Final count in Florida´s
Python Challenge hunt: 68

MIAMI— Florida wildlife officials say 68 Burmese pythons were caught and killed during a public hunt for the invasive snakes in the Everglades. That tally might not seem impressive, considering that roughly 1,600 people signed up for the state-sponsored Python Challenge. But Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials say the hunt may have prevented thousands more pythons from being born in the Everglades. Female pythons can lay 50 to 100 eggs at a time. The Python Challenge began Jan. 12 and ended Sunday. Wildlife officials said Saturday that the longest python

As per Wiki:"The estimated population of pythons in the Everglades is between 5,000 and 180,000, and they can be found in all areas of Everglades National Park."

We´re gonna need a bigger contest!

Seems like the equivalent of air-conditioning your house by leaving a glass half-full of ice sit out in the living room.

U.S. officials told NBC News on Saturday that they are investigating terrorism concerns after revelations that two people apparently boarded the missing Malaysia Airlines jetliner with stolen passports. The officials said that they had found no clear link to terrorism. There are other criminal reasons, for example drug smuggling, that stolen passports might be used to board a plane. Two names on the passenger manifest of the plane, Malaysia Flight 370, matched passports reported stolen in Thailand, one from an Italian man and the other from an Austrian man, according to foreign governments and NBC News sources. Dr. Ben Carson teased thousands of conservatives Saturday morning about his political future, saying he does not know what God has in store for him, suggesting that he could have a future in elective politics. “America is a land of dreams,” he said, recalling as a child that he wanted so badly to become a physician that he actually looked forward to going to the doctor’s office. Mr. Carson’s message rocked the crowd at the 41st annual Conservative Political Action Conference, where activists from across the country came to see some of the GOP’s potential 2016 presidential contenders. Neurologist Ben Carson could be 2016’s sleeper presidential contender. You won’t find him in early polls, and he doesn’t make headlines for huddling with top advisers in primary states. Carson is lauded for his plainspoken yet forceful ability to speak clearly about the party’s values. The retired physician rose to prominence after delivering a controversial speech at last year’s National Prayer Breakfast, where he lambasted President Obama and his policies while standing just feet away from the president. Now, his supporters believe Carson, as a black Republican and a true political outsider, could be the one GOP candidate capable of

LONDON — If you don´t want something, giving it back is often an option. That´s precisely what some Americans, frustrated at what they see as onerous U.S. tax filing obligations for Americans living overseas, are doing with their citizenship. President Benigno Aquino´s spokesman Herminio Coloma said there was no timetable to complete the agreement which would allow more US troops and equipment access to the Philippines. The agreement, which the two close allies have been discussing for several years, is seen as part of a Philippine effort to counter China´s aggressive moves to back its claims to most of the South China Sea. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa joined Megyn Kelly Thursday night to react to the uproar over him cutting off Elijah Cummings‘ mic during a contentious IRS hearing, saying that accusations he was “racist” are just “beneath response.” Issa suggested Cummings’ outburst was a “pre-staged event,” but Kelly asked, “Who cares? Let him have his couple of minutes to rip on you! You’re a big guy, you can take it!” He acknowledged that in hindsight, he might have let Cummings rant, but it’s completely unjustified for any member of Congress to try and get his chairmanship revoked over the incident

So, Lois Lerner still won´t talk about her role in the illegal targeting and harassment by the IRS of conservative and Tea Party groups seeking 501(c)(4) tax exemptions. Lerner appeared for a second time Wednesday before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and claimed her Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate herself. It isn´t hard to figure out why Lerner´s lips are sealed. First, she knows the House of Representatives can cite her for contempt of Congress, but Attorney General Eric Holder would decide whether she is prosecuted on that charge. Via Matt Lewis, here’s Maverick once again demonstrating that “cordial relationship” in politico-speak means “two people who can’t publicly admit to hating each other but obviously do.” And it’s a cheap shot. Cruz’s point yesterday at CPAC was that Dole, McCain, and Romney lost because they weren’t conservative enough. That’s not because they’re gutless — he said specifically that they were “good” and “decent” men — but because they’re not committed, full-throated ideologues, even less so when they’re fighting for purple states in a national election. We can debate whether that’s true but there’s nothing offensive in raising the subject.

What’s been said of confession — that it is good for one’s soul but bad for one’s reputation — can also be true of testifying to Congress, so Lois Lerner has chosen to stay silent. Hers, however, is an eloquent silence. The most intrusive and potentially most punitive federal agency has been politicized; the IRS has become an appendage of Barack Obama’s party. Furthermore, congruent with exhortations from some congressional Democrats, it is intensifying its efforts to suffocate groups critical of progressives, by delaying what once was the swift, routine granting of tax-exempt status. So, the IRS, far from repenting

One of the most seismic changes in American politics over the last decade has been the emergence of a sharp generational split among the electorate. The Democratic Party owes its success in the last two presidential elections almost entirely to overwhelming support among the very young, which has overcome continued conservatism among older voters. The Pew Research Institute has dominated the field of exploring the ideological cleavages among different generations. And its latest survey shows again how the liberalism of the youngest voting cohort, millennials, remains firm, and likely to continue to recast the electorate. A few charts from the survey
