Pelosi: Congressional Pay Cut
Undermines Dignity of the Job

The Hill, by Mike Lillis

Original Article

Posted By:PaleAle, 2/14/2013 7:36:35 PM

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday that she opposes a cut in congressional pay because it would diminish the dignity of lawmakers´ jobs. "I don´t think we should do it; I think we should respect the work we do," Pelosi told reporters in the Capitol. "I think it´s necessary for us to have the dignity of the job that we have rewarded." The comments were made in the context of the looming sequester, which would force across-the-board cuts affecting most federal offices, including Congress.

Comments:
The resulting "cut in dignity" would thus catapult the Congress into the Negative Dignity column. There is no telling what that may do to their self esteem, or the trouble they may cause with a negative dignity quotient.

If their pay reflected their dignity most congresscritters would owe us money.

Why should the congress be paid for all the dignity while the rest of us have gone through severe pay cuts as a result of the actions of this government? Earn your dignity by making a better life for the Citizens.

Seems she should set an example and accept NO pay. She can well afford it, and would not be a hypocrit about "the wealthy paying their fair share" then.

Dignity? I qualify for welfare... Not on it, yet. I am working multiple jobs to keep my family off welfare.

I do not want government taking care of me. So Nan, tighten your belt like the rest of us...

To put it in terms Nancy would understand, we have to first cut congressional pay to find out if it undermines their dignity.

You have to do a job worthy of respect then be paid accordingly. What I have seen....there should be a massive pay cut until people take what they were elected to do...seriously. Disgusting performance.

She is paid by the taxpayers. In most places (except some union jobs), if you don´t do your job you lose it. She isn´t doing her job and neither are the rest of them. The talk of a congressional pay cut meant they would get paid when the work was done so they wouldn´t lose a penny. For the common people, if you don´t do your work and don´t get paid you don´t collect it later. You have lost it for good. These people make me sick.

she and her husband are reportedly worth millions, maybe even billions. With this one statement she seriously blew ANY dignity she might have ever had which is doubtful to begin with. She wears designer suits, expensive jewelery ( all those pearls are NOT COSTUME JEWELERY!) She and hubby have homes on both coasts and probably in D.C., too. Oh, and let´s not forget the Botox and plastic surgery that is so obvious.

She´s talking about a pay cut and dignity?!? Sheesh . . . why not talk about a BUDGET?!?

THIS is what Speaker Boehner should be out there responding to!!!!! "It´s unfortunate that the Democrats do not think we should be setting the example and give ourselves a pay cut. After all, Ms. Pelosi joins many of us here on the Hill who would never miss it as we are well off. When the American people see their elected leaders walking the walk instead of just talking the talk, perhaps Congress´ approval ratings would rise from the ash heap!"
See John? It Isn ´t hard at all. DO. IT.

She joins the rest of congress with a single digit approval rating. There´s no dignity in being despised by 90+% of your fellow citizens!

Nearly a year before signing the nation´s most stringent gun control measure into law, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo launched a hotline that allows state residents to report illegal gun owners in exchange for a $500 reward. New Yorkers can call the "Gun Tip Line" if they believe someone they know has an illegal gun. “This initiative seeks to turn neighbor against neighbor and use their own tax dollars to pay for the $500 reward,” Republican Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin told the station.

Michelle Obama has admitted that she is already tired of the bangs she first sported in January. The First Lady said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: ´Bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Los Angeles — Some people have had it with TV. They´ve had enough of the 100-plus channel universe. They don´t like timing their lives around network show schedules. They´re tired of $100-plus monthly bills. A growing number of them have stopped paying for cable and satellite TV service, and don´t even use an antenna to get free signals over the air. Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
