Tax sale wreaks havoc with
Cedar Lake woman´s life

The Times [NW Indiana], by Bill Dolan

Original Article

Posted By:US Veteran, 2/17/2013 1:05:24 PM

CEDAR LAKE | Blind and living on little more than her Social Security check, Dolores Pittman soon may be homeless. Lake County officials have mistakenly traded away the plot of land on which she had been living for 54 years in a tax delinquency sale. "I got an eviction notice Thursday. I don´t know what I´m going to do. Besides being scared that I don´t have a place to live, no one wants to take my cats. Being without my cats ... that would probably just kill me," she said.

Comments:
This woman was also charged ´´rent´´ for the land by the county who never owned.

Lake County Indiana is the ´´south end´´ of Cook County Illinois.

Need I say more?

Lake County Indiana is home to Gary, Indiana and is considered a democrat stronghold, much like Cook County, Illinois, which it borders. And like Cook County it can be counted on to provide the necessary votes to get someone like Obama elected. It´s known for reporting its votes last in most elections. "How many votes for Obama do we have? How many do you need?"

FTA it looks like she is legally out of luck. Something went wrong long ago in the paperwork. It was probably unintended.

But Indiana law should sort it out. That eviction notice is the sort of thing that a judge can stop in ten minutes. Then the whole case can be considered with no one tossed out on the street.

Pullins is going to feel a lot of pressure to let her off. But some people want the money and won´t relent. The title to the house itself is a red herring.

WAG. A flaw or ambiguity will somehow be found in the tax sale of three years ago.. Pittman will buy the land for a few $ at the new sale.

Guessing is fun.

This is an odd situation where a church group owned the land under the woman´s house, at least for some time.

There is a town in NJ, Mt Tabor, where that situation still exists. If you buy a house there, you own the house -- but not the land beneath or around it. All the land in the town still belongs to the "Methodist Camp Meeting Association."

So many of the elderly and disabled are trying to live on less than $1000 a month. If they are single, they live in poverty.

Yet, during the SOTU address, Zippy talked about raising minimum wage to $9.00 an hour and US helping worldwide poverty.

Charity begins at home, like ´you know´ the USA and citizens that actually paid into the system.

Fox News reporter Jana Winter faces jail for doing her job too well. She´s not been accused of any crime, only of protecting the identity of confidential news sources while reporting an important development in a major national story. A Colorado court has now compounded a pending murder trial with a second legal case, one with profound First Amendment ramifications. The story started on July 20, 2012, when James Holmes walked into a midnight showing of the Batman film “The Dark Knight Rises” in an Aurora, Colo.

A polluting-the-culture President Barack Hussein Obama, who has trademarked the American presidency as one dominated by golfing and holidaying, continues down the destructive path of gutting the American military. While the mainstream media will show the simpering Obamas during an ‘Easter Egg’ roll featuring lessons in a White House ‘Yoga Garden’ this year, Obama has laid a deceit-laden egg on the military in time for Easter: “Pentagon says survivors of the Fort Hood attack should not be eligible for the Purple Heart, arguing it would adversely affect the trial of Maj. While the Transportation Department warns that the sequester will lead to cutbacks causing snarled lines at airports across America, the agency is still considering a massive $5.5 billion government gamble on a high-speed train from suburban California to Vegas. The total cost of the XpressWest project is $6.9 billion, with 80 percent potentially being fronted by the federal government. It would create a train that runs from Victorville, Calif., to Las Vegas and, if green-lighted, would be the largest loan of its type issued in America.

A federal prosecutor came in for some biting criticism today from Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Stephen Breyer for a racially charged remark made during a criminal trial. The comment by the justices came as the court declined to hear the appeal of a man who was convicted in a Texas federal court of being in on a drug conspiracy. The issue for the defendant, Bongani Charles Calhoun, was whether he knew that the people he accompanied on a road trip were about to buy illegal drugs, or whether he was merely along for the ride.

Fact Check—CNN´s Blitzer:

Discussing gun control, CNN´s Wolf Blitzer on Friday told a Utah sheriff that if Barack Obama issues an executive order, that order is the law and the sheriff must obey. However, jurisprudence on this topic reveals exactly the opposite. As the head of the executive branch of the federal government, a president can issue executive orders only to employees of the federal government—and only regarding implementing federal laws or programs. A governor can likewise issue executive orders to employees of his state government regarding the laws or programs of that state.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
