Good Evening. I speak to you tonight from Washington, D.C. The state of our economy is tenuous, but our people remain the greatest example of freedom and prosperity the world has ever known. People say America is exceptional. [Snip] America is exceptional because we were founded upon the notion that everyone should be free to pursue life, liberty and happiness. For the first time in history, men and women were guaranteed a chance to succeed based their own initiative and desire to work. Headline resplit correctly by staff
The problem for the Republican Establishment is that Google exists and anyone with access to a computer can see for themselves that they have been gaming their constituents for many a year now.
There is a reason why they keep losing the war on government growth and spending. They are as addicted to it as the democrat party and thus they do not want to win it.
The Republican Establishment generals will continue to purposely leak their own battle plans, sabotage equipment, give the position of their hidden forces, even frag their own soldiers in effort to make sure the war is never won, at least, by them.
All we need to know about DC is to look at the reaction of Congress as Obama walked into the building last night. Politicians falling all over themselves to shake this man`s hand, greeting him like a pack of 13 year old school girls fawning over their latest pop star hero, pen in hand anxiously pining for an autograph.
The display was sickening to the core. Rome has burned. All that is left is the direction the wind will blow the ashes.
I don´t understand why the newsmedia and the American people are not in a screaming panic. Here´s the math.
We have a deficit of 1.5 trillion. That means we are spending that much more every year than we take in. We can´t keep doing that indefinitely. At some point the lenders are going to stop lending. Right now if the lenders were to stop lending - the country ends.(The states secede and form new countries among themselves.)
Math shows we only get 0.4 trillion from the rich but they will just move their money to avoid paying and anyway that´s not nearly enough. The Democrats like to talk about taxing the rich but there aren´t enough rich and they aren´t rich enough to solve this problem.
The only place to get more money is from the typical wage earner. 50k$ to 150k$ per year per family. Assume 50 million families. 1.5 Trillion / 50 million = 30k$ per year in additional taxes.(NOT 30k$ one time BUT 30k$ every year!) Assuming a progressive form of taxation on this group - because the 50k earner can´t possibly pay 30k - means the 100k earner pays 60 to 70k. Most people will be left will 10k to 20k per year to live on. That means pay mortgage, utilities, food, healthcare. Obamacare alone is projected to cost 20k per year.
Conclusion, in order to balance the budget by taxation, the majority of people would not have enough money for food. The budget cannot be balanced by taxes. It must be cut in half.
Last night, Marco Rubio spoke to the heart while Rand Paul spoke to the head. (NerØbama spoke to another part of the anatomy.)
While both Rubio and Paul gave excellent responses, the difference in approach highlights the need for a new conservative party that does not try to be Democrat Lite. When in trouble like our Republic is, it is necessary to set aside emotion and objectively and methodically address the situation at hand. We must get down to brass tacks with clear eyes and determination. That´s how survivors - survive.
A couple of years back Rand did a program by program review of the US budget (back in the days when the President and Senate felt required by law to prepare one) to evaluate the spending based on twin principles: was the spending effective AND did the spending fall within the Constitutional Authority of the federal government. As I recall, he found 600 billion dollars a year that the GAO had declared to be ineffective spending AND were for things outside the authority of the government. This will need to be the approach to reducing spending. We can reduce spending by a penny of each dollar, but we need end the really bad programs right away.
I really like Paul, but he cannot seem to understand that open borders are a material threat to liberty. He would do well to freshen up on the Rise and Fall of Rome. Otherwise, he´s great -- like his Pop it´s clear he cares more about the cause of liberty than being famous.
Never let a crisis -- or tragedy -- go to waste. So, here we are now with a weakened ObamaNation building an organizing event around the awfulness in Newtown, where a 22-year-old nut-job killed 20 innocent youngsters and six adult caretakers. No horrified parent or adult watching Connecticut a year ago needs reminding of what a national gut-kick that was. President Obama, of course, went to Newtown to utter another empty vow.
So, Barack Hussein Obama can tell where Americans are from just by looking at their faces. Imagine if he also knew their funny foreign names or detected defective English. How would Obama react if someone determined his birthplace by looking at that face of his? And what evil or good dreams lurk within that obviously wily Chicagoan´s mind. You didn´t see much about this Obama statement in the mainstream media last week. With the ObamaCare disaster all cleaned up, its website humming perfectly and the U.S. economy now roaring strongly, Obama lit out for West Coast fundraising.
