I laughed so hard on day one of the coverage when the nitwit reporter dude said that on top of all the carnage and devestation wrought by the power outage on board, the ship could expect "six foot seas!" He said this as if the thousand foot sixteen story ship would be lurching about... tooooo stupid. But then the entire moronic coverage would be excessive if this was the Titanic.

I am amazed at how one of the Mothers FOX interviewed was saying how ridiculous the offer of the cruise ship line to refund, another cruise, airfare and $500 was laughable and insulting. Exactly what is the cruise ship line supposed to do. Yeah it´s a mess, nasty and dirty but some that have been on the phone said that the crew was doing the best they could. Why can´t people take things in stride, not everything is going to go perfectly and this is a case where it is a mess but to constantly bad mouth and expect outrageous settlements is a bit much, I don´t think the cruise line wanted this to happen.

Of course Carnival didn´t want this to happen. But they took a risk, sent the ship out again, and lost. This ship had been having engine problems for weeks. Rather than cancel a few weeks´ cruises to fix it they sent it out again with 4000 more people on it. When does not doing proper maintanence become negligence?

How did people manage for millenia without running water and toilets? Sure, I would be annoyed if something awful happened on my vacation. But you make the best of things and know things will get better. Kind of like when your air conditioner goes out in August. A hundred years ago, you had to put on a brave face and wait for cooler weather. Now, you know that the repairman will get there sooner or later.

Every one of those cabins is equipped with ice buckets. In a pinch, these can become intangible chamber pots, whether up on deck under your "tent" or in a balcony room. Fill it and then empty it over the rail.
Sorry, earth nazis, but fish poop in the ocean too and human waste is organic. No way would I be slogging through something that nasty. That´s just inviting disease, especially if you have the slightest open wound anywhere on your body.

Over the weekend, the Saddleback Valley Community Church announced the sad news that Pastor Rick Warren‘s youngest son, Matthew, committed suicide at the age of 27, after a long struggle with mental illness. On Monday, Megyn Kelly‘s panel took on some of the “despicable” reaction that followed — questioning why the pastor isn’t afforded basic compassion by some of his critics. Noting the “shocking” and “disgusting” vitriol directed at the pastor following the news, Kelly declined to “give a voice to the haters.” Father Jonathan Morris, a Fox News contributor, agreed, deeming the attacks “ridiculous,” “tasteless,” and simply “very sad.”

WASHINGTON — The North Korean army warned the United States on Wednesday it has been cleared to wage nuclear war using “smaller, lighter and diversified weapons.” In a speech earlier in the day, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel noted that North Korea has both the nuclear weapons and the delivery system “now.” It’s the latest round in an escalation of rhetoric and actions that began with a North Korean nuclear test in February. Still, military officials and experts don’t expect North Korea to launch an attack on the United States.

Two breaking news alerts came through the wire this afternoon: First, the AP sent word that Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel has called North Korea´s latest rhetoric a real, clear danger and threat to the U.S. and its allies. Within minutes, CNBC announced that the Pentagon has sent a new missile defense to Guam. The reports that followed those alerts added some meat to the storty -- "Hagel´s comments come as tensions continue to rise between North and South Korea," etc. -- but they are notably lacking in context. How serious is the threat, really? Are the North and South on the verge of war, or is this yet another bluff?

In a bizarre new twist to the saga of Sen. Bob Menendez and his donor-friend Salomon Melgen, members of Melgen’s circle are now hurling accusations at FBI agents investigating the pair’s relationship. During an appearance on the weekly Dominican TV show La Respuesta last week, Melgen’s uncle Vincho Castillo accused the FBI of threatening and kidnapping two of Melgen’s maids. In addition to being the Dominican Republic’s top drug cop and founder of a far right-wing political party, Vincho Castillo is also the father of Vinicito Castillo, a lawyer who allegedly participated in sex parties organized by Melgen.

My nephew’s high school government class is studying propaganda, a word most students associated with Hitler, Goebbels, and the like. “I deal with propagandists every day,” I told the class in the Detroit area last week. “They work in the White House and in Congress--Republicans and Democrats alike.” The kids were a bit surprised. “Are you calling them Nazis?” one asked. Of course not, I replied, but politicians today are using new communications tools to spread their version of the truth, much of it misleading. A smart piece by Nancy Benac of the Associated Press describes how the Obama White House “image machine” works--“serving up a stream of words, images, and videos that invariably cast the president as commanding, compassionate, and on the ball.

North Korea’s young leader Kim Jong-un is waiting for United States President Barack Obama to make a phone call to Pyongyang to discuss easing tensions on the Korean peninsula, according to Russia’s news agency Itar-Tass. The report cited United Kingdom diplomats, saying Pyongyang was demanding the U.S. president personally call Kim Jong-un as one of the conditions to relieve the current conflict at hand. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”
