For the last several weeks, as you are no doubt aware, the Washington Free Beacon and other news outlets—most of them conservative—have been investigating secretary of defense nominee Chuck Hagel’s positions, finances, associations, career history, and utterances. Which seems to us to be precisely what you would expect an intrepid and creative and entrepreneurial press to do when the president of the United States nominates a controversial former senator to one of the most important cabinet posts in the land. Apparently, though, and without our knowing it, you and I have passed through an inter-dimensional portal and have entered
Good article. Glad they stood-up to them and held their ground.
Looks like someone finally told the ADC the law and the need to comply.
The liberal/progressive party is trying hard to convince people they are the majority opinion in this country when they aren´t. However, they are working hard to destroy anyone who has a contrary opinion, and use the term racist or bigot.
It´s a verbal form of tyranny if you think about it.
Since Watergate, the Journalism profession has drawn want-a-be revolutionaries who are wary about violence. (Those who couldn´t write but did possess that rare talent of being able to beg other people for money, became politicians.) Their mission is always to bring down "the man". However, they perceive and revere Barrack Obama to still be a dissenter and not the Head of State. He has convinced them that he somehow levitates above, and in judgement of, the government. To their shame, they allow the rest of the administration to carry on with their high crimes and misdemeanors. While many journalists have fought and died to keep the press free and honest, this current crop is happily providing cover for tyrants.
The corruption of the US media was a gradual affair. McCarthy hearings, VietNam, Fake but Accurate being mile posts along the way. But if a single event is to be isolated as a watershed, it is Walter Kronkite, putting on a helmet and climbing on to the balcony of the Belvedere Hotel in Saigon after the Tet offensive and declaring that the war is lost. Something (we now realize)he knew to be patently false.
I am grateful for investigative reporting and admire the patience of the reporters. Like #8, I did wonder what the outcome was. Apparently the organization reviewed the tape and said that there was nothing of substance there. They have since been told they must comply and will grudgingly send the tape. Sometime in the next week, we´ll indeed learn what was there.
I have believed for a long time that the only way back for the right is to concentrate all effort on taking down the corrupt media. That means every conservative organization, news outlets, Tea Party, everyone. Push the issue of the corrupt leftwing media. If we don´t do this we are all done. They are getting more brazen each day. There has to be a way to stop this.
Interesting article, but I find one of Continetti´s assertions a little baffling: I.e., he says that the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee´s IRS Form 990 isn´t available online.
I happen to do some charity watchdog work, so am familiar with looking up Form 990s online, using a website called the Foundation Center.
This is URL goes to the page that lists 990s for both the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, and that organizations´s "research" arm: http://990finder.foundationcenter.org/990results.aspx?990_type=&fn=american+arab+anti&st=&zp=&ei=&fy=&action=Find
The most recent Form 990s for these two "American-Arab Anti-Discrimination" groups -that were available on the Foundation Center´s website- were their filings for the year 2010.
This is what happens when real journalists meet the stenographers and scrivners that comprise the Washington puppy dogs that protect the liberal power structure. Denigration, cries of "racism", attributions of "mean-spirited" action. There are house organs these left-wingers go to and Politico and Buzzfeed are the front lines, followed by the WaPo then NYT (if they haven´t snuffed out the true journalists by then). Don´t worry-Andrew Breitbart lives!
While Republican Party leaders and Behind The Scenes Movers/Shakers diddled Wall Street, the gold course, flew around the world making deals and ignoring us ... they ALLOWED the Left to swarm over the battlefield uncontested.
That´s the lesson here. Poor Matthew is barking into a typhoon.
The Left has every media outlet, all the Politicians and every hate group on their side because the Left knows how to siphon $$$ off us and redistribute the money.
IT matters little if Menendez, Rice and Hagel get sacked. The Left has Replacement Clones already lined up, ten deep. Knock down as many as you want, they´ll keep coming.
YESTERDAY Larry Elder, on his California talk show, said that Hagel believes exactly what Obama believes and no one has made the comparison. Since Obama was elected by the people, why is it hard to understand why Obama chose someone who thinks exactly like him?
If some folks here find it too much trouble to read through to the end of the article (even if it isn´t particularly well written, in their opinion), why should we expect the ordinary low-information voter to show any effort to learn what is really going on in our government, beyond what is reported by the MSM?
"I would rather be governed by Jefferson Davis than be abused by a set of newspaper scribblers who have the impudence of Satan. They come into camp, poke about among the lazy, pick up rumors and publish them as fact."..."I regard them as spies, which in truth, they are."
