| Boys and girls at a Massachusetts elementary school have been banned from bringing Valentine’s Day candy or cards over cultural equality issues and federal guidelines regulating candy. (Snip) Parents of students at Salemwood Elementary School in Malden, Mass, received a letter informing them of the policy – that impacts not just Valentine’s Day – but all holidays. “We have many different nationalities, cultures and languages spoken,” Principal Carol Keenan told Fox News. “Because of that we don’t honor specific holidays.” Keenan said she did not want some students feeling left out.

Comments: Oh puhleeze! The political correctness that now permeates our society is outrageous and ridiculous. We certainly wouldn´t want a holiday in the USA to interfere with cultural and language equality would we? s/o Good. Grief.

We have multiple cultures represented in my son´s 2nd grade class and they were all so excited this morning about giving out their valentines to their classmates.
Adults can be so stupid.

Why not ban other cultures instead. People who come here, many illegally, not only get benefits they shouldn´t be entitled to but also get our traditions trashed.

Adults get "upset" and the kids don´t even know what you are talking about. "Left out"? No one would be left out. They act like they would be herded into the gym and turn the lights out. All students would be having a party. They would get cards and goodies and probably make a small craft. Valentine´s Day is the perfect holiday to chase the mid winter blues away for a while. I have on a candy red sweater and a striped red and pink top. We gave candy to our student helpers and I have had many students tell me Happy VaLentine´s Day. Many of those students were Burmese and two were from India. They were not feeling left out. I can´t wait until St. Patrick´s Day to see what the nut jobs come up with for that holiday.

Times certainly have changes.
In 1968 I was in forth grade. Everyone brought in treats for the last class before Christmas. That would be the day after the night time school Christmas presentations for the parents, which included songs about baby Jesus.
For Valentines day we brought valentines for who we LIKED. I usually gave one to every person, unless they were a real jerk. Some kids would put a chocolate in with theirs, which was really nice to get.
Twice a year, Mrs. Carl, a wonderful fourth grade teacher, would have a picnic IN HER BACKYARD, about two blocks from the school. We all loved going to her shady tree back yard and having a picnic, which she and a class aid worked hard to put on. Then we went back to school.
No one got sick. No one had issues. It was a nice group thing that she put together to show that she loved her kids. She paid for it all out of pocket.
Hardly anything above is allowed now, but it sure made for nice memories, and the kids when back to school charged up and ready for more learning.
But never mind. The only thing schools seem to tolerate now is the intolerant.

A culture that abandons its own traditions and practices lest newcomers from other cultures feel left out is committing a form of cultural suicide. This is taking hospitality and sensitivity to a self-destructive extreme. It is a manifestation of cultural decline.

#7, you almost jumped the gun on my proposal...
All this would be "Okay" (PC) if it were really "multicultural"...
So put the Valentine´s candy into pinatas and let the kiddies assault and beat the minority ethnic icon (pinata) to obtain the goodies.
Kids need the training and exposure regarding assaults and grabbing stuff (aka stealing)... this is therefore very educational and instructive regarding other cultures we must come to appreciate... all part of the socialization process public schools must perform. See? Si! ....... s/o

I am remembering the ´dark´ planet (but I can´t remember its name) in A Wrinkle In Time, where all the children were playing in the driveways of their all alike houses, bouncing balls or skipping rope, all on the same beat. And the mothers opened the doors of the houses all at the same time and the children all ran into their houses and the doors closed at the same time. All except one. And he was appropriately punished.

For what it´s worth, the population of Malden is: White = 62.94 African-American = 9.67 American Indian/Alaskan = 0.05 Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Viet, Cambodian) = 19.02 Hawaiian/Pacific = 0.09 Hispanic = 6.30 Other = 8.30
Years ago, it was predominantly Italian-American. I don´t think it´s creeping sharia so much as creeping stupidity.

