| Gosh, won’t it be marvellous if the next pope turns out to be black?[Snip]I’ve no doubt in the salons of Islington and the BBC canteens, they will all think this is a jolly good thing, much as they did when Barack Obama ushered in a golden new era of joy, healing, reconciliation and endless world peace. But I’m not sure that’s what they’re going to get. African churchmen--non-Western or non-white clergy, generally--tend to be considerably more robust and old school than your Reverend J C Flannel comedy Anglican vicar with his very real concerns about diversity
|
Comments: Another great piece from Jimmy D, this time tilting at the various shades of diversity.

It would not surprise me if the choice is from Latin America. Given that Latin America is largely Catholic, it kinda makes sense. I read today that the Ghanaian candidate has made statements in the past that went against doctrine so that could be a strike against him.
The media would offer sacrifices for a chance to have a black Pope. It would make their guy in the WH look better.

This guy could be the guy to cause a split in the catholic religion if elected. He could very well be the false prophet,he will come from the city of seven hills,Rome. If a black man is elected as pope this could be the key figure in the One World Religion and could very well be the false prophet that will usher in the Anti-Christ. This is going to be very interesting to set back and watch what unfolds in the months to come. I believe the Anti-Christ may be from Iran, an Islamic country, and will usher in the One World Religion with the aid of the false prophet, the pope. Remember the name Chrislam in the months to come it will be coming to a church near you one day. There is something this elected pope will do to cause a split in the Catholic Religion, but I can´t recall what it is that he will do to cause this division in the Catholic Religion. The color of a mans skin is not what has a lot of people concerned it is what is behind his being elected pope.

From what I´ve read about Turkson, the black Cardinal who has been in the news, he would be a wonderful pope. He´s very conservative, especially on issues like abortion and gay "marriage".
I don´t care who the next pope is as long as he´s willing to say and do what must be said and done for the future of the Catholic Church, Christianity and the rest of the world.

Hundreds took to the streets as macabre ‘Thatcher death parties’ were held late into the night across the country, organised by critics of the ´Iron Lady.´ Smashed shop windows, paint bombs and police being attacked were all consequences of the Left´s sick ´celebration´ of Baroness Thatcher´s death. In Brixton, south London, riot police were deployed as the crowds, which had been drinking since 5pm, started to become more aggressive smashing shop fronts and throwing paint bomb. In Liverpool, flares and fireworks were set off outside Lime Street Station by revellers, while in Bristol, seven police officers were injured--one seriously--as violence

Cometh the hour cometh the man. (Or woman). Except it´s not always true, is it? In 1940 we had Winston Churchill. In 1979 we had Margaret Thatcher. But I´m not sure even the most generous apologists for our current Prime Minister would bracket David Cameron in quite the same category. [Snip] One of the key differences between the two lies in their attitude to personal popularity. To the politician it matters greatly, for the primary aim of the politician is to gain and maintain power at regardless of what cost to his principles. By Sanford’s math and reading of Obama administration stimulus allocation figures, the Wind Turbine Drivetrain Testing Facility received $43 million and “created or saved” an estimated 134 jobs. When divided, the numbers calculate to more than $320,000 per job, Sanford said. Sanford’s comments came during a visit to a Mount Pleasant branch of Lyerly’s Cleaners, where he carried in a load

A coral reef in Northern Australia severely damaged by warming seas has managed to completely heal itself in just 12 years, stunned researchers have found. The team found that being left alone to breed on its own was key. The discovery raises hope that other damaged reefs could ´regenerate´. The new research shows that an isolated reef off the northwest coast of Australia that was severely damaged by a period of warming in 1998. It was hit by coral bleaching, caused by higher water temperatures that break down the coral´s symbiotic relationship with algae that provide food for coral growth.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

The case of a same-sex Connecticut couple accused of repeatedly raping and abusing two of their nine adopted boys is headed for trial. Married couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth of Glastonbury were supposed to be sentenced Friday in Hartford Superior Court under a plea deal, but instead withdrew from their agreement with prosecutors. The men had already pleaded no contest in January to one felony count each of risk of injury to a minor — a reduction from even more serious charges related to sexual assault....
