Poor man had no choice: Sen. Marco Rubio had to be deceptive when describing his immigration plans last night–otherwise he’d have little chance of making the sale. Here’s what Rubio said: We need a responsible, permanent solution to the problem of those who are here illegally. But first, we must follow through on the broken promises of the past to secure our borders and enforce our laws. This makes it sound as if Rubio would take action to “secure our borders and enforce our laws” before offering to legalize “those who are here illegally.”
Comments: I´m so sorry to see this about Rubio. I guess it was too much to ask for in thinking he would be any different than a typical politician in Washington. He is one of the most articulate Republicans I have seen, but his coziness with the deceitful, corrupt Democrats will take us down a road this country can´t survive.
Not surprised! He thinks this will elevate him to acquiring the illegals votes--maybe not so much for him on top of the ticket but for Jeb B. to top a ticket with him as VP.
Reading what some of his constituents have said (most certain opposition research has already been done on him and this is why the media and Dems are reacting to him--building up his profile) makes one easily see the "RINO" strain showing on his backside. He has had financial problems---back when Speaker of the House in FL of using issued credit cards (may have reimbursed for charges), personal financial problems among other things. He would fit the Rove model quite well!
Alicia, Marco, or Geraldo .. what´s with some Hispanics (wither Puerto Rican, Cuban, Mexican or other family backgrounds) who place their ethnic concerns over those of the nation? Marco and Alicia are good people, but I reserve the right and will exercise my right to disagree with them on this subject and to point out their obvious conflict of interest.
We have a proper immigration path. If it needs fixing - fix it. If the borders need securing - secure them. This is especially true for a nation that is (or was) an island of liberty in a sea of 7-billion or so, most of whom are "subjects".
"A nation without borders is not a nation" - Ronald Reagan
And he continues to carry the lie that it is an immigration and border busting problem. It´s an illegal employment problem. Dry up the illegal employment, you dry up the illegal immigration problem. The only solution is to issue work grant cards- 30 days, you get in, as a registered illegal worker, find an employer to sign the card, you get to stay and pay taxes on your earnings like everyone else, and get workmens comp protections like everyone else. I have no problems with that. I´d even allow them to take Driver´s license testing and get a DL- with "Foreign Worker" stamped across it, so they can be on the highway legally and get insurance.
But, the sad fact is, employers love these little low paid slaves from Mexico. The working peasant class is a beautiful thing when most Americans would rather sit at home and collect unemployment wages.
Oh brother. here we go. Calling Alicia and Rubio down for putting their ethnic background before country is an idiotic comment. If you paid attention to what they are saying you´d know that they are trying to save America and return it to what it was before. They are born and bred Americans who may look different than you but are just as patriotic as you think you are. They both want border security First and are not at all like Geraldo.
There are three levels of amnesty that the Republicans could cave on to allow the liberal Democrats to loudly claim that they passed comprehensive immigration reform.
The Republicans could go along with giving longtime illegal aliens an indefinite conditional or probationary immigration status that would allow them to stay, work, and to travel internationally. Once in that status the aliens would have to qualify for an immigrant visa, as all legal immigrants must do, to be granted Permanent resident status. That´s what going to the back of the line should mean.
The Republicans could go along with immediately granting most illegal aliens permanent resident (green card) status. They could then bring their close foreign family members to the USA and in five years apply for US citizenship.
Or the Republicans could just go along to get along with the liberal Democrats and grant most illegal aliens US citizenship and US voting rights.
The Republicans should go with the conditional or probationary immigration status option, and make sure that the only way that those legalized aliens can become permanent residents is that they first qualify for an immigrant visa. That would stop most legalized aliens from being granted US voting rights all at the same time.
If the Republicans did that, most illegal aliens being given conditional or probationary immigration status would be happy as they could stay here and work legally. However the Democrats would not be happy, as they are looking forward to a mass of 10 million or so new Democrat voters coming on line quickly as the result of 11-20 million illegal aliens being granted US voting rights.
What this article describes is the truth about Rubio, the gang of 8, amnesty... ALL of it.
The amnesty would immediately take effect, save for obfuscation through semantics, and if you are naive enough to think that Rubio himself is naive, and being led against his will by the rest of the gang of 8, you need to wise up and think.
