New York must update its abortion law
Journal News [White Plains, NY], by Editorial

Original Article

The proposed Reproductive Health Act, part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s far ranging Women’s Equality Act, aims to update the state’s decades-old contraception and abortion law. The bill is sponsored in the Senate by Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins, D-Yonkers. Unsurprisingly, the measure has generated no small amount of controversy. The bill is being attacked by anti-abortion activists as too radical. (Snip) Since the rise of the Tea Party in the 2010 election, there has been a nationwide spike in measures aimed at further restricting abortion rights. “There are concerted efforts in Washington

Ironic that the face for abortion is "black" and against are those angry, "white" Tea Partier´s.

I think we need to have common sense abortion restrictions. It´s for the children. The (imaginary) amendment doesn´t mean unrestricted.

Anything that lowers the production rate of new New Yorkers is a good thing. Make abortion mandatory in New York I say.

If we must have legalized murder of infants (i.e., abortion), I am totally in favor or unrestricted, free abortions on demand for any mother who can produce her voter registration card as proof that she is a registered Democrat.
They want abortion; they can have it. The faster that Dems make themselves extinct through abortion, the better.

Obama, the feckless tyrant
Washington Post, by Dana Milbank    Original Article

President Obama is such a weak strongman. What’s more, he is a feeble dictator and a timid tyrant. That, at any rate, is Republicans’ critique of him. With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Obama’s critics pivoted seamlessly from complaining about his overreach to fretting that he is being too cautious. Call it Operation Oxymoron. Last Wednesday, I sat in a House hearing and listened to Republicans describe Obama exercising “unparalleled use of executive power” and operating an “uber-presidency.” They accused him of acting like a “king” and a “monarch,” of making the United States like a “dictatorship” or a “totalitarian government”

Nearly 1 in 5 U.S. soldiers had a common mental illness, such as depression, panic disorder or ADHD, before enlisting in the Army, according to a new study that raises questions about the military´s assessment and screening of recruits. More than 8% of soldiers had thought about killing themselves and 1.1% had a past suicide attempt, researchers found from confidential surveys and interviews with 5,428 soldiers at Army installations across the country. The findings, published online Monday in two papers in JAMA Psychiatry, point to a weakness in the recruiting process, experts said. Applicants are asked about their psychiatric histories,

Cincinnati - Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, said Monday he intends to seek re-election as speaker of the U.S. House, adding he is confident he will win. "I think I´m in better shape with my caucus than I have ever been in the last three years," he said, adding that his recent purchase of a condominium on Marco Island, Fla., "has nothing to do with my future." Boehner added it is time the United States joined with Europe to impose sanctions against Russia for its military incursion into Ukraine. He did not specify what sanctions should be ordered, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported Monday.

Moscow - President Vladimir Putin has ordered troops that took part in military exercises in central and western Russia to return to base after completing their training, Russian news agencies quoted the Kremlin spokesman as saying on Tuesday. Moscow had denied that the exercises, which began last week, had anything to do with events in Ukraine, where Putin has said he has the right to deploy troops to protect Russian compatriots. The exercises ended on schedule. The Russian leader watched the final day of the exercises on Monday, showing no sign of concern at warnings from western powers that Russia

Washington - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu bluntly told Barack Obama on Monday that he would never compromise on Israel´s security even as the U.S. president sought to reassure him on Iran nuclear diplomacy and pressure him on Middle East peace talks. In a White House meeting overshadowed by the Ukraine crisis, the two leaders avoided any direct clash during a brief press appearance but were unable to paper over differences on a pair of sensitive diplomatic drives that have stoked tensions between them. Obama assured Netanyahu of his "absolute commitment" to preventing Iran from developing atomic weapons,

4 Reasons Putin Is

Even a week ago, the idea of a Russian military intervention in Ukraine seemed far-fetched if not totally alarmist. The risks involved were just too enormous for President Vladimir Putin and for the country he has ruled for 14 years. But the arrival of Russian troops in Crimea over the weekend has shown that he is not averse to reckless adventures, even ones that offer little gain. In the coming days and weeks, Putin will have to decide how far he is prepared to take this intervention and how much he is prepared to suffer for it. It is already clear, however, that he cannot emerge as the winner of this conflict, at least not when the damage is weighed

The medical examiner just released the official cause of death -- listing "acute mixed drug intoxication" as the reason PSH passed away suddenly on February 2nd. According to the medical examiner, the drugs in the actor´s system at the time of his death were heroin, cocaine, benzodiazepines (anti-anxiety) and amphetamines (uppers like Adderall). Mixing heroin and cocaine is often termed "speedballing." It´s the same mixture that killed Chris Farley, River Phoenix,

The Clinton Presidential Library released a batch of roughly 4,000 pages of previously-secret White House documents Friday, fueling questions about how history could affect the presidential ambitions of former first lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Several topics covered in Friday’s release relate to Mrs. Clinton, including records from the Health Care Task Force she headed and from her press office in the White House. The papers include internal musings by White House aides, including a warning that there was “great disquiet” on Capitol Hill about whether the Clintons understood the legislative process needed to enact the health

Gox, the troubled exchange for the virtual currency Bitcoin, filed for bankruptcy protection on Friday and said that it might have lost 750,000 of its customers’ coins, essentially all of them, in a hacking attack. The Tokyo-based exchange, which warned this month of a software flaw that may have allowed hackers to defraud it of Bitcoins, had halted all trading this week. Mark Karpeles, the company’s chief executive, wearing a suit instead of his usual T-shirt, bowed in contrition and apologized in Japanese at a press conference in Tokyo. “There were weaknesses in the system,” he said.

Washington - The National Archives made public on Friday afternoon a trove of secret documents detailing the inner workings of Bill Clinton’s White House, a disclosure of acute interest not just to the history of one presidency but to the prospects of another. Thirteen years after Mr. Clinton left office, the release of 3,000 to 4,000 pages of internal memos and other papers may shed light on decisions he made during a tumultuous time and, just as significantly if not more so, possibly the role his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, may have played in shaping them. The documents are the first batch of a larger set of papers withheld until now under

FOR FIVE YEARS, President Obama has led a foreign policy based more on how he thinks the world should operate than on reality. It was a world in which “the tide of war is receding” and the United States could, without much risk, radically reduce the size of its armed forces. Other leaders, in this vision, would behave rationally and in the interest of their people and the world. Invasions, brute force, great-power games and shifting alliances — these were things of the past. Secretary of State John F. Kerry displayed this mindset on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday when he

He leads a company that some would consider the epitome of ruthless global capitalism. But Apple chief executive Tim Cook has shocked some in the US with an impassioned attack on the single-minded pursuit of profit – and a direct appeal to climate-change deniers not to buy shares in his firm. Eyewitnesses said Cook, who succeeded Steve Jobs as boss of the technology giant in 2011, was visibly angry as he took on a group of right-wing investors during a question-and-answer session at a shareholders’ meeting.

The protesters were mostly college students who participated in a peaceful march that began at Georgetown University and ended outside the White House. They chanted "climate justice now" and carried signs with slogans such as "don´t tarnish the earth" in an effort to persuade President Barack Obama to reject the pipeline. They say it will worsen global warming. Protesters were passionate but quite orderly. Police were waiting for them with buses and vans to speed the process.