Like No. 8, I remember the grade school Valentine´s party & usually our "room mother" would bring homemade cupcakes or cookies. I think all of the moms & teachers were in agreement that each kid had to give a Valentine to everyone so that nobody was left out of the fun. Later on, my Dad told me a funny story why this was so - it seems that he was such a holy terror in school, that the only Valentine he got was from the teacher! I hate how PC is ruining even these simple, little pleasures for the kids!

Just so you have the background on Malden. Two of the Trade Center planes were flown by terrorists living in Malden. They frequented Gold´s Gym there. The day the towers came down children were dancing in the classroom aisles in my teacher friend´s classroom. They told her they knew about it prior. I bet they gave out candy to their neighbors then as is their custom. Shame on Malden. They have bowed to terrorists and their kids will reap what the school system has sown. My friend retired soon after and teaches out in the sticks now when she feels like it. PC will bring down this country.

I´ve been an Ldotter for a long time, so I hate to contradict, but Valentine´s day is based upon ancient PAGAN rituals that promote atheism and sexual promiscuity. My children are not allowed to participate in this event. We spend this in prayer and quiet contemplation. Good for that school attempting to end this satanic foolishness that makes God angry.

Saint Valentine was a Christian Martyr who died on February 14.
Whatever the pagans were doing that day doesn´t matter.
Why let non-believers dictate what days the Church decides to celebrate. If that is the case there can be no celebrations since every day of the week and month of the year is named after a pagan deity or reference.

#28, that is ghastly (about the students dancing in the aisles on 9-11), but it also happened in some communities in New York and New Jersey, too, so I believe it.
A local school district here doesn´t allow the kids to celebrate ST. Valentine´s Day, because it is a religious holiday. Our school district´s calendar is so devoid of holiday references as to be useless for use as a general calendar.

I don´t have kids, but I have a stake in the future and therefore support quality education. We are paying top dollar for kids to be indoctrinated with leftist crap. In the weeks after 9/11 there were numerous stories floating around the Internet of school children dancing in the aisles and proclaiming they knew all about the attack before it happened. If this had actually occurred in Malden, I´d have known about it. Think for a minute. If thousand of little kids, nationwide, knew about the attacks, beforehand, do you think they were all capable of keeping such a secret?

#39, somebody has been giving you bad information. Saint Valentine is a widely recognized third century Roman saint commemorated on February 14. Also, pagans do not promote atheism. They believe in gods--not "without god". Additionally, Satan is a Christian symbol--not pagan, not Jewish, not Hindu, not any other religion. Pagans do not believe in Satan or "satanic rituals". Finally, not all pagan religions believe in sexual promiscuity. There are many different pagan beliefs. Some are very close to Christianity.

The decision by U.S. District Court Judge Edward Korman on Wednesday means that Plan B One-Step, a popular brand of emergency contraception, will soon be available over-the-counter along with its generic counterparts. As Congress and the White House pasted together and passed the so-called Patriot Act in the aftermath of the 2001 attack on the New York World Trade Center, a few conservatives raised questions about the degree to which the nation seemed ready “to trade liberty for security.” Those questions fell on deaf ears as leaders of both parties concluded that a level of government intrusion and “more flexible” interpretations of the Constitution’s civil liberties protections were in order. Those of us who questioned the wisdom of giving those charged with protecting us all the power they requested and

The incident ended in the deaths of two pregnant women and two men last year, after Honduran national police opened fire from a State Department-owned helicopter on a small boat. Honduran police said drugs were involved, but locals said the boat was full of fishermen. The killings were referenced in a whistleblower memo obtained by The Post.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper is really struggling to explain why he told Congress in March (see video above) that the National Security Agency does not intentionally collect any kind of data on millions of Americans. His latest take: It´s an unfair question, he said, like "When are you going to stop beating your wife?" And it seems to depend on the meaning of "collect." "I responded in what I thought was the most truthful, or least untruthful, manner by saying ´no,´" Clapper told NBC News on Sunday.

