The Tea Party dead?
Don´t even consider it

Hernando Today (FL), by Henry Kelley

Original Article

Posted By:mikkins2, 2/13/2013 9:19:08 PM

Every day I read or hear pundits spending energy telling us the Tea Party is dead. Daily. Repeatedly. If we were dead, we´d have about as much media time as, oh, Michael Dukakis. However, our principles of limited government and fiscal responsibility are starting to actually resonate. All it took was a simple expiring 2 percent payroll tax hike to destroy four years of "government for free" fiction. Anyone else notice that "fiscal cliff" tax hikes have already been consumed by the spending for Superstorm (aka a "weak Category 1 for Floridians") Sandy?

Do you actually think there is a political solution to this dilemma?? With massive segments of the population on the dole, your government arming itself against its own citizens, a military training to take over domestic control, a ruler governing by decree, a congress largely bypassed and without the spine to stand up for any principle beyond its own grandeur, and a supreme court which can´t seem to read or understand the Constitution, and at least 57 other insurmountable issues. Folks, we´ve already stepped off the cliff.

America is very large, very rich in natural resources, rich also in the attitudes of many people...mostly people outside the cities, and some getting older...but there are a lot of people who figure that they WILL live free.

We have no historical heritage of generations of serfdom, and we have sloughed off our brief heritage of enslavement of Blacks. We DO have a historical heritage of a "can do" and "never give up" pioneer background. We DO have a historical heritage of our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents making huge sacrifices and taking a big chance to transport themselves and their children to this new country...arriving with no job and, if one is not found soon, no money.

No-one should give up on America. No-one should underestimate America. This is NOT Germany, or Japan. Americans aren´t real good at taking orders, but we are real good at getting to work and at being incredibly stubborn.

This land is too big, and our people have hearts too big for anyone to underestimate us.

Cliven Bundy marched into my life one Friday morning in January 1992 in a protest bound for a federal courthouse in Las Vegas. He held up one side of a street-width banner that asked, “Has the West been won or has the fight just begun?” To my great relief, just as Bundy promised, nearly 200 ranchers from all over the state marched behind him, yelling “Property rights!” Nearly a mile later, the marchers fell silent and filed into the courtroom where Wayne Hage of Pine Creek Ranch faced arraignment for the felony of cleaning brush out of his ditches without a

The Republican challenger to Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., thinks nobody should spend 47 years in Washington. Dr. Milton Wolf, a diagnostic radiologist from the Kansas City area, on Wednesday released a television ad criticizing Roberts for his nearly five decades in the nation´s capital. "After 47 years in Washington, Kansas is a distant memory for Pat Roberts," the ad opens, before pivoting to Wolf´s daily routine as a Kansas doctor. The ad goes on to mention Wolf´s plan to "repeal and replace Obamacare," "fight wasteful spending" and pass congressional term limits. After his tenure, Wolf´s ad promises, he´ll return home to Kansas.

I love that picture from the Bundy Ranch. You know the one that I’m talking about: I’m talking about all of them. I love the horn-handed Cowboys, with real, honest trail dirt on them; I love the American flags; I love the sagebrush; and I love the rebellion-- as in civil, non-violent disobedience. And the question now is, where does this go? Rebellion typically starts after a period of lassitude and hopelessness in the face of overwhelming power. Populations spend years, even decades muttering under their breath about abuses of power, but feel ineffectual to enact real reform. Then one bright day, a fruit stand

In the movie Ben-Hur, Charlton Heston was wrongly accused by government and sentenced to life in prison/slavery. Soldiers marched chained Heston along with other prisoners through the desert without food or water. Heston collapsed, unable to take another step. Jesus was passing by with a small caravan. He walked over and gave Heston a drink of water, which gave Heston the strength to continue. Note: Heston´s unfair ordeal was not over. He would endure much before his release and ultimate victory at the end of the movie. I view the Obama administration’s BLM retreat from bullying rancher Cliven Bundy and the patriots

Presidential hopefuls Rand Paul and Jeb Bush got in a slight scuffle over immigration yesterday. Bush called illegal immigration “an act of love” committed by people wanting to support their families, adding that most of them are here illegally because they can’t get in legally. This ignited some Republican rage and Rand Paul got his chance to respond: “You know, I think he might have been more artful, maybe, in the way he presented this,” said Paul, a Kentucky Republican, said on ABC’s This Week. “But I don’t want to say, ‘oh, he’s terrible for saying this.’ If it were

Republicans are famously divided on immigration reform, but Democrats pretty much unanimously support it. There´s a reason for that. In stark, partisan political terms, continuing the high level of immigration of recent decades, and certainly increasing immigration as envisioned by many reformers, will result in more Democrats winning more elections in coming years

There is a culture of sleaze in Washington that´s worse than ever. Too-big, all-powerful government not only cripples the freedoms of the regular people who have to live under it, it also creates a whole shadow infrastructure dedicated to working it to the advantage of the elite and the connected. Three recent stories illustrate the point: Matt Continetti´s piece about the divorce of lobbyists Tony and Heather Podesta shows how connected insiders can make out like bandits in Obama´s Washington. By now most people are familiar with the potentially deadly situation emerging at the Bundy ranch in Nevada. Right now, the back-story is not nearly as important as the immediate necessity to de-escalate this life-and liberty threatening situation, although it does play an important role and must be addressed. The fact that this situation could have been pulled from the script of the 1974 movie Chinatown or any of the Godfather movies is well known and must be exposed, but not before immediate action is taken to assure the preservation of life and liberty. Two of Nevada’s top elected leaders are riding to the rescue of a rancher whose decades-long range war with the federal government has reached a boiling point in recent days. The federal Bureau of Land Management has surrounded the Clark County ranch of Cliven Bundy with armed officers, helicopters and four-wheel drive vehicles. Last week, they began seizing cattle found grazing on adjacent federal lands in violation of a law meant to protect an endangered desert tortoise. “No cow justifies the atmosphere of intimidation which currently exists nor the limitation of constitutional rights that are sacred to all Nevadans.”

Many Americans have been watching with great consternation the ongoing struggle between the Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Marshals against Cliven Bundy and his family. There are no signs of either side relinquishing their position. Many onlookers have been informed that this dispute is over protecting the desert tortoise. But it is nothing of the sort. In fact, the reality of the dispute goes far underneath what is being talked about. The more appropriate source of the dispute is ground water as well as surface water -- this is a war over water. On Saturday, I wrote about the standoff at Bundy Ranch. That post drew a remarkable amount of traffic, even though, as I wrote then, I had not quite decided what to make of the story. Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development.
