´Now is the time´: Gabrielle
Giffords and husband talk
gun regulation in Vogue

TUCSON, Ariz. — Former US Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, talk about their continued push for gun regulation in the upcoming issue of Vogue magazine. The couple has formed a political action committee in hopes of preventing gun violence and changing laws to require compulsory background checks for gun buyers. The PAC will also work to limit the size of ammo magazines and to ban the sale of assault weapons to civilians. Kelly said "now is the time" to do something in the wake of recent mass shootings in Colorado and Connecticut.

Comments:
Uhh, is Vogue magazine the right venue for this? I don´t buy that magazine, but it would be nice that politics didn´t interfere with every single thing in this society. I´m not sure all the fashionistas will be thrilled with this.

The kind of regulations that the Kelly´s propose would not have prevented the tragedy that befell them. More regulation will only affect those that are willing to be regulated. This of course exempts criminals and people with ill intent!

I would feel a lot more inclined to listen to these twits if any of their proposals would do anything to stop her shooting or the school shootings.

Even if they were to propose confiscation of all weapons it would not stop these shootings any more than banning heroin stops people from selling it to teenagers.

Why not background checks before buying or transferring a computer or smart phone?

These ´horrible devices´ are commonly used by criminals to steal identities and millions of dollars. We can´t have just anyone owning one of these weapons of mass spamming and fraud.

Makes just as much sense. The gun is an inanimate object, and like a computer, car or hammer, can be used for good or evil.

She knew she was being stalked by Loughner and did not have sufficient protection for herself and those attending the rally.
The Sheriff did not even have a car there.
GG should own up to her own negligence and willful arrogance.

These gun-grabbing creeps are certifiable. There is not a gun problem, there is a people problem. Norway was the site of one of the worst mass shootings in history. Guns are illegal -- no one around for miles to take the maniac out. Mexico has banned guns but has a murder rate 1 that of the US. Gun banning is not Constitional, it is also not a political priority according to polls. Gun grabbers want to transform citizens into docile sheep. GOP should have invited stabbing victims. We need to ban knives because they kill more people than rifles. Slap a ribbon on yourself and all of a sudden your high and mighty.

No one will explain why there isn´t a register of convicted felons or those who have been committed to a psychiatric institution. Just make those registers available to FFL (federal firearms listing) agents. The problems always arise when you want to do an invasive check of someone for owning a gun which is your right guaranteed by the constitution.

GENEVA – Top diplomats from the United States, European Union, Russia and Ukraine reached agreement after marathon talks Thursday on immediate steps to ease the crisis in Ukraine. The tentative agreement puts on hold -- for now at least -- additional economic sanctions the West had prepared to impose on Russia if the talks were fruitless. And that will ease international pressure both on Moscow and nervous European Union nations that depend on Russia for their energy. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry called the deal the result of a "good day´s work" but emphasized that the words on paper

For several months now, whenever the topic of enrollment in the Affordable Care Act came up, I’ve been saying that it was too soon to tell its ultimate effects. We don’t know how many people have paid for their new insurance policies, or how many of those who bought policies were previously uninsured. For that, I said, we will have to wait for Census Bureau data, which offer the best assessment of the insurance status of the whole population. Other surveys are available, but the samples are smaller, so they’re not as good; the census is the gold standard. Unfortunately,

GOP presidential hopefuls are largely steering clear of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s fight with the federal government. The showdown, which left armed militia members and feds staring each other down last week, has captivated talk radio and cable news shows, turning Bundy into a conservative cause célèbre. Yet Sen. President Obama´s budget would not place the federal debt on a downward path over the next 10 years, according to projections released by the Congressional Budget Office on Thursday. The CBO, Congress’ nonpartisan budget scorekeeper, projected that if the president’s proposals were to go into effect, federal debt held by the public would rise from $12.8 trillion at the end of fiscal 2014 to $19.9 trillion in 2024, leaving the level of debt as a share of total economic output constant, at roughly 74 percent. Media Matters for America is apparently resisting an effort by Service Employees International Union Local 500 to unionize its staff. Last week, the union filed a representation petition with the National Labor Relations Board, indicating that the nonprofit media watchdog organization rejected an effort by the union to organize MMFA´s staff through a Card Check election. A filing with the NLRB does not necessarily mean that the union and management are in direct confrontation. For example, although Volkswagen tacitly backed the United Auto Workers´ recent effort to organize its Chattanooga, Tenn., plant, the company still insisted on an NLRB-monitored election. But the

Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either. President Obama tosses around “sweetie” as he wishes. No problem with that. No one believes Barack could be condescending to women.