General William Tecumseh Sherman West Point Class of 1840 (1820-1891)
Apparently the underlying cause of much of Hagel´s problems is that he is exceptionally stupid, even for a Democrat Senator. Add in his funding by anti-Israel forces and apparent anti-semitic world view and you have quite a piece of work.
Not sure of the intent of the comparisons with Sherman and Lincoln´s administration with today´s government and the press. Is it that Obama and his generals are bullying the media so that the federal government can burn down the homes of citizens that demand their Constitutional (10th Amendment) rights?
With all these liars, you´d think the frickin´ so-called conservative Republican party would be as angry as this old Caucasian Veteran clinging to his guns and religion and love for tradition, the Constitution, Freedom, and Old Glory, wouldnt you? Huh?
Hey #30, good post! Dont forget Yahoo, Google, the HuffPo,and all the other INTERNET LIARS who permeate the phony computer "news" on a daily basis, rotting the minds of the idiot low-info numbskulls, the damn liars!
The brazen, combative attitudes of all of these left-wing hyphenated American groups can all trace their origin to the America-hating boob in the White House. The treatment shown these reporters is exactly how the One treats real Americans. They are financed by the American taxpayer, they owe us nothing and they take every opportunity to insult, belittle, flaunt the law and refuse us common courtesy. As #1 says, the payback for all of this assault of the American way will be terrible once we have reached the limit. In Vietnam, it was called the 100 year revenge. The Mafia calls it "a dish served cold." Either way, the tide will turn and there will be a lot of unhappy people within these borders when America finally strikes back.
And #33 - the only reason the ADC comes out and says this kind of stuff is because this White House supports and enables them. Expect further expansion of this crap with an Obamboozler emboldened by re-election!
Hagel may or may not be exceptionally stupid, but the fact is that he was a GOP senator.
As for the press, all you have to remember is that Journo School is about one cut above the College of Education on most college campuses. And Ed school is where the students that can´t hack it in arts & sciences wind up. In other words primo raw material for a cadre of useful idiots, in both instances.
In re #6, I too remember the former Soviet Union news media outlet Pravda. And how the USA used to chide Pravda as such a fake and a fraud. Perhaps it is time we rename the msm to a Soviet Union-esque name.
Chicago Public Schools officials today released maps of routes where security will be provided for the thousands of children going to new schools this year. The so-called "safe passage" routes are designed to smoothly shift students from 47 schools being closed this year to nearby schools. (Click HERE to see maps) Parents have voiced concern about children crossing rival gang territories and passing empty buildings and vacant lots. Some of them have complained that CPS has been late releasing the maps. Training for safe passage workers, originally targeted by CPS for this week, is now set
Speaking with POLITICO this afternoon, CNN’s State of the Union anchor Candy Crowley said that her network’s decision to run a documentary series on the life of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will undoubtedly make “life more difficult” for her and her hard-news colleagues. Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus has been vocal in criticizing CNN and NBC for their respective films about the potential 2016 Democratic presidential candidate, threatening to pull the GOP out of their televised debates for fear of an inherent political bias against the party. Speaking with POLITICO’s Patrick Gavin, Crowley confessed that
President Obama is holding his news conference Friday in an historic room on an historic anniversary. Thirty-nine years ago, in the East Room of the White House, Richard Nixon made his farewell address after resigning the presidency over the Watergate investigation -- a final act for a pivotal figure in American history. That same day, Gerald Ford took the oath of office as the 38th president, a ceremony also held in the East Room. (By the way, this is not an attempt to compare Obama to Nixon and Ford; the anniversary is just a coincidence.)
EAST HAVEN, Conn.- A former Microsoft executive from Seattle and his son are believed to be among the victims of a plane crash that destroyed two homes Friday morning -- and likely killed two children in one of the houses. Bill Henningsgaard, a former vice-president of Microsoft, had his son on board the small plane that crashed near Tweed New Haven Airport and engulfed two houses in flames, according to a report by KOMO 4 news in Seattle, Wash. The report quoted Astoria, Ore., Mayor Willis Van Dusen, who knew the Henningsgaard family.
