Silly Season Begins: Rubio Watergulp
Scandal Shows The Media’s Dwindling
Appreciation for Substance

Mediaite, by Joe Concha

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 2/13/2013 8:47:53 PM

Marco Rubio delivered the GOP response to President Obama’s State of the Union last night. Did he talk about the contracting economy, rising unemployment, immigration reform, spiraling debt, and what we can do about it? Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. And Yes. But thanks to a unique moment of having to take a (gasp) sip of water while publicly speaking for a long stretch of time, the only thing talking heads are talking about today is Rubio “watering down the Republican message.” Get it? Should the Rubio water story been broached? Of course.

Comments:
Thank you Mr. Concha! It is refreshing that someone called out the disgraceful behavior of those in the media. You know this is how those in the media behave when they are threatened by someone, but it sure is refreshing that they were called out by other than those from Fox, Newsbusters or other conservative sites.

No way does Barack Obama outdo Ronald Reagan as a speaker. Reagan had empathy and a quality of sweetness; Obama lectures, scolds and delivers an unpleasant anger.

I didn´t watch either one because I no longer trust any politician, especially the fraud, phony lying grifter in the White House. I detest him and his party. They are traitors. Not one of them was available when the consulate was attacked and the deaths of those brave men were not even mentioned in the SOTU address. The Dems are gleefully destroying the U.S. and the only thing the media can focus on is that Rubio needed some water. A pox on all their houses!

I think this is just a move to distract from the message (again). If someone has an important message, especially if that person has a conservative message, then let the distraction maneuvers begin. It´s like sticking your fingers in your ears and singing La, La La I can´t hear you. Just more childishness.

My only quibble with the article is the effort to equate it to the 57 States gaffe by Obama. That was never pushed by the big media but by individual observers. It is the difference between a real grass roots observation and organized opinion making. The 57 states gaffe is more substantial than needing a sip of water after speaking for a while. This just indicates that is Rubio is human. This reminds us that no conservative is ever perfect enough to hold high office and no liberal is ever depraved or traitorous enough to be disqualified.

#9 has it right. The way to distract from a brilliant speech is not to refute its ideas; the way to distract is to talk about something else. The (Alinskyite) way to destroy a leading opposition figure is not to refute his ideas; the way to destroy him is to trivialize him. Talking about nothing but a gulp of water is a brilliant Obama, excuse me, MSM strategy.

#13 Great line.

If I were Rubio, I would take on the press by using sarcasm and charisma. The old "iron fist in a velvet glove" approach. The American people love a fearless fighter. This is what Reagan did so effectively.

Comparing Obama to Reagan as a speaker is easy. Can anuone quote one line from any of Obama´s speeches, expect for " They didn´t built that." His speeches are all a blur of lies with no memorable content.

The press attempted to trivialize Sarah Palin for writing on the palm of her hand, Dan Quayle for misspelling potato, and Mitt Romney for having carried his dog in a cage atop the family station wagon. The press act like "mean girls" who attempt to marginalize a school rival. Fortunately for Rubio, four years is much too long to run with a silly joke. If I were his consultant, however, I would advise him to slow down. In public speaking, less is more. We see quickly, but we hear slowly. The ear welcomes a slower pace punctuated by pauses. That is my only criticism of his night: delivering a splendid text in a rushed fashion.

#26 - This morning FNC reported that Rubio´s campaign is offering Rubio water bottles at $20-$25 each.

Yesterday, I mentioned that the local CBS affiliate was claiming that Rubio had "disgraced" himself, and I couldn´t figure out what the hell they were talking about, since there wasn´t a single disgraceful line in Rubio´s excellent response to Obama´s gaseous oratory. So -- the big deal is that he had to take a sip of water? Looks like a deliberate attempt to, er, pigeon-drop all over Rubio´s speech, and direct the public´s attention away from it.

#26 has the right idea. Marco is going to be interviewed a lot from now on, so he should make a point of having a water bottle and taking a sip in every interview, which will trivialize the MSM right back.

#22 I hope someone on the Rubio staff reads your suggestion for him to slow down when he´s speaking. His content is great: he just needs to give listeners time to absorb what he is saying. The good thing, though, is that Marco is enthusiastic about what he is saying, which tells me he is willing to fight and refuses the be rolled over the way some of his GOP colleagues are allowing Obama and the Dems to do.

It´s time to turn these guys off, take the initiative to set the agenda rather than allow morons with ever-diminishing audiences continue doing it to us. Fox News has gone wobbly, and the real unused weapon is entertainment programming. Time to create a "conservative" production company, like "Silver Screen Partners #X" and go to it. Create careers for conservative writers, artists and others in entertainment. Cheaper than big money campaigns for losers, and it may make someone money!

