‘We cannot cut our way to prosperity’:
Obama sets out vision to support a
´thriving middle class´ without
spending ´a single dime´

A politically emboldened President Obama railed against Congress on Tuesday for its lack of compromise on budget cuts as he called for greater investments in education and infrastructure that he promised would be ´fully paid for.´ ´Nothing I’m proposing tonight should increase our deficit by a single dime,´ Obama said during his State of the Union address. ´It’s not a bigger government we need, but a smarter government that sets priorities and invests in broad-based growth.´ In a broad-ranging speech that lasted just over an hour, Obama grew emotional at times as he rallied for

Comments:
Shaking my head here. Just one question: so why did he vastly increase the size of government? Surely it wasn´t just to create loyal voters? /s

Btw, isn´t it amazing how that useless old goat of a country the UK is managing to cut spending on items like illegal-undocumented-out of state aliens-residents-immigrants-migrants-guest workers, fraudulent disability and welfare claims, plus a myriad other things, and is showing signs of growth (e.g., house prices have significantly increased).

He´s a ´leveler´.

Bringing down the wealthy can be done.

Bringing up the poor is a fantasy.

The convergence of "Green" religion pushed the left over the top because it excused the destruction of our manufacturing base.

International leveling is the larger plan at work here.

We must spread the suffering.

An example of mindless, emotional rhetoric bearing no relationship to reality. Who says that if you are deep in the red and going deeper all the time that cutting expenses can´t work?

What kind of business or private household would operate the way Obama proposes? This kind of fantastic misunderstanding and misrepresentation is extreme even for Democrats.

We cannot cut our way to prosperity, but we can spend our way there? Politicians and government bureaucrats are going to choose and make investments(!) of public monies that are sure to reap a handsome return?

At least one famous American thought that he could cut his way to prosperity, and did. Andrew Carnegie was famous for telling his managers not to worry about making a profit but to devote their attention to cutting expenses. He said the profit would take care of itself. It did. It is good business to spend as little as possible to supply the product or service. It is good government to do the same.

If drug tests, background checks and security clearances were necessary for politicians, as they are for most government jobs, most of Washington would be vacant. Certainly B.J. and Obama would be disqualified. The biggest change that needs to be done is to hold them to the same standards and laws that they impose upon us. They are supposed to be working for US, after all.

Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators.
