2 Senate Opponents Vow
To End Bid to Block Hagel

New York Times, by Ravi Somaiya

Original Article

Posted By:LittleHoodedMonk, 2/17/2013 11:01:30 PM

Two of the most outspoken Republican critics of Chuck Hagel’s nomination as secretary of defense indicated Sunday that they would no longer hold up his Senate confirmation. Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, said on Fox News Sunday that he would stand aside because Mr. Hagel had disavowed comments that he was said to have made (Snip) “I don’t believe he is qualified,” Mr. McCain said. “But I don’t believe that we should hold up his nomination any further because I think it’s a reasonable amount of time to have questions answered.”

Comments:
Graham & McCain are definitely two RINOS that need to be put out to pasture by the Tea Party. This is why we are heading for WWIII with the current crop of 0bama appointees to his cabinet and tepid GOP challenges.

If you don´t believe he is qualified, you vote no.

This is why the Repubs are toast. There is no point in supporting them.

Thankfully, sanity is making a comeback. The GOP is back and open for business! Gramnesty and McAmnesty are unlikely saviors of a party gone right of Rove, but we will take what we can get. Onward, out of the desert. Next step, destroy gun grabbing, amnesty, and carbon taxes. Then, make a deal with Dear Leader, Nobel peas prize upon him, regarding sequester. Get that pipeline built!

Why does passage of time while you are waiting for your questions to be answered affect the qualifications of the candidate? IMHO, if he won´t answer questions from Congress before he starts the job, he certainly won´t answer questions after he has it.

Graham and McCain...two camera lovers who are about as close as you can get to despicable. Seriously...try to imagine either of them proceeding in a political career without speaking in front of cameras. Two lightweight jerks.

I´m disgusted. If they don´t think he´s qualified, then vote "no".

If he´s really terribly awfully bad, then hold up the nomination until you get enough information to make everyone agree with you, even the dems with noses in shadow.

We don´t know the answer to John McCain´s question to David Gregory today on ´´Meet the Press´´: ´´Don´t you care that four Americans died´´ at Benghazi?

But we DO know now that John McCain himself does NOT care what happens to other Americans like the four who died at Benghazi, because he´s preparing to vote into the office of Secretary of Defense a man whom he himself states he believes is UNQUALIFIED to hold that office, thereby placing everyone in the American military in danger.

How would John McCain have liked to serve under unqualified officers when he was in the military? ´´Despicable´´ is too good a word for John McCain.

Once again the progressives-in-republican wrapping have performed their political two-step slide dance, as demonstrated by Charles Durning in "The Best Little Horehouse in Texas." They make some conservative noises so that the GOPer cheerleaders can lambast patriots with the "Republicans are conservative enough" canard, but then drop their charade in the name of comity when it actually comes to doing something meaningful.

And, once again, we are expected to support this carp. Not me, not any more. It seems our nation has as many enemies within the "Stupid Party" as the Dims have in theirs.

What good will it do to "take over the Senate" in 2014 if alls we´ll get will be Rove Republicans? If this is the best the GOP can do, they can go the way of the Whigs. I can hardly wait for the usual suspects to post how misguided and prey to Dim propaganda anyone is who actually believes in the Constitution and has the termity to complain.

Hagel has a lot of questionable attributes but no home run hitter to completely shut him down. The Obama thug machine is jam packed with arm twisters that don´t play by any rules.

Obama and his cohorts have convinced over half the country that Israel is no longer a valid ally,so whatever Hagel said about them, does no damage.

Every time a republican challenges an Obama plan or appointee, they are subject to being smeared by the lackeys at the Slimes and other rag outlets.

Just read the article about police officers in Atlanta being arrested for their criminal activities using their badges and patrol cars to help the bad guys. This article seems very similar. Besides lamenting the condition of the country, we should think about why we´re in this shape. America the beautiful; God shed His grace on thee. Does anyone remember Him?

It is men like these who have brought us to the brink. McCain and Graham represent everything that is wrong in Washington. They have been there way too long and have no core principles. We know the no matter what they say, they will eventually cave to the ruling class. It is who they are.

I heard Graham´s remarks. He said he asked Hagel whether he said something Graham considered a deal breaker. Graham said that Haagel didn´t remember saying it and said he was sure he would not haave said such a thing. Graham said, basically, he would take Hagel´s word, (as a gentleman) and would, therefore, have to vote for him.
Is he a RINO or is he a principled man who is trying to play by the rules?

Sorry not to join the hanging party.

@22, we here in SC have been working to replace Miss Lindsey since the midst of his first term. The problem is not that more conservative candidates cannot be found. The problem is our corrupt open primary system, wherein Ds can declare themselves R For A Day and vote the slimy little toad back in.

And by the way, Lindsey´s official opinion of himself is that he was elected to vote the way HE sees fit... not the way WE want. Told me that hisself.

Stars of the GOP Kabuki theater. They get their mugs on TV to express "reasonable" concerns to placate conservatives. Then the deadline approaches: we have a crisis. I know, I know, the Senate is a club . . . blah, blah. If he´s not qualified, you vote no. If a simple no vote is not enough, you do whatever you need to do. DOD is too important to be put in the hands of two incompetents (the other being Fauxbama).

I´ve had it with RINOs. I changed my registration to independent because of the Grahams and the McCains in the Senate and the House. Each time I receive a letter asking for RNC national, state or local $ I toss in the garbage can. From now on I only will support the legislators who stick to their principles and have the courage to say no to bad selections or laws.
I´ve written to RNC and it falls on deaf ears.I seriously believe they have not read letters because there wasn´t any form of money in it. The RNC and its cohort in the senate and house will not recognize me and I no longer recognize them.