The White House took steps Friday toward issuing methane emissions regulations at hydraulic fracturing sites, a move that would slash greenhouse gas emissions in hopes of meeting President Obama´s climate goals but will invite backlash from industry. The news is a victory for environmental groups, which note that methane -- a short-lived, potent greenhouse gas that has a 20 times greater impact on climate change than carbon dioxide -- is the largest remaining unregulated greenhouse gas, accounting for 9 percent of U.S. emissions. The oil and gas industry, however, has warned that regulating methane emissions would stunt domestic energy production by raising

All 17 Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee have called on Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) to end the “partisan” investigation into the Benghazi attack “and begin focusing instead on conducting responsible oversight to implement constructive reforms.” The Dems, led by ranking member Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), charged that the probe “has been characterized by wild and unsubstantiated political accusations that turn out to be completely inaccurate.” They proceeded to outline those instances in the five-page letter. “Continuing this reckless pattern of launching wholly unfounded accusations on national television — and racking up more and more Pinocchios in the process —

Imagine if a former Republican presidential candidate and U.S. senator had called a current Republican president a delusional liar whose programs are wasteful. Would the mainstream media not be all over the story? Such a person would be interviewed at length by Wolf Blitzer on CNN as well as made the rounds of the morning talk shows and the Sunday news programs as well. The media buzz would be red hot on this topic for days extending into weeks. Well, there is such a person but because he is a Democrat saying these things about President Obama, we can expect

As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas. Some of these methane emissions come from

A startling rift appeared Tuesday on the Supreme Court as the three female Justices came out swinging like Brunnhildes — women warriors — for what they erroneously labeled an “entitlement” to employer-provided contraceptives and morning-after pills. The Justices were hearing oral arguments in Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., a case hyped by the Democratic Party as a test for women’s rights. Justices Kagan, Ginsberg, and Sotomayor sprang on Hobby Lobby’s attorney , interrupting his every sentence and pummeling him with questions taken right out of the Democratic Party’s “war on women” playbook. That playbook was laid out in a

Las Vegas - Many of the Republican Party’s most powerful insiders and financiers have begun a behind-the-scenes campaign to draft former Florida governor Jeb Bush into the 2016 presidential race, courting him and his intimates and starting talks on fundraising strategy. Concerned that the George Washington Bridge traffic scandal has damaged New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s political standing and alarmed by the steady rise of Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), prominent donors, conservative leaders and longtime operatives say they consider Bush the GOP’s brightest hope to win back the White House.

The past couple of weeks have marked a turning point in American ugliness as the mob has turned its full fury on first lady Michelle Obama. From criticism of her trip to China to a recent “tell-all” by former White House assistant press secretary Reid Cherlin in the New Republic about Obama’s allegedly tyrannical behavior, the gloves have been removed. As described, she was a perfectionist — super-attentive to detail and laser-focused on advance planning. And this is bad because? Worse, according to a former (anonymous) staffer, there was no barometer for meeting Obama’s high standards. “The first lady having

A University of Virginia student arrested by Alcoholic Beverage Control agents who wrongly believed she´d illegally bought beer when in fact she only had bottled water is seeking $40 million in a lawsuit filed Tuesday. With studies showing widening economic gaps between whites and African Americans, civil rights leaders in metro Detroit are concerned. “We’re going in the wrong direction,” said Freda Sampson, a leader with the nonprofit group Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion. “We’re getting further and further divided.” To help close that racial and class divide, her group is holding an all-day conference, called the Equity Action Summit, on Saturday at Cobo Center in Detroit. (Snip) Saturday’s conference, supported by the NAACP and Fair Housing Center of Metro Detroit, is to feature talks by President Barack Obama’s former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah

Where’s the beef? That’s what the carnivores were wondering as they arrived at the Boathouse in Central Park for the “Noah” party. The buffet tables were loaded with various forms of edible vegetable matter, but there was no meat, fish or cheese — because director Darren Aronofsky is vegan, as was the hero of his biblical epic, as played by Russell Crowe. To underscore the point in the movie, which also stars Emma Watson and Jennifer Connelly, villain Tubal-cain (Ray Winstone) eagerly bites the head off an unidentified reptile and devours it raw. Meat = evil. Got it. As hungry Boathouse guests bellied

Only "mere scraps of data documented" Barack Obama´s mother´s "days in Seattle," writes Obama biographer David Maraniss in his 2012 Barack Obama: The Story. Incidentally, Maraniss was telling the truth: Ann´s "days in Seattle" weren´t mentioned in Dreams from my Father and were only vaguely implied in Maraniss´s lengthy 2008 article. And it appears that the only "scraps" of evidence of Obama´s mother´s time in Seattle during 1961-1962 was a listing in a Seattle Polk directory and a University of Washington (UW) transcript. And it appears that the only "mere scraps" of evidence of baby Barack´s time in Seattle are
