Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee Claims to be a ‘Freed Slave,’ Opposes All Government Spending Cuts

| Texas’ national treasure speaks on history and the current state of government spending. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) urged her colleagues to reach a compromise to prevent spending cuts through sequestration, arguing that government programs are already as lean as they can be. “We’re at the bone almost, and sequester, that is across-the-board cuts, will literally destroy us and put us in a recession,” she said on the House floor Wednesday. She called on Republicans to meet Democrats at the negotiating table and rejected the idea that President Obama delivered a partisan State of the Union address Tuesday night.

So all other races who need assistance can just punt because ´freed slaves´ automatically go to the front of the line? What about the blacks who are not descended from slaves (there were freemen even back to colonial times? Or the native Americans, who were frequently enslaved in the Spanish colonies? Or the Chinese coolies? Or the indentured servants of all races, including whites? Or the unpopular immigrants (Irish, Italian, and other Southern Europeans) who were exploited and abused when they came here. This racist "witch" makes me sick with her constant demands for special privileges for blacks at the expense of all other races.

This woman is an embarrassment whose continuance in office confirms every negative stereotype and whose public comments invariably make one wince. There are others like her. It is discouraging to realize that they have constituencies. Of course, the liberal news media does its best to protect them. Like Obama, they are affirmative action hires. They are not held to the same standards as others.
If Ms. Jackson thinks she is a freed slave, she should contact the Freedman´s Bureau for assistance. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedmen´s_Bureau for details).
On second thought, she already has. She thinks the Federal government is and ought to be a vast modern day Freedman´s Bureau. She may have a point. There are a lot of citizens who are unwilling or unable to cope and take care of themselves. They definitely need assistance of some kind. Putting them on welfare and signing them up for food stamps does not begin to address the root of the problem but merely perpetuates their difficulties. A true Freedman´s Bureau modeled loosely on the one of Reconstruction days might be a start.

I´m willing to give Texas a pass on SJL. I think it´s kinda like a pet owner who keeps a really, really stupid, clumsy old dog around out of an excess of kindness, knowing how wrong it´d be to saddle someone else with the mutt, and being too kind to put it down.
That said, a couple suggestions: a. we need to have a CDC established. No, a different group, but same initials -- the Congressional Dumb Caucus. b. Members of the CDC will be prohibited from introducing or voting on any measure that affects, applies to, or uses tax money from any citizen not resident in the Member´s District.
Oh -- and reflecting the lighter workload, they´ll: be paid minimum wage; get $500-a-year in allowance for staff, travel, and office expenses; not be eligible for the Members´ healthcare benefits; or accrue retirement credits from their office-holding.
Agreed?
#23: No, sorry, wrong again. It isn´t Guam´s "buoyancy" that´s been worried over. It´s Guam´s metacentric height.

#29: You join a large club.
Metacentric height is a critical part of naval architecture. Very roughly analogous to roll center in a car. It´s a dynamic condition/value; a ship´s hull rolling on its long axis if well designed gets self-righting force from changes in the relationship of center of buoyancy, center of gravity, and metacentric height, roughly. I use a seat-of-pants version when I build my large radio-controlled model ships. It´s worth looking into for the practical physics. Interesting.

One of the first political issues negotiators must tackle in crafting an immigration reform bill is among the most important: what to name it. It’s a decision that will bruise egos, create legacies and deeply affect subsequent messaging battles. “Every time the bill is mentioned in the press, you either have a brand that´s positive or a brand that doesn´t mean anything or even hurts you,” said Frank Sharry, the executive director of the pro-immigration reform group America’s Voice. The wrong name, he warned, could doom a good bill. “If there´s not a

President Obama is eager to build public support for his health care overhaul in the few months remaining before its implementation, but waning enthusiasm from Democrats threatens his effort right out of the gate. Two-thirds of Democrats now believe Obama´s health care reforms will either hurt them personally or have no effect on their daily lives, a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday shows. In comparison, just 27 percent of Democratic respondents said the reforms would help them. The president has long struggled to convince independent and Republican-leaning voters that his health care blueprint would lower premiums and expand insurance coverage.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

On Friday, Sean Hannity brought Pat Smith, mother of the late Sean Smith, on his radio program. The 34-year-old information management officer was one of four Americans murdered in the Benghazi embassy attack on September 11, 2012. In the chilling interview, a distraught Ms. Smith, in tears, pleaded for answers and spoke of the efforts to silence her.
