Army wants outspoken
West Point cadet to pay up

NBC News, by Kari Huus

An Army cadet who left West Point just months shy of his graduation to make a high-profile protest of religious proselytizing at the school now faces Pentagon demands that he repay the cost of his education — either through active-duty service or by paying as much as $250,000. The notification this week that he would be hit up for the fees blindsided Blake Page, 24, who says that top leadership at West Point assured him that "recoupment" of costs for his taxpayer-funded education would be waived when he left the school in December. The Army’s move to deny the waiver —

The Army is willfully giving him a bigger platform by threatening this. They will eventually back down (they want education to be free for all), but the Army, under the Obama regime, will have made huge progress in their fight bringing attention to how many in the military still (wrongfully for public service in their opinion) uphold Christian values. They´d much rather see the Army full of godless, souless, valueless, politically correct Obots. Raising public awareness using this boy as a tool will then allow them to shut down the free speech rights of those in the military.

I say leave the boy alone to live his godless life. He´ll realize the truth in the end.

Say there, just because our elected officials steal from US taxpayers does not mean that you can as well. A line must be drawn in the sand on this one. Examples made or something. Ask a politician how he does it...follow his instructions for a more profitable outcome.

I recall back in the early 70s, a few about-to-become officers suddenly decided their conscience wouldn´t allow them to fight an "unjust" war. Conveniently, this revelation came about just prior to graduation.

For some reason I kept reading his name as "Blank" Page, which is really more appropriate, given his lack of religious conviction.

I guess young (24 years old and still in West Point???) Blank learned a valuable lesson in litigious America... always get it in writing.

FTA: Asked what will he do if the military sends him a bill for $200,000, he responds: "File for bankruptcy, I guess."

Good luck with that Blank, the law passed last year treats education loans as permanent and immune to bankruptcy.

Why does he get out of the contract that everyone else signed and are forced to live up to? Put him in the Army as a private. That is the agreement he signed. Send his butt to Afghanistan.

I went through ROTC and we were told if we dropped out we´d do 4 years as an enlisted because of the contract we signed. Well he´s in the same boat. Stick it to him.

Ross Perot was only slightly slicker about getting the taxpayer-funded education before bailing out. He served barely 15 months of the required four years, then asked for an early discharge because his tender ears were flamed by the rough language on board ship. Disgusting man!

My son is a cadet and had a trip planned to Israel and Jordan for spring break. Fully funded by an alumni foundation. The Commandant cancelled all overseas trips, because it wouldn´t look good to have our best and brightest traveling overseas in the current era of austerity. The foundation lost all the deposits and airfare. But trust me, those kids at West Point are solid. The weirdo´s are just looking for a way out because they can´t measure up.

IIRC... There used to be a policy(?)>
A cadet who dropped out of a Service Academy; if for any reason other than a medicalreason, still had an obligation to complete (as an enlisted man. A period of service in their particular branch. Maybe, they have voided that policy in favor of making the miscreant pay the value of the education(and time?) delivered to the individual?

Hey #16 - my son´s in the class of 2015 - where are y´all from? You are correct - these kids are solid: conservative and religious & take ´honor, duty, country´ very seriously. I just love to introduce groups of them to friends - they are inspiring compared to other university students.

And yes #12, they tend to be a bit older than the average graduate - 24-25 is not uncommon at West Point - I´ve met many who started academic careers elsewhere and switched. This extra level of maturity truly serves West Point well.

Meanwhile, this weekend, we are packing goody boxes for our cadets at our monthly parents´ meeting: these kids no longer get desserts at West Point. Hamburgers, 2 our of 3 times are going to be turkey burgers. (We invite cadets to join us at restaurants for steak dinners whenever we get up to NY) You can have seconds on side dishes but rarely on the main dishes. My kid´s in crew so we send him Powerbars regularly to keep him from starving & he´s taken to buying an extra meal at Grant Hall almost daily. And yes, extra curricular stuff is getting cut every which way - it´s disheartening.

I hope this WP cadet in the article is forced to pay up either by service or $.

We live in the Gelded Age. Why isn´t this ex-cadet an enlisted man? Except for medical exemption, enlistment is the rule, if one goes past their second year at a service academy. He owes this to the taxpayers and we should insist he honor the obligations he agreed to.

Apart from all of the above, the sweet puddin´ suffers from depression? Really? Where are Gen. Patton´s gloves? Since he´s dead, I´ll do happily do his work for him and slap Little Precious´ pasty mug.

This schlub has taken a space that someone else who would be a credit to his country could have had.

In no way is this ingrate a credit to anyone or anything of importance to this great country he is choosing not to serve.

The huffington post is not important. Anyone who likes to spew venom and can string together two or three sentences can write there! It takes exceptional people to win an appointment to West Point, because our country expects the best of those who will lead in battle. That´s why Obama would never have gotten in.

You know, the one that commits to repayment or military service in the event that the cadet resigns?

Secretary of State John Kerry today warned Russian President Vladimir Putin to stay clear of the political turmoil in Ukraine, adding that the U.S. doesn´t view the international tussle over the democratic movement in Kiev as a continuation of the Cold War. “We do not believe this should be an East-West, Russia-United States. This is not ‘Rocky IV´, believe me. We don´t see it that way,” Kerry said in a reference to the popular film in which Sylvester Stallone’s character is pitted against a Soviet bully. Appearing on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” Kerry urged Putin to be “very careful” as he plots

Kerry Kennedy has been found not guilty of drugged driving — and gave herself a hearty round of applause after jurors were dismissed from court by a Westchester County judge. The jury handed down the verdict after just 30 minutes of deliberation Friday morning. The six-member panel had deliberated about 45 minutes Thursday night after being handed the case. Kennedy — who had faced up to a year in jail if convicted — hugged both her lawyers as the verdict was read, and then began clapping after the jurors left the courtroom. Her lawyers and a band of supporters, including

President Barack Obama has launched a new program to help African American boys and drew on the low points in his youth during a speech this afternoon. ´I made bad choices. I got high, not always thinking about the harm it could do. I didn´t always take school as seriously as I should have. I made excuses. Sometimes I sold myself short,´ Obama said in the East Room of the White House on Thursday. His comments about his teenage years came as he launched the program called ´My Brother´s Keeper´ which plans to strengthen efforts in creating more opportunities for young black

The question isn’t why Arthur Chu brought his peculiar, buzzer-smacking brand of game play to “Jeopardy.” The question is why, in 50 long years of the show’s history, more people haven’t done the same. Chu, if you haven’t heard of him, is the “Jeopardy” contestant nonchalantly bulldozing America’s collective nostalgic vision for how game shows should work, who cruised to his eighth straight victory on Thursday night. The insurance compliance technician from Ohio who is also a “stand-up comedian, Shakespearean actor, improviser, tour guide, genius and, most importantly, voiceover artist,” according to his Web site — has used his renegade style

A chilling video of Maryland police silencing an innocent student who was recording the arrests of two other people has civil libertarians outraged. The arrests were made at night on the streets of Towson, Maryland. A University of Maryland-Baltimore County student who witnessed the arrests decided to record them using his cell phone. The student, 21-year-old Sergio Gutierrez, was soon approached by officers who objected — wrongly — to his actions. Gutierrez repeatedly told the officers that he knew he had the right to film them, but the cops were prepared to use any excuse to shut him down. First they told
