Barack Obama says ´I wish

Telegraph [UK], by Jonathan Wynne-Jones & Jon Swaine

In an unusually personal speech at a school in his old Chicago neighbourhood, Mr Obama, who was raised by his mother, said his attempts to introduce new gun control laws must be matched by more men behaving like role models who are “held up in respect” by their sons, grandsons and nephews. “There´s no more important ingredient for success, nothing that would be more important for us reducing violence than strong, stable families, which means we should do more to promote marriage and encourage fatherhood,” said Mr Obama. Hailing his “heroic” late mother, Stanley Ann Dunham,

He certainly isn´t much of a father to his own daughters. Golfing all the time, campaigning even when the campaign is over, separate vacations..so when does he spend time with them?

From what we know about his mother, he probably is confused as to who his actual father might have been.

Gee, this could be the start of a roll. A reality roll.

Fathers are vital! There goes a half century of Wommyn´s rage, an important part of Democrat "values." Now, if BO were to stand up and say "we must and will renounce all harmful Democrat policies of the last half-century" the salvation of Chicago would be at hand.

Sadly, Chicago will continue to be a showcase for all that is toxic with the Democrats.

"In an unusually personal speech ..."

He was listening to Ben Carson´s speech. He saw how effective it was, therefore his own mother is suddenly transformed into an
"heroic" figure, when she was actually precisely as #8 described her.

Add that to this recent comment from comedian Chris Rock: “I’m just here to support the president of the United States. The president of the United States is, you know, our boss. But he’s also, you know, the president and the first lady are kind of like the mom and the dad of the country. And when your dad says something, you listen. And when you don’t, it usually bites you in the ass later on. So, I’m here to support the president.”

Obama is just maximizing his opportunities with the help of his cadre of admiring acolytes.

He is that "role model", "boss", "dad". Listen to him, young people. Do what he tells you to do.

Saying that is not to negate any truth of the fact that "strong, stable families, which means we should do more to promote marriage and encourage fatherhood" is a major part of the answer. However, the principles guiding that marriage and family determine its character.

Stopping through Connecticut for the first time since a mentally ill gunman slaughtered 20 first-graders and six educators at a Newtown elementary school in December, President Obama on Monday delivered an impassioned speech, rallying those affected by gun violence to "expect more" from Congress and to urge lawmakers to move this week on legislation. "The day Newtown happened was the toughest day of my presidency," Mr. Obama told the crowd at the University of Hartford, where family members of the massacre´s victims sat. Since when has it been considered smart to tell your enemies what your plans are? Yet there on the front page of the April 8th New York Times was a story about how unnamed "American officials" were planning a "proportional" response to any North Korean attack. This was spelled in an example: If the North Koreans "shell a South Korean island that had military installations" then the South Koreans would retaliate with "a barrage of artillery of similar intensity." Whatever the merits or demerits of such a plan, what conceivable purpose can be served by telling the North Koreans

Hours after the Lockerbie atrocity, Mrs Thatcher was wading through the carnage wrought by terrorists over a small Scottish town, paying her condolences to the bereaved. It had been a long and harrowing day, but when she arrived back in London late that night she still found time to phone me at home. Her voice was anxious, kind. She asked: ‘How is Ray, dear?’ The day before, my husband had suffered a serious accident and Mrs Thatcher had been characteristically solicitous, offering her car to run me home.

Arizona Gov. "It is chilling to imagine an Arizona school child being shut away in a padded room, no larger than a closet, for hours on end," Brewer said after signing the law Friday. "There has to be a better way." With the new law, Arizona will join more than 30 other states that impose rules on the restraint of students in public schools.

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Writing in the blog The Review, J.P. What Freire found was an evident sense of admiration for Chavez’s accomplishments as the Latin American state’s autocratic leader, but a distinct lack of respect for Thatcher’s achievements in office. “Love her or loathe her, one thing’s beyond dispute: Margaret Thatcher transformed Britain,” AP opened the former U.K. prime minister’s obituary on Monday.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”