President Barack Obama said Tuesday that America “owes” it to certain illegal aliens to pass legislation providing a “pathway to citizenship.” “We owe it to America to do better,” Obama said in the East Room of the White House. “We owe it to the Dreamers to do better.” Obama then went on to cite several young people in the audience. Obama and supporters of the immigration reform legislation have called people who were taken into the United States illegally by their parents “dreamers.” Democrats previously supported the DREAM Act that would allow illegals who attend college or

The Obama administration is considering resettling thousands of refugees who left Syria during the country´s ongoing civil war to multiple towns and cities across the United States, the L.A. Times reports. A resettlement plan under discussion in Washington and other capitals is aimed at relieving pressure on Middle Eastern countries straining to support 1.6 million refugees, as well as assisting hard-hit Syrian families. (Snip) U.N. refugee officials, along with diplomats and non-governmental relief groups, are scheduled to meet in Geneva this week to discuss potential resettlement plans. Germany has already agreed to take 5,000 refugees.

Senator Barbara Boxer celebrated the rekindling of talks about gun-control legislation after a shooting at Santa Monica College last Friday. “Every single time something like this happens, I think this does give us wind at our back,” Boxer said on MSNBC over the weekend. On Friday, a gunman opened fire on the school’s campus in the state of California, killing six people, including the gunman. She said she does “worry about” the failure of the legislation after the Sandy Hook shooting last year, but knows that gun-control supporters “never give up.”

In a Gallup tracking poll released Tuesday, former-President George W. Bush currently stands with a favorability rating of 49%, compared to 46% who see the 43rd president unfavorably. Meanwhile, another Gallup poll shows President Obama with only a 47% approval rating, with 44% disapproving. If you think about it, this makes perfect sense. After all, Obama fooled everyone when he ran as the anti-Bush in 2008. Everyone thought Obama meant he would be less hawkish than his predecessor. But as we have seen, Obama apparently has no problem killing American citizens

The Obama administration was facing renewed pressure over the secrecy of its surveillance programs, as a group of US senators demanded it reveal how it interprets the laws that underpin them and foreign governments expressed growing concern. A bill, to be introduced in the Senate on Tuesday, would force the US government to disclose the opinions of a secretive surveillance court that determines the scope of the eavesdropping on Americans´ phone records and internet communications. Separately, a leading member of the Senate intelligence committee came close to saying that James Clapper,

In his prepared text for a speech he is delivering today at the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference and Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, Sen. Rand Paul (R.-Ky.) said to illegal aliens who want to live and work in the United States: “[W]e will find a place for you.” Paul also said he envisions today’s illegal aliens becoming additional “taxpayers.” “Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers,” said Paul. Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) said Wednesday that the incidence of pregnancy caused by rape is "very low," prompting criticism from Democrats who said the GOP is waging a "war on women." Franks made the comment during a committee mark-up of his late-term abortion ban bill, which is expected pass the House next week. The Republican lawmaker was arguing against a Democratic amendment allowing rape and incest victims to procure abortions. As written, the bill only exempts women whose lives are in danger. "You know, the incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low," Franks said.

Like a lot of people, I felt reassured earlier this year when President Obama spoke of the need to combat climate change for the sake of our children. The president demonstrated leadership that night in that State of the Union address by making it clear that he doesn´t see extreme heat waves, powerful storms like Hurricane Sandy, the most severe drought in decades and the worst wildfires ever in some states as just weird coincidences. He demonstrated leadership by calling out Congress, saying if it doesn´t act soon, he will take executive

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) made history Tuesday, becoming the first senator of the modern era to deliver a Senate floor speech entirely in Spanish as he explained his support for a bipartisan immigration bill up for consideration. Over the course of a 14-minute speech, Kaine said he wanted to use the Spanish-speaking skills he learned working in Honduras in order to explain aspects of the bill to the roughly 40 million Spanish speakers living in the United States. “El senado ha comenzado un debate histórico sobre una reforma migratoria comprensiva,” Kaine said at the start of his remarks.
