Fear of gun control drives big
crowd at Ladson gun show

Post & Courier [Charleston, SC], by Andrew Knapp

LADSON--As Jason Mele watched people peering down the sights of Mossbergs, Bushmasters and Remingtons, he couldn’t deny that something felt different this time.[Snip]But the sentiment that drove people to the Exchange Park fairgrounds--a fear that politicians will strip Americans of their firearms after 26 people were slain at Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary School--was palpable Saturday, which likely went down as the most attended show in its history. This time, it could actually happen, many said. The enthusiasts cited changing times in which Washington lawmakers devise laws despite widespread disapproval. They pointed to President Barack Obama’s health care bill.

Comments:
Those businesses selling ammunition (including WalMart and KMart) areound here are limiting purchases of ammunition to three boxes. If they have any left, that is, and none of the places we visited yesterday had any of the most popular ammunition. Strange to see so many bare shelves in this (former) land of plenty.

Oh--we found two gun shops that have closed since last year.

Last night I had read that NBC/Comcast has denied advertising space to local gun dealers here in Michigan. Apparently a new policy they enacted on the 8th of this month. I won´t know until tomorrow if they are also denying cable services to these dealers, but rumor has it that they are. This isn´t just gun grabbing, this is like total control.

Gunshows all over the country are seeing record numbers. Some may think it is due to paranoia. I don´t think so. The people have good reason to fear what is happening in Wash DC and many state capitals.

#2 pretty well nails it. The current administration has *never* acted in line with the ´will of the majority´. Ever...be it health care legislation, or now ´gun control´.

If nothing else, the absolute *stampedes* to gun/ammo dealers - if reported on accurately by media - would be pretty clear evidence to the country that the *majority* of Americans don´t have issues with private gun ownership, as the ´paranoid elites´ do. The same elites largely protected by armed security - who would *not* give that security up after ´enlightened laws´ were passed - bet on that.

It´s fairly obvious that the main ´gun problem´ in the US isn´t hardware related - it´s *thug* related. Unfortunately, far too many of these thugs hold government office.

Face it libtards - law abiding Americans will *not* be disarmed - and you bozos trying to *change* the definition of law-abiding will come back and bite you on the arse.

#1, doesn´t a federal broadcasting license prevent NBC from denying someone from advertising? Are they allowed to discriminate like that? As long as an ad is legal and doesn´t break any laws, how can the arbitrarily deny the ad?

But - Susannah - as has been demonstrated time and again - let one of those ´religious´ groups try and turn down business from a ´moral´ viewpoint...

And every liberal blood-sucking ´law´ group in proximity goes after ´em, generally with an eye on ´out of court settlements´ known in the real world as ´extortion´.

You´ll pardon me - but when the letters ´NBC´ appeared *anywhere* in association with the name ´Al Sharpton´, their credibility blew out the window bigtime.

A decision to send Russian tanks into Ukraine would have echoes of the catastrophic invasion of Czechoslovakia by Adolf Hitler 76 years ago, according to a leading international security expert. Dr Jonathan Eyal, International Director of the security think-tank Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) said a such Russian move would be President Vladimir Putin’s “Sudetenland option”. Russia today claimed that the CIA could be behind the disappearance of toppled Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych. The official newspaper of Vladimir Putin´s government alleged that American intelligence may have secretly flown the disgraced tyrant--now accused of mass murder--to a new life after giving him personal guarantees if he left the political stage. The extraordinary claim in Rossiyskaya Gazeta will inevitably be seen as a smokescreen for similar suspicions that Russia is now shielding former ally Yanukovych, possibly at the headquarters of the Black Sea fleet in Crimea. It is not often that the American military takes its lead from its poorer British relations, so we should take it as a backhanded compliment that the US Army is to follow the example set by its British counterpart by reducing its manpower to its lowest level for decades. While Britain has cut the size of its standing Army to its lowest level since before the Napoleonic wars, the reductions announced by Chuck Hagel, the US Defence Secretary, will only see it scaled down to its smallest level since before it joined the Second World War, down to around 440,000