So, having staked out so-called principled positions on this issue, Senator Graham from Bend-Over, South Carolina, and John McCain, the nincompope, have decided to withdraw their objections to a self-evidently unqualified candidate?

It was important to Obama to ensure that a REPUBLICAN cuts defense. Finding a Republican idiot was just icing on the cake. Here´s the play: Make the Senate Republicans question Hagel and thereby force them to demonstrate just how stupid a Senate Republican is. Then rely on McCain and Graham to prove it by voting to allow a Republican they have deemed unqualified into office, making them look simultaneously unprincipled, obstructive, and double dutch stupid.

What a crew! What a coup! How much more are we all supposed to take? Are there any GOP politicians left who actually understand politics and know how to win?

On Tuesday Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) cited "Biblical compassion" as a reason to support the "Gang of Eight" immigration bill. Rubio told CBN that he supports the bill because “[o]ur faith has always been about compassion and it compels you to do something. "Now, we have an obligation to be responsible to our country and not do anything that hurts America but also our faith calls us to compassion. If you took compassion or the principle of compassion out of the Bible, it would be in tatters because it’s all over the place.” Mark Tooley, President of the Institute

The contradictions at the heart of the Obama presidency are finally out in the open. As a result, a man who came into office hellbent on restoring faith in government is on the verge of inspiring a libertarian revival. There have always been (at least) two Barack Obamas. There is the man who claims to be a nonideological problem-solver, keen on working with anybody to fix things. And there is The One: the partisan, left-leaning progressive-redeemer. (Snip) The dilemma for Obama is that neither is panning out because both incarnations rely on trust. The president never had much trust among

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper is really struggling to explain why he told Congress in March (see video above) that the National Security Agency does not intentionally collect any kind of data on millions of Americans. His latest take: It´s an unfair question, he said, like "When are you going to stop beating your wife?" And it seems to depend on the meaning of "collect." "I responded in what I thought was the most truthful, or least untruthful, manner by saying ´no,´" Clapper told NBC News on Sunday.

President Barack Obama said Tuesday that America “owes” it to certain illegal aliens to pass legislation providing a “pathway to citizenship.” “We owe it to America to do better,” Obama said in the East Room of the White House. “We owe it to the Dreamers to do better.” Obama then went on to cite several young people in the audience. Obama and supporters of the immigration reform legislation have called people who were taken into the United States illegally by their parents “dreamers.” Democrats previously supported the DREAM Act that would allow illegals who attend college or

The Obama administration is considering resettling thousands of refugees who left Syria during the country´s ongoing civil war to multiple towns and cities across the United States, the L.A. Times reports. A resettlement plan under discussion in Washington and other capitals is aimed at relieving pressure on Middle Eastern countries straining to support 1.6 million refugees, as well as assisting hard-hit Syrian families. (Snip) U.N. refugee officials, along with diplomats and non-governmental relief groups, are scheduled to meet in Geneva this week to discuss potential resettlement plans. Germany has already agreed to take 5,000 refugees.

Senator Barbara Boxer celebrated the rekindling of talks about gun-control legislation after a shooting at Santa Monica College last Friday. “Every single time something like this happens, I think this does give us wind at our back,” Boxer said on MSNBC over the weekend. On Friday, a gunman opened fire on the school’s campus in the state of California, killing six people, including the gunman. She said she does “worry about” the failure of the legislation after the Sandy Hook shooting last year, but knows that gun-control supporters “never give up.”

WASHINGTON — A State Department whistleblower has accused high-ranking staff of a massive coverup — including keeping a lid on findings that members of then-Secretary Hillary Clinton’s security detail and the Belgian ambassador solicited prostitutes. A chief investigator for the agency’s inspector general wrote a memo outlining eight cases that were derailed by senior officials, including one instance of interference by Clinton’s chief of staff, Cheryl Mills. Any mention of the cases was removed from an IG report about problems within the Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS), which provides protection and investigates crimes involving any State Department workers overseas.

In a Gallup tracking poll released Tuesday, former-President George W. Bush currently stands with a favorability rating of 49%, compared to 46% who see the 43rd president unfavorably. Meanwhile, another Gallup poll shows President Obama with only a 47% approval rating, with 44% disapproving. If you think about it, this makes perfect sense. After all, Obama fooled everyone when he ran as the anti-Bush in 2008. Everyone thought Obama meant he would be less hawkish than his predecessor. But as we have seen, Obama apparently has no problem killing American citizens

The Obama administration was facing renewed pressure over the secrecy of its surveillance programs, as a group of US senators demanded it reveal how it interprets the laws that underpin them and foreign governments expressed growing concern. A bill, to be introduced in the Senate on Tuesday, would force the US government to disclose the opinions of a secretive surveillance court that determines the scope of the eavesdropping on Americans´ phone records and internet communications. Separately, a leading member of the Senate intelligence committee came close to saying that James Clapper,

Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) said Wednesday that the incidence of pregnancy caused by rape is "very low," prompting criticism from Democrats who said the GOP is waging a "war on women." Franks made the comment during a committee mark-up of his late-term abortion ban bill, which is expected pass the House next week. The Republican lawmaker was arguing against a Democratic amendment allowing rape and incest victims to procure abortions. As written, the bill only exempts women whose lives are in danger. "You know, the incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low," Franks said.

Like a lot of people, I felt reassured earlier this year when President Obama spoke of the need to combat climate change for the sake of our children. The president demonstrated leadership that night in that State of the Union address by making it clear that he doesn´t see extreme heat waves, powerful storms like Hurricane Sandy, the most severe drought in decades and the worst wildfires ever in some states as just weird coincidences. He demonstrated leadership by calling out Congress, saying if it doesn´t act soon, he will take executive