The ones here, pushing, pushing, pushing for amnesty, (their name-calling and attempts at bullying and isolating what has OBVIOUSLY become the majority notwithstanding), have a very difficult, no, IMPOSSIBLE time of pulling enlightened voters back under their lying party´s umbrella, and are beside themselves with ire, while they try to convince right-minded people that they are wrong.
Attempting to present Rubio´s, and therefore, the gang of 8´s amnesty (remember who the gang of 8 is), as a plan that will require securing the borders PRIOR to amnesty being granted, are lying through their teeth, and they know it.
Now they think they have a new weapon to use against the right-minded among us - Alicia Colon´s article today.
Sorry guys, but I believe we´ve already shot down that foolishness.
#3, the constitution bars a veep pick from the same state as the prez nominee. Jebster and Rubio are both from Florida.
Remember how Cheney went back to Wyoming and re-established his legal residency there in order to be Dubya´s veep pick? That´s because as an oil exec Cheney was living in Texas. He and Dubya could not be officially from the same state. Recall that Cheney started out as a Wyoming congressman, so his move back was legit.
Jebster and Rubester are both elected officials statewide in Florida and cannot pretend to be from some other state. (Jebster the ex-gov, of course.) So there is no getting around it if someone is honest and not a con artist.
Rubio is good at PR up to a point. But he has already been tainted by being co-opted by Schumer and McCain and aligning for amnesty. Amnesty and Rubio may both already be... DOA. Besides, is Rubio a natural born citizen? Apparently not.
#8 it is not possible to reason with one issue voters. The problem is their very easily manipulated by the the other side and the press. The problem is our side has one issue voters on many different issues, therefore we never get behind any candidate.#3 it´s nice you believe everything Charlie Crist says. We are not called the stupid party for nothing.
More than a year after the Benghazi terrorist attack that led to the murder of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, and three other Americans, there will be a public airing of the review process that was intended to quell all questions about U.S. government failings that could have led to the massacre. Instead, serious questions remain unanswered. The House Oversight and Government Affairs Committee hearing this Thursday, September 19, will feature Amb. Thomas Pickering and Adm. Thomas Mullen, who headed the Accountability Review Board (ARB), which was convened by then Secretary Hillary Clinton to determine the adequacy of security, availability of intelligence,
The Syria researcher whose Wall Street Journal op-piece was cited by Secretary of State John Kerry and Sen. John McCain during congressional hearings about the use of force has been fired from the Institute for the Study of War for lying about having a Ph.D., the group announced on Wednesday. “The Institute for the Study of War has learned and confirmed that, contrary to her representations, Ms. Elizabeth O’Bagy does not in fact have a Ph.D. degree from Georgetown University,” the institute said in a statement. “ISW has accordingly terminated Ms. O’Bagy’s employment, effective immediately." O’Bagy told POLITICO’s Kate Brannen in
The escalting war between MSNBC’s Al Sharpton and Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly took an unexpected turn last night when O’Reilly revealed that he had donated $25,000 to Sharpton’s charity to help pay for Christmas gifts and dinner for underprivileged families in Harlem. Earlier today, Sharpton offered some choice words for O’Reilly in an interview, but this afternoon on his show he really let the Fox host have it. Sharpton pointed that like O’Reilly, he never mentioned the donation until now. “Bill doesn’t realize it, but this story actually reveals what kind of person he is… Bill gave that money privately
Fox TV Studios has pulled out of talks to produce a 4-hour-long NBC miniseries about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The two sides had previously been in contact over producing Hillary, starring Diane Lane as the eponymous politician. But Deadline reported this afternoon that “with the two sides far apart, and were never able to bridge the gap on the deal terms.” “The economics of TV movies and miniseries are challenging, which is why very few production companies take on such programs these days,” explained Deadline. “That includes NBC’s own studio, Universal TV, which would not produce NBC’s longform projects, including
It’s clear by now that if conservatives are ever going to even begin to roll back the overt, ongoing and worsening lawlessness of the Obama administration, they’re going to have to go over, through, or around the Republican party first. The GOP “leadership,” as presently constituted, is nothing more than the lesser half of the Permanent Bipartisan Fusion Government, content to munch its cud and occasionally low in the direction of constitutional propriety, and then resume its own modest but lucrative role in fertilizing the “two-party” system. As evidence, consider Bob Costa’s piece today on Senator Ted Cruz, and the
Speaking Thursday at a joint appearance with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Secretary of State John Kerry admitted that there were “many al Qaeda leaders now operating in Syria”—where President Barack Obama decided two months ago to provide military support to rebel forces fighting alongside al Qaeda to overthrow the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Asad. Asad is a member of the Alawite sect, which is a derivative of Shiite Islam; the Syrian rebels are predominantly Sunni, and al Qaeda is Sunni. According to the CIA, Assad’s Alawite sect represents no more than 16 percent of the Syrian population, while 74 percent
Egypt´s president on Friday suggested US President Barack Obama´s condemnation of a deadly crackdown on Islamists may "encourage violent armed groups". "The presidency fears statements not based on facts may encourage violent armed groups," it said in a statement responding to Obama´s condemnation of Wednesday´s carnage when police moved to disperse Islamist protest camps. "The presidency appreciates US concern for developments in Egypt, but it wished it could have clarified matters," said the statement published by the official MENA news agency. "Egypt is facing terrorist acts aimed at government institutions and vital installations," the statement said.
