| Twenty-six states have chosen to let the federal government run the online insurance markets required next year by President Obama’s health care law instead of taking on the job themselves or partnering with the feds. The Department of Health and Human Services had encouraged states to run their own markets, or “exchanges,” that help the uninsured find coverage, but only 17 states and the District of Columbia took on the task and seven states decided to split the duty with the Obama administration, according to a breakdown by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

So only 17 states have decided to create a state insurance exchange? From some legal reviews I had read back in late 2012, these are the only states whose citizens will be eligible for subsidies and whose businesses will be penalized if they don´t offer insurance to their employees. The strict letter of the law says the subsidies are only available from state established exchanges and the penalties only apply when an employee is not offered insurance by the employer but receives a subsidy from the federal government.

If Obamacare mandates are the trump card,I wonder what all the state insurance regulators will be doing for a living?
This law hasn´t even fully kicked in yet and Obama´s pre existing condition money is already depleted.
They´re already going to charge smokers double premiums,I wonder what other behaviors they´ll be super taxing? Of course if you´re an obese government leech,your lifestyle habits won´t cost you a dime.

Freedomworks.org has a great analysis of the huge problems Obamacare is having with the 26 states - all Red -- not setting-up state exchanges. Bottom line: SO complicated, Obamacare may never get off the ground.

That´s the way the law is written, but the IRS is claiming that Congress intended the law to apply to both types of exchanges and says it intends to enforce it in all states. Oklahoma is suing and the case probably will make it to the Supreme Court.
Let´s pray that Oklahoma prevails. If it does, Obamacare´s demise becomes infinitely more probable.

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius conceded Monday that implementing the Affordable Care Act has been more complicated and frustrating than the Obama administration expected, largely due to Republicans who have opposed the law´s state-based exchanges and Medicaid expansion. It seems very odd that President Obama has made gun control the signature issue of his second term, so far. He can’t possibly achieve any significant legislation; a few tweaks to the background check system, maybe, but there is no chance of getting any meaningful gun control through the House. The House Democrats aren’t even trying. So it also seems strange that all eyes are on the Senate, where Harry Reid will unveil some sort of gun legislation–no one knows what, exactly–on Thursday. The party’s left-wing base is lining up behind the bill, sight unseen.

In a poll conducted by PoliceOne, a majority of law enforcement personnel said universal background checks, "assault weapons" bans, and "high capacity" magazine bans do not make police safer and will not lower violent crime. Armed citizens, on the other hand, do make a positive difference. In the poll of 15,000 law enforcement professionals, 71% of respondents said an "assault weapons" ban would have zero impact on violent crime. Of those surveyed, 95.7% said the same of a "high capacity" magazine ban, and 79.7% said the same in response to a question on universal background checks.