According to the Obama White House, the first family consumed a Thanksgiving dinner of turkey, honey-baked ham, cornbread stuffing, oyster stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, greens, green bean casserole, dinner rolls and macaroni and cheese. Then, the family washed all that down with nine kinds of pies: huckleberry, pecan, sweet potato, peach, apple, pumpkin, banana cream, coconut cream and chocolate cream. For years now First Lady Michelle Obama has been pushing her program called "Let´s Move!" for more exercise and better foods. But Gallup reports Americans prefer “Let’s Eat!”
Hello, I’m Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina. As we celebrate this Thanksgiving holiday, it’s important for us all to reflect on our many blessings. Family and friends immediately come to mind. But there are many Americans who will not be able to celebrate this holiday season at their home. Some are serving our nation overseas, thousands of miles away. And in their world, the creature comforts you and I take for granted -- things like running water and electricity -- are considered luxuries.
President Obama's weekly remarks: Hi, everybody. On behalf of all the Obamas — Michelle, Malia, Sasha, Bo, and the newest member of our family, Sunny — I want to wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. We’ll be spending today just like many of you — sitting down with family and friends to eat some good food, tell stories, watch a little football and. most importantly, count our blessings. And as Americans, we have so much to be thankful for.
The year that is drawing toward its close has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added which are of so extraordinary a nature that they can not fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever-watchful providence of Almighty God.
Fallon: Last week, America’s longest-married couple celebrated their 81st wedding anniversary. They were all over the news. When the couple saw themselves on TV, they said, “Good for them.” Letterman: The only good news out of this ObamaCare debacle is it´s nice to know someone knows less about computers than I do. Fallon: Toronto´s troubled mayor Rob Ford now says he´s getting professional help. The professional´s name is “Cinnamon."
Standby for holiday launch! Remember back in eighth grade the kid named Joel who got straight A´s? And everyone pretty much hated him because he was doing what we all silently knew we were supposed to be doing? Well now, in the week that brings us the predictable TV news of massive Thanksgiving travel delays and Black Friday insanity comes official statistical word that the Joel´s of America have already finished all their Christmas shopping. Almost one-in-ten Americans are already all done!
Hi, everybody. Over the past couple months, most of the political headlines you’ve read have probably been about the government shutdown and the launch of the Affordable Care Act. And I know that many of you have rightly never been more frustrated with Washington. But if you look beyond those headlines, there are some good things happening in our economy. And that’s been my top priority since the day I walked into the Oval Office.
One of the dangers of speaking in public for politicians is putting their mouth on cruise control. The media´s questions are generally so predictable. And the pols become so familiar with reciting replies to certain contemporary topics that they´re tempted to turn off the brain and just spout the day´s approved talking points. Unlike many officials this long into elected service, President Obama has stuck with his teleprompter. It ensures he utters the vocabulary words pre-polled by his communications strategists for effectiveness and resonance with voters.
Barack Obama is not the first president to duck a direct rhetorical comparison with Abraham Lincoln on the anniversary of the 16th president´s Gettysburg Address, arguably America´s greatest speech. But Obama is the most surprising. Rather than travel a mere 65 miles to attend the 150th anniversary celebration of the revered speech by the president who ended slavery, the nation´s first African American president hunkered in his White House fortress.
Fallon: Cornell scientists create a robot that can hold a knife. Or as robots will tell their grandkids, "That is when the revolution began." Conan: Climate change talks in Poland focus on China, world’s biggest polluter. May get awkward tomorrow, when China buys Poland. Leno: A new world record today in the 100 meters. Set by Congressional Democrats running away from ObamaCare.
Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) said on MSNBC’s “PoliticsNation” Wednesday that when Jesus fed five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish, “he didn’t charge food stamps.” “When Jesus had those five loaves and two fishes, he didn´t charge food stamps. He didn´t ask anybody how much money they had. He fed them because they were hungry, and that´s really where we ought to be,” McDermott said in response to Republican critics of the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). In September, the House approved a plan by Republicans to cut $39 billion in food stamps over the next
The nation’s view of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, colored by the horrific Benghazi assassination of the U.S. ambassador to Libya on her watch, has suddenly turned upside down, with more now holding an unfavorable opinion of the likely 2016 presidential candidate. A new YouGov/Economist poll found Clinton, whose approval ratings have typically been sky high, with an unfavorable rating of 48 percent, more than the 46 percent who have a favorable opinion of her. The YouGov pollsters said that the change in American attitudes toward Clinton "suggests that negative press surrounding the tragic
In the US we are used to abortion advocates claiming that the risk of elective abortion is relatively trivial, and major medical organizations denying any link between abortion and breast cancer. Now a powerful new study from China published last week by Yubei Huang and colleagues suggests otherwise. The article, a meta-analysis pooling 36 studies from 14 provinces in China, showed that abortion increased the risk of breast cancer by 44% with one abortion, and 76% and 89% with two and three abortions. This new article is another example of the recent excellent scholarship on abortion in peer-reviewed journals coming out
MIDDLETOWN, Del.- Remembering the plot of a short story is no longer good enough in teacher Amy Lawson´s fifth-grade classroom. Today´s students are being asked to think more critically. For example, what might a character say in an email to a friend? "It´s hard. But you can handle this," Lawson tells them. Welcome to a classroom using the Common Core State Standards, one of the most politicized and misunderstood changes in education for students and their teachers in kindergarten through high school. In 45 states and the District of Columbia, Lawson and and other teachers are starting to use the standards
Bill Clinton, the cliché goes, was the first black president, no matter his skin color. That being the case, Barack Obama is not the first black president, or the first African-American president, if you prefer, but the first hippie president. Clinton’s southern background and lifestyle were indeed more typically black, just as Obama’s was more typically hippie. And we’re not just talking about the “Choom gang” here, scarfing “Maui Wowie” on the sands of Oahu. We’re talking about all of it, the whole multi-culti-missing-white-mother-vanished-Kenyan-father-anti-imperialist-America-is-always-the-enemy-and-don’t-you-forget-it-nine-yards. And like most hippie culture as I knew and experienced it, it wasn’t about “peace and love.” Not
Gov. Chris Christie’s “bizarre behavior’’ in refusing to say he’ll support a possible GOP challenger to Gov. Cuomo next year could derail his chances to become president, state and national GOP insiders have told The Post. “Christie already has a problem with many Republicans refusing to forgive him because of his embrace of [President] Obama and his socially liberal policies,’’ said a nationally prominent GOP operative. “But this bizarre behavior in suggesting he won’t help a Republican defeat a Democratic governor, and a Cuomo no less, could finish off his chances of becoming his party’s nominee for president in 2016,’’ the
Senior officials in the White House have said that Israel Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu “is desperate and weak,” in reaction to Netanyahu´s remonstrations against the deal struck with Iran over its nuclear weapons program. Israeli television Channel 10 quoted the officials as saying “His pronouncements show a lack of self-confidence,” in an unusually harsh personal attack on Netanyahu. “We are not perturbed by his vocal opposition.”
During a presentation at the White House in which President Barack Obama touted the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the president declared that his signature health care reform law was not going to be repealed. This assertion led his administration members, his staff, and audience members to rise from their seats and give the president a standing ovation. Obama said that ACA opponents’ alternative to the health care reform law is to champion repeal and going back to the health care delivery system status quo ante. He specifically cited Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who he said was asked directly for
Barack Obama is a man with only one core conviction. He has, as the basic foundation of his otherwise disorganized and uncertain belief system, the irrefutable tenet that the United States, because of its European roots, has been the epitome of oppression and arrogance throughout its history. Therefore, he is able to rationalize the need to say or do anything as the transformation of American society and the end of the pre-eminent status of the United States are his sole objectives. He has, thus, adopted a pre-meditated schizophrenic personality wherein he comports himself as an apologist and appeaser on the
A push by activists to ease the 30-year-old blanket ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men faces a key test this week as a federal panel hears results of the latest research. The findings will be released amid growing pressure from politicians and advocates, including college students, to change the policy. Critics say the ban is a hangover from the early, fear-filled days of AIDS, stigmatizing gay men and ignoring advances in treatment and detection in the decades since. Supporters of the policy say politics, not science, is driving the proposed change, which would heighten the risk of
A woman has revealed how difficult it is to eat healthily and stay full when living off an average food stamp budget. Melinda Moulton, from Huntington, Vermont, was one of 200 people to take part in the 3Squares Challenge, which saw her living for a week on just $36 worth of food, or around $1.71 a meal. Opting to try and eat as healthily as possible, Ms Moulton resorted to cheap foods like yogurt for breakfast, two handfuls of peanuts for lunch and lentil stew for dinner, all of which left her unsatisfied.´I don´t know how people do it,´ said
So the troubled site apparently now works 90 percent of the time. That should be good news for Obama—but the question is whether Obamacare will get the mass enrollment it needs. HealthCare.gov finally works. Now people just need to use it. The error-plagued website, which was supposed to be the portal for Americans seeking to buy health insurance through the exchanges set up by the Affordable Care Act, is finally approaching basic functionality two months after it went online. In a report released Sunday, the Department of Health and Human Services breathlessly announced that the website now functions more than 90 percent of