The Washington Post´s article detailing the fourth amendment abuses by the NSA got some push back from the administration who attempted to "edit" the article before publication. The internal audit referenced in the article was obtained by the WaPo from Edward Snowden. The details of the audit indicated repeated and growing privacy violations by the NSA, violations which included obtaining thousands of American citizen´s communications records and using methods of information collection that were later deemed unconstitutional by a court. The Post was able to interview John Delong, NSA director of compliance for the article and they were initially
There´s much talk about Chris Christie as the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016 (yes, already). Christie is certainly gearing up for a run, and has begun by attacking potential GOP rivals. But while moderate Republicans like Christie for 2016, he is their version of what Rick Perry was for conservatives in the 2012 race: a locally successful governor whose attributes will not stand up well on the national stage. Perry had much to recommend him as a national contender: staunch conservatism on most policy issues, and an economic record that even liberals would find attractive. But his Texas
Hillary Clinton has worked her way back in the news by making racially-charged remarks to the American Bar Association’s annual meeting in San Francisco. There is, she claimed, an ongoing “assault on voting rights.” But the only “assault” going on is a liberal assault on the truth about efforts to protect the integrity of our election process. Clinton’s polemic claims fit nicely within a calculated political strategy adopted late last year. At a December meeting in Washington, D.C., three dozen of the most powerful liberal advocacy groups providing money and manpower for Democratic candidates hammered out three agreed-upon objectives for

President Obama has tried to defend his health care plan lately by criticizing Republicans for trying to roll back ObamaCare without offering any alternatives -- despite the fact that Republicans have offered several. In a White House news conference a week ago, the president said: "They used to say, ´well, we´re going to replace it with something better.´ There´s not even a pretense now that they´re going to replace it with something better." Moments later, Obama elaborated, saying "they used to say they had a replacement. That never actually arrived, right? I mean, I´ve been hearing about this whole replacement thing for
Get ready for Chelsea Clinton Bump Watch 2014 — the only daughter of the former president and former secretary of State is declaring next year the “Year of the Baby.” In an interview for the November issue of Glamour magazine on her work with the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation, Clinton reveals that she and husband Marc Mezvinsky are planning for a bouncing addition to their household. According to the 33-year-old Oxford grad, the pair, who married in 2010, sat down together a year after tying the knot and made a list focused on their future, saying, “We want,
On Tuesday evening, left-wing Politico ran a headline story encapsulating the theme of the day: “Government closed, Obamacare falters.” That message marked a massive loss for the Obama administration, which has claimed that Obamacare’s implementation could not be delayed, and used that rationale as an excuse to reject the House’s proposal for a one-year delay in favor of a government shutdown. The narrative began to shift early in the morning on Tuesday, when the Drudge Report ran a lead piece on the Obamacare health exchanges coming up with error messages for users across the country. “OBAMACRASH,” Drudge headlined. He followed
President Obama told CNBC’s John Harwood that while he’s been president, he’s “bent over backwards to work with the Republican party.” Obama boasted: During the course of my presidency, I have bent over backwards to work with the Republican party. I think I’m pretty well known for being a calm guy. Sometimes people think I’m too calm. And am I exasperated? Absolutely, I’m exasperated. Because this is entirely unnecessary. I am exasperated with the idea that, unless I say that, ‘Twenty million people, you can’t have health insurance,’ these folks will not reopen the government. That is irresponsible. The President asserted that he’s
DALLAS —In a shopping center parking lot 1,300 miles from Washington’s bureaucracy and bickering, teen mom Karina Luciano loaded a watermelon and baby formula into her car. Luciano didn’t realize the federal assistance program that just purchased the food items for her children, Aimee, 2, and Jaiden, 11 months, is now in jeopardy because of the government shutdown. “Oh my god, I think I’m going to cry,” Luciano said upon learning the news. “This is really bad.” Nearly 9 million low-income mothers and children receive benefits under the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. Congress’ inability to