The National Security Agency, which has been hit by disclosures of classified data by a former contractor, Edward Snowden, said on Thursday it intends to eliminate about 90% of its system administrators, in order to reduce the number of people with access to secret information. General Keith Alexander, the general who is director of the NSA, the US spy agency charged with monitoring foreign electronic communications, told a cybersecurity conference in New York City that automating much of the work would improve security. "What we´re in the process of doing – not fast enough – is reducing our
WASHINGTON –The State Department announced Friday evening that 18 of the 19 U.S. embassies and consulates closed in the Middle East and Africa due to a terrorist threat will reopen on Sunday. The U.S. embassy in Yemen will remain closed “because of ongoing concerns about a threat stream indicating the potential for terrorist attacks emanating from Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula,” the State Department said in a statement. The American consulate in Lahore, Pakistan, which closed yesterday due to a separate threat will also remain closed, the government said. Nineteen outposts had been closed to the public
What is a “scapegoat”? “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek has clarified a controversial decision on the long-running game show that sparked angry responses last week. Trebek became the unlikely target of scorn after a controversial decision regarding a final Jeopardy answer from Thomas Hurley, a Newtown, Conn., eighth-grader who was participating in the show’s Kids Week competition. Hurley and his fellow contestants were asked to name the 1863 document Abraham Lincoln said was a "fit and necessary war measure.´´ The answer – or question, rather – was the Emancipation Proclamation.
President Barack Obama held a rare press conference on Friday afternoon in the East Room of the White House, and was treated to all-too-common deference by the White House Press Corps. Only Ed Henry of Fox News asked a question that challenged the president in any way. The rest asked soft questions that often invited him to take shots at the Republican opposition and repeat talking points he has made repeatedly in recent speeches. President Obama began the press conference with a recapitulation of his efforts to grapple with the task of balancing national security with privacy rights
She may still be wearing her diamond wedding ring but the widow of Apple founder Steve Jobs, who died two years ago, may have found love again as she has now been romantically linked to former Washington DC mayor Adrian Fenty. Laurene Powell Jobs, who was married to the famed tech entrepreneur for 20 years, is said to have bonded with Adrian Fenty over a shared passion for school reform after they met at an education conference in 2011. Their friendship reportedly developed into a romance shortly after Mr Fenty announced he was leaving his wife,
President Barack Obama announced Friday afternoon that the White House will publicly release a summary of the legal authorities through which the National Security Agency conducts its controversial surveillance programs. ´Given the history of abuse by governments,´ he said, it is important to explain how such a program is managed, and - equally important - what it may not do. He described his working relationship with Vladimir Putin as ´candid´ and ´blunt,´ and seemed to dismiss concerns that the Russian president´s body language indicated a lack of willingness to work with the United States.
President Obama and Michelle Obama had a date night Thursday in honor of the president´s birthday. The couple dined at Rasika West End on New Hampshire Avenue, according to a White House pool report. No word on what they ordered at the posh Indian restaurant, although there are plenty of options that would make the first lady, an advocate for healthy eating, happy. Rasika is known for its palak chaat — a crispy spinach appetizer. Obama turned 52 on Sunday. He golfed on Saturday at Andrews Air Force Base and spent Sunday at Camp David.
A majority of voters believe the scandals embroiling the Obama administration are not “phony,” according to a Fox News poll. Voters in the Fox News poll also indicated they thought the controversies should be taken more seriously. For example, 69 percent of voters think the controversy surrounding the National Security Agency surveillance programs should be taken seriously, while 78 percent feel the same about President Obama’s handling of the terrorist attack on the consulate in Benghazi, Libya, last Sept. 11 that killed four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens. The Obama administration has begun arguing that Republicans are
The owner of a shop in Zurich where US talk show host Oprah Winfrey says she encountered racism has called the incident a "misunderstanding". Winfrey, one of the world´s richest women, claimed an assistant refused to serve her in an upmarket handbag shop. She was apparently told one of the bags on display was "too expensive" for her. Shop owner Trudie Gotz told the BBC that Winfrey was "absolutely allowed" to look at the $35,000 (£22,500) bag, which was kept behind a screen. "My salesperson wanted to give her the handbag in her hand. But she didn´t want
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie holds a narrow lead among Republicans for the party’s 2016 presidential nomination, but even more GOP voters say he’s the candidate they least want to see nominated. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that Christie earns 21% support when Republican voters are asked whom they would vote for if the party’s primary in their state were held today. Florida Senator Marco Rubio runs a close second with 18% of the GOP vote, followed by former Florida Governor Jeb Bush at 16% and Kentucky Senator Rand Paul with 15% of the vote.
