Magical Fairyland budgeting
Orange County Register (Ca), by Mark Steyn

Original Article

"I´m also issuing a new goal for America," declared President Obama at his "State of the Union" on Tuesday. We´ll come to the particular "goal" he "issued" momentarily, but before we do, consider that formulation: Did you know the president of the United States is now in the business of "issuing goals" for his subjects to live up to? Strange how the monarchical urge persists even in a republic two-and-a-third centuries old. Many commentators have pointed out that the modern State of the Union is in fairly obvious mimicry of the Speech from the Throne that precedes a new

There´s no reason Zero shouldn´t be utterly delusional, his entire life and career are built on nothing but lies and deceit yet he´s never been held accountable.

Another home run by Steyn. "So, in public, [Obama] issues goals, orders dreams, commands unicorns". The great and powerful Oz has spoken--pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Steyn aside, it is in fact a function of an executive, anywhere, any time, to set goals. That´s how businesses run. Strange that Steyn either doesn´t know it, forgot it, doesn´t care, or has entered the last stage (deliquescence of the brain) of scumbama derangement syndrome. There´s so much actually wrong with scumbama, why invent a magical fairyland definition of "executive"?

Ah, yes the old Stalinist Tractor Factory ploy: This factory will produce 2,000 tractors in the next 12-month period. And when this impossible goal is not reached because steel mills don´t exist, then blame the "Wreckers" and find that there is an "Engineers´ Plot".

Barry´s concept of job creation via pick and shovel road and bridge building is his fairyland dream from his childhood.
The boy thrilled to watch the peasants with pick and shovel build a railroad now wants to bring that amazing concept to the USA as his gift to the nation.
Since he has never seen modern construction with highly skilled workmen he doesn´t know he is 100 years behind building jobs. The same thinking pilots his ideas of all jobs.

An American president is not a business executive or a CEO. The government is not a business, it is the government. The presidency is one of the three branches of government. An American president does not "issue" anything. This is the language of tyrants (or bureaucrats - which in practice comes to the same thing). Steyn is right to notice the implications of this language, which is yet another indication that Obama neither understands nor supports the American system of government. Like nearly all radical Leftists, he views the Constitutional system of checks and balances as an antiquated and utterly unnecessary obstruction to his plans. But if Americans are prepared to accept someone like Obama "issuing" goals for them, they deserve what they get. They are no longer worthy of the liberty for which previous generations fought and with which they were entrusted, gratis. They have chosen to become serfs, to whom nobles and czars and commissars "issue" ukases for them to obey.

Re: " America moves forward only when we do so together," declared the president. I dunno. Maybe it´s just me, but the whole joint seems to be seizing up these days: the more "activist" Big Government gets, the more inactive the nation at large.

Obamaland, the fundamentally transformed collective, will be placed on fhe same list as Haiti, Venezuela and Zimbabwe for most impoverished. Obama will have achieved the unprecedented, something that normal people will regret.

Imperial Presidency: Rather than celebrate our country´s unique heritage of limited government, the president complains that he´s constrained by the Founders. Here´s a man hungry for raw power. Just so that we won´t be accused of taking his comments out of context, here they are: "The government is us," President Obama said Wednesday in Denver. "These officials are elected by you. ... I am elected by you. I am constrained, as they are constrained, by a system that our Founders put in place. It´s a government of and by and for the people."

There used to be a formulation of cynical news editors to determine American news priorities for mass murder. It ran something like: 1,000 dead Bangladeshis = 100 dead Italians = 10 dead Americans. So how many dead American babies does it take to make the news? I wrote two-and-a-half weeks ago about the U.S. media’s determination to ignore a story that’s inconvenient to their biases. But, given the gun-banners’ ceaseless grief-feasting on Sandy Hook, at some point doesn’t the corpse count in Philadelphia merit maybe, oh, a thousandth of the attention?

The trial details are nothing short of sensational: A doctor accused of killing seven newborns and a young woman at a filthy Philadelphia clinic strewn with body parts and described as a “slaughterhouse.” It’s big news in Philadelphia, but nationally, not so much. The lack of coverage is a problem for a growing chorus of conservative and media critics, who allege that the scant national media attention can be attributed not to the courtroom drama but the politics of abortion. Dr. Kermit Gosnell was an abortionist, meaning that any coverage of the trial risks painting

Harry Reid announced today that there will likely be a gun vote on Thursday. "Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) likely has the votes on gun control legislation to clear its first procedural hurdle -- a victory for the gun control community, though one that hardly guarantees the bill´s passage," reports the Huffington Post. "The majority leader announced on Tuesday evening he would submit for a vote the bill to expand background checks, implement a federal trafficking statute, and enhance school safety measures. That would set up a Senate vote on Thursday." The Huffington Post suggests Reid has the support he needs:

The Web headline on their story about President Obama´s antigun speech yesterday in Hartford, Conn., reads: "Obama on Gun Debate: ´This Isn´t About Me.´ " That reminded someone on Twitter of the same network´s headline from July 20, 2009: "Obama on Health Care: ´This Isn´t About Me.´ " Try to imagine how soul-ravishingly tedious an Obama speech would be if it were about him. WASHINGTON — Several Senate Republicans on Tuesday came out publicly against filibustering the first major gun control legislation since 1993 before it is even brought up for debate on the Senate floor, as advocates inched toward breaking a conservative blockade of the measure. With backers of new gun safety laws increasingly optimistic that they can corral the 60 votes necessary to begin consideration of the measure, Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the majority leader, said he would schedule a showdown vote for Thursday. His comments came as lobbying on gun control stepped up on Capitol Hill,

By whom and how that was accomplished presumably will be the subject of a criminal investigation.”

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it.
