Obama Seeking to Boost
Study of Human Brain

New York Times, by John Markoff

Original Article

Posted By:pineledger, 2/18/2013 6:15:29 AM

The Obama administration is planning a decade-long scientific effort to examine the workings of the human brain and build a comprehensive map of its activity, seeking to do for the brain what the Human Genome Project did for genetics. The project, which the administration has been looking to unveil as early as March, will include federal agencies, private foundations and teams of neuroscientists and nanoscientists in a concerted effort to advance the knowledge of the brain’s billions of neurons and gain greater insights into perception, actions and, ultimately, consciousness.

Maybe they can start with a simple example, The Won´s.

Aren´t there a few more pressing issues at hand?

I would be interested in knowing if Barack even knows he´s constantly lying or does he live in some fantasy world where you can say two opposite things and not be a liar and a hypocrite. A few seconds of waterboarding would do the trick for far less "federal investment" though.

Where in the Constitution is the authority for this? We just shut down the space program and one of Obama´s first acts was to kill the missile defense program.

The Human Genome Project involved $3 billion of government funding. A private venture was started with $300 million to work faster and smarter. When the private venture began to approach completion, the government project was forced to download their draft sequence and then President Clinton stepped in to prevent patenting of DNA sequences (the pot of gold that was driving the private effort).

Both private and public efforts are already under way to understand the brain. We can´t afford the public approach nor should be allow the President to steal the intellectual assets of the private approach.

No. The purpose is to give a pseudo-scientific veneer to ignorant, bass ackwards progg claims of intellectual superiority over the American People who disagree with them, make it political suicide to claim to be a troglodite conservative, and give more power to the government to declare us all insane and ill and throw our pitiful, sorry arses into the gulag. Mr. Obama will argue for those steps in an emergency meeting Monday evening with leaders of the world´s top seven economies, held on the sidelines of a nuclear security summit in The Hague, officials said. Washington--One in five people who signed up for health insurance under the new health care law failed to pay their premiums on time and therefore did not receive coverage in January, insurance companies and industry experts say. Paying the first month’s premium is the final step in completing an enrollment. Under federal rules, people must pay the initial premium to have coverage take effect. In view of the chaotic debut of the federal marketplace and many state exchanges, the White House urged insurers to give people more time, and many agreed to do so. But, insurers said, some people missed

DENVER — Helping the terminally ill end their lives, condemned for decades as immoral, is gaining traction. Banned everywhere but Oregon until 2008, it is now legal in five states. Its advocates, who have learned to shun the term “assisted suicide,” believe that as baby boomers watch frail parents suffer, support for what they call the “aid in dying” movement will grow further. In January, the New Mexico Supreme Court authorized doctors to provide lethal prescriptions and declared a constitutional right for “a competent, terminally ill patient to choose aid in dying.” Last May, the Vermont Legislature passed a law

Washinton--A Congressional Budget Office analysis released Tuesday predicted that the Affordable Care Act would shrink the work force by the equivalent of more than two million full-time positions and recharged the political debate over the health care law, providing Republican opponents fresh lines of attack and putting Democrats on the defensive. The nonpartisan budget office’s analysis, part of a regular update to its budget projections, was far more complicated than the Republican attack lines it generated. Congressional Republican leaders called the findings “devastating,” “terrible” and proof that the health care law was a job killer. (Snip)Senator Joe Manchin III, Democrat