Barack Obama delivered one gaffe after another in his August 6 interview with Jay Leno, but the networks that usually mock every mistake or slip of the tongue made by Republicans ignored the President´s verbal mishaps. ABC´s Good Morning America, CBS´s This Morning and NBC´s Today show, on Wednesday morning, all bypassed the chance to criticize Obama for: downplaying the threat of terrorism; falsely claiming Vladimir Putin once ran the KGB; placing the Atlantic coast cities of Savannah, Charleston and Jacksonville on the Gulf of Mexico; confusing the Winter Olympics with the Summer Olympics. First up, on the
Ending a war is a good thing. Killing civilians a bad thing. Deliberately targeting civilians is murder, and is never morally licit, even in pursuit of a good thing such as ending a war. The tens of thousands of Japanese non-combatants we killed 68 years ago this week with two nuclear bombs were not “collateral damage” of military strikes. They were the intended targets. We hoped that mass murder would bring the Japanese emperor to surrender. It worked, and American and Japanese soldiers’ lives were probably saved by it —
Last month we learned that Megyn Kelly was leaving her daytime anchor gig to take over a Fox News primetime slot. According to an “exclusive” Drudge Report flash this afternoon, that time slot will be 9 p.m. ET. “Superstar newswoman Megyn Kelly has landed the 9 PM slot, top sources reveal,” the Drudge Report wrote. “The shock announcement is set for later this month.” Fox’s 9 p.m. hour is currently helmed by Sean Hannity, leading to speculation over whether he could be out of a primetime gig. There are many possible outcomes from this lineup change,
Retired 68-year-old US Army general and former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Wesley K. Clark has won yet another esteemed decoration — he is dating 30-year-old Shauna Mei, the founder of online retailer AHAlife.com. Clark, who was married to Gertrude Kingston Clark for 45 years before filing for divorce last year, is spending time with the young New York-based entrepreneur, who graduated from MIT and worked at Goldman Sachs as an investment banker before launching her luxury e-commerce site. Clark and Mei were spotted together recently in the Hamptons,
National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden extended his 15 minutes of fame Wednesday, as headlines tied his saga to President Barack Obama’s decision to cancel a planned summit meeting in Moscow next month with Russian President Vladimir Putin. But analysts said the talk of Snowden’s role in the cancellation obscured a more basic reality: The U.S.-Russia relationship is now so frosty that it didn’t appear the two presidents would actually accomplish enough to merit such a high-profile meeting. After four years, the much-vaunted reset in U.S.-Russian relations has devolved into a chilly standoff over issues like the Kremlin’s support for Syria
Nanny State: If any question remained about the Obama White House´s appetite for running everyone´s life from Washington, it should be settled now. This administration even wants to dictate neighborhood makeup. Like your neighborhood? Don´t get used to it. The Obama Department of Housing and Urban Development might decide it wants to dictate changes. HUD is, according to Fox News, considering "a new rule that would allow the feds to track diversity in America´s neighborhoods and then push policies to change those it deems discriminatory." The proposed rule, disclosed last month by HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan at
In a remarkable admission that is likely to rock the Internal Revenue Service again, testimony released Thursday by House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp reveals that an agent involved in reviewing tax exempt applications from conservative groups told a committee investigator that the agency is still targeting Tea Party groups, three months after the IRS scandal erupted.. In closed door testimony before the House Ways & Means Committee, the unidentified IRS agent said requests for special tax status from Tea Party groups is being forced into a special "secondary screening" because
“IQ is a metric of such dubiousness that almost no serious educational researcher uses it anymore,” the Guardian’s Ana Marie Cox wrote back in May. It was a breathtakingly ignorant statement. Psychologist Jelte Wicherts noted in response that a search for “IQ test” in Google’s academic database yielded more than 10,000 hits — just for the year 2013. (Snip) There is a large discrepancy between what educated laypeople believe about cognitive science and what experts actually know. Journalists are steeped in the lay wisdom, so they are repeatedly surprised when someone forthrightly discusses the real science of mental ability.
You can get a deconstruction of the media at many places. The people who visit the Treehouse want to see the entire context; The entire truth, as it presents. So here we go…. In any endeavor of corruption and misleading governance, the control of, and support by, the media, is an absolute necessity. The USSR needed Pravda to keep the ruse of governance for decades. The need of/by the U.S. government has steadily grown over the course of several progressive decades; but the urgency has increased exponentially over the past five years with the extremes
WASHINGTON—The White House announced that President Barack Obama will award the Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award, to 16 recipients including television star and businesswoman Oprah Winfrey, legendary Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee and former President Bill Clinton. “The Presidential Medal of Freedom goes to men and women who have dedicated their own lives to enriching ours,” Mr. Obama said in a statement released by the White House. “This year’s honorees have been blessed with extraordinary talent, but what sets them apart is their gift for sharing that talent with the world.”
