strange duck, a middle aged female with a number of apparently unsecured high powered firearms and ammunition in the home. On top of that she knew that her son was unstable and was probably scared of him. With a little forethought she could have easily secured those firearms in a gun safe that she would have had no problem affording, thus saving a lot of lives including her own.

Not that either of these things would explain what Lanza did - but these are two huge unanswered questions.

On Facebook, the other day, someone posted an interesting quote that I will paraphrase: So, you´re saying that playing hours of violent video games does not alter anyone´s behavior but businesses will spend 3+ million dollars for a 30 second ad during the Super Bowl so that people go out and buy their product?

I go back to the 1969 ruling that most forms of pornography are not detrimental to society. Sorry, society has gone downhill since.

It would be useful to know at what age Lanza began playing violent video games, because that is the sort of activity over which parents have ultimate control, especially with a child who has mental health issues.

I think that the prescription drugs this person took could have more to do with this incident than we are being told. It has been kept quite hush-hush, but most of the mass shooters in the last several years have been on, or recently stopped taking these anti-depressant drugs. Nobody wants to discuss it in the msm because their agenda is to ban guns.
