The article notes that families of unstable individuals who go on to commit crimes may miss the warning signals. However, it doesn´t address how or why they ´miss´ the signals. In many cases, they do see the signals, but they are powerless to do anything. A person cannot be hospitalized just on the basis of a family member sensing warning signals. Police can´t intervene just because the family sees warning signals. Families are frequently told that privacy rights prevent them from getting involved or getting information. But of course, if something happens, people point their fingers and say, "The family should have warned us!"

Good question - I think the fact that Amy Bishop was a professor helped deflect some from her being tagged as troubled or ´about to explode´ at UA. I wonder if the social status of her family had anything to do with the way the state investigator handled the case at the time she killed her bother in MA? She was a teen & she acted just like any ´boy´ who had shot somebody by flight which escalated into an armed stand off. Very dramatic! Why did that incriminating reaction no go to the DA?

In the early 70´s our culture gave women the right to murder. They reinforced her thoughts that her needs were superior to everyone else´s....even to the point of taking a human life. Exactly what did society think would happen once they opened that barn door?

Waneta Hoyt started her murder spree 12 years before abortion was legalized, so clearly there were other factors operating in her case.

This was a very interesting article, but it fails to note that Amy Bishop´s family had the social and political clout to kill the investigation into the murder of her brother. Which they did.

It has been my experience with a sister who is a sociopath that law enforcement, social services and even judges who really should know better make poor judgements about guilt and veracity of claims when dealing with women like her. Sociopaths through practice become better and better at lying and convincing everyone around them through their compelling personalities that they are the ones telling the truth. Without practice at lying, witnesses are not convincing at all and are prone to giving up. Several of the women cited in the article could very well be sociopaths.

Exactly right, #1. That´s why child abuse cases go undetected or unprosecuted as well.

The article moves from reported facts to sophistry in that it eventually blames MALES for the bias that says women cannot be murderers. The article is one more piece of femiNazi propaganda in the end.

It´s kind of the same attitude we have when we discover a female teacher is having sex with an underage male student. Lots of nudge nudge, wink wink goes on with men saying they wish they´d had teachers like that when they were in school. Oddly, they aren´t laughing so much if it´s a male teacher with their underage daughter, or, a male teacher with their underage son.