More than a dozen House Republicans who want to drop attempts to undermine the health-care law and reopen the government are meeting among themselves and with House Speaker John Boehner -- and he’s listening. For the past few weeks, Boehner’s hand has been guided by a group of Tea Party-aligned Republican House members who’ve urged little compromise in their three-year drive to undo the 2010 Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. Now, the agitation is coming from the other side of the caucus. A bipartisan group of about 40 House lawmakers are holding private talks to find a compromise
New York Magazine writer Jonathan Chait spent his government shutdown day mocking WWII veterans who were shut out by the National Park Service (NPS) when they came to visit the National WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. On Tuesday morning, Representative Michelle Bachman (R-MN) and several Republican members of Congress helped tear down the barricades shutting the elderly veterans out of the WWII memorial. After the barricades were removed, dozens of veterans flooded in to conduct their often emotional visits. But, thinking he was being funny, Chait took to Twitter to poke fun at the veterans, joking that the NPS should
Ted Cruz faced a barrage of hostile questions Wednesday from angry GOP senators, who lashed the Texas tea party freshman for helping prompt a government shutdown crisis without a strategy to end it. At a closed-door lunch meeting in the Senate’s Mansfield Room, Republican after Republican pressed Cruz to explain how he would propose to end the bitter budget impasse with Democrats, according to senators who attended the meeting. A defensive Cruz had no clear plan to force an end to the shutdown — or explain how he would defund Obamacare, as he has demanded all along, sources said. Things
First lady Michelle Obama tweeted on Tuesday afternoon that her Twitter account will see fewer updates due to the government shutdown. Due to Congress’s failure to pass legislation to fund the government, updates to this account will be limited. #Shutdown 12:55 PM - 1 Oct 2013. In 2009, FactCheck.org found that the first lady had a staff of 24 people. It is unclear whether any of the first lady’s staff have been furloughed as a result of the government shutdown.
The White House and the Department of the Interior rejected a request from Rep. Steven Palazzo’s office to have World War II veterans visit the World War II memorial in Washington, the Mississippi Republican told The Daily Caller Tuesday. Palazzo helped the veterans commit an act of civil disobedience against the Park Service Tuesday, when the heroes stormed through barricades around the closed memorial. The veterans were visiting the memorial as part of Honor Flight, a non-profit that provides veterans free transport to the nation’s capital to visit the memorials to the wars they fought in. “We got the heads up
Ronan Farrow’s ol’ blue eyes may say it all. Farrow, long described as the only biological child of actress Mia Farrow and New York filmmaker Woody Allen, may actually be the son of Frank Sinatra, his mom acknowledged in a bombshell report Wednesday. While Hollywood has whispered about the prospect for years, it was the first time that Mia publicly admitted the possibility. Asked point-blank by Vanity Fair about Sinatra’s possible parentage of Ronan, Mia coyly replied: “Possibly.” The “Rosemary’s Baby’’ actress was married to Ol’ Blue Eyes from 1966 to 1968 but continued to be his lover on and off afterward — including
Conservative talker Mark Levin has a stern warning for President Barack Obama and his administration: Don’t mess with the World War II veterans. Levin, author of “The Liberty Amendments: Restoring the American Republic,” told his audience on his Wednesday radio show should there be any action taken against those veterans for visiting the World War II Memorial on the National Mall, even with the government shutdown, he would bring 500,000 people to march on the Washington, D.C. in response. “I want to tell you folks something — I want to say this loud and clear to the people
President Barack Obama has called off his trip to Malaysia to tackle the US government shutdown, the office of Malaysia´s PM Najib Razak has said. Secretary of State John Kerry will represent him next week instead, the office said. The US government has partially shut down after the two houses of Congress failed to agree a new budget. More than 700,000 federal employees face unpaid leave, and national parks, museums and many buildings are closed. Mr Obama earlier vowed not to allow Republicans to undermine his signature healthcare legislation as a condition to restart the US government. "They demanded ransom," Mr Obama said.
