As sequester looms, House, Senate
vote to recess for the week

The Hill [Washington, DC], by Pete Kasperowicz

Original Article

The House and Senate each voted Friday to recess for the Presidents Day week, which means lawmakers will have just four days — once they return — to deal with the $85 billion sequester due to take effect March 1. House Republicans have said they will not act on any bill to avoid the sequester until the Senate does first. Senate Democrats have proposed a bill to replace the sequester with a plan that shifts and reduces the planned cuts, and includes new tax increases. But with the Senate out,

My favorite example is John Kerry who chaired the committee that created the Sequester and voted with the Senate in a unanimous vote for passage and then voted for the amended version from the House. So you could say he voted for it twice before he opposed it.

Uh-oh. Mischief ahead! The repubs shouldn´t be taking recess. Instead they should rotate in and out and keep the battlements manned.

85 Billion / $3.803 Trillion = 2.2%

They´re arguing about less than 2.5% !!!

Knowing the numbers, helps cut through the BS.

The pitifully goofy notion of addressing racism — somehow — by bringing back the separate-but-equal doctrine keeps popping up at colleges and universities. The latest incident occurred last week at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia, Wash., reports Seattle-area NBC affiliate KING-TV. Staffers in the Diversity and Equity Center sent an invitation to all 300 employees of the taxpayer-funded school concerning a happy hour intended to “build support and community” for “people of color.” The invitation stated in no uncertain terms that white people could not attend. It instructed recipients with the right skin colors to reply seeking the

Season two of VICE begins tonight on HBO and to mark the occasion, VICE Media co-founder Shane Smith shared some harsh words about traditional cable news with the New York Daily News. “CNN is a disaster. It’s spiraling into s***,” he said in an interview. “They are trying to young it down, but everything they do is a f*****g disaster. But what’s bad for CNN is good for me.” That’s because Vice is trying to move into the territory that has been historically dominated by TV networks like CNN. President Obama met with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus in the Oval Office last night to discuss how to move forward on immigration reform, with one caucus member saying afterward that their pleas for executive action were heard. The meeting came after Obama threatened to veto two bills that passed in the House – the ENFORCE the Law Act of 2014, which puts in place a procedure that would expedite the ability of Congress to sue the executive branch for failure to faithfully execute the laws, and the Faithful Execution of the Law Act of 2014, which expands the number

CIA director John Brennan is at it again—equivocating over the nature of jihad by evoking paradigms familiar to the West. Last Tuesday, “during an event at the Council of Foreign Relations, Brennan was asked about the ‘war of ideas’ surrounding Islam, which the questioner said many Americans tend to equate with violence.” The CIA chief responded by saying that al-Qaeda’s ideology is “a perverse and very corrupt interpretation of the Qur’an”; that “al-Qaeda has hijacked” Islam; that “they have really distorted the teachings of Muhammad.” Even so, “that ideology, that agenda of al-Qaeda,” confirmed Brennan, “has gained resonance and following in many

At a City Council hearing packed to the balcony benches with immigrant-rights groups, Resnick said Mayor Nutter would soon sign an executive order barring police and prison officials from honoring immigration detainers except when a suspect in custody was previously convicted of a violent felony and ICE obtained a warrant to support the detainer request. Fertility is the missing chapter in sex education. Sobering facts about women’s declining fertility after their 20s are being withheld from ambitious young women, who are propelled along a career track devised for men. The refusal by public schools’ sex-education programs to acknowledge gender differences is betraying both boys and girls. The genders should be separated for sex counseling. It is absurd to avoid the harsh reality that boys have less to lose from casual serial sex than do girls, who risk pregnancy and whose future fertility can be compromised by disease. Boys need lessons in basic ethics and moral reasoning
