Charred human remains have been found in the burned-out cabin where fugitive former Los Angeles police officer Christopher Dorner was believed to be, according to a sheriff´s spokeswoman. Jodi Miller from San Bernardino County sheriff´s office said the remains were found late Tuesday after a shootout that killed one sheriff´s deputy and injured another. It brings the number of murders Dorner is said to have committed to four. Authorities believe Dorner barricaded himself inside the cabin and a fire later ensued. Investigators will attempt to determine if the remains are Dorner´s through forensic tests, but it could take up to

Brilliant...So at this point they only SUSPECT it was him. There is a shootout at a cabin and it burns to the ground. What if they find it was not him ? Go to the next cabin with another armed man and shoot that place up too ? Eventually they will get the right one.

Could take up to a week to determine the remains. Yet, it only took hours to identify Bin Ladens DNA, hmmm, makes you wonder.

Five bucks says he read that John Grisham book and the remains ain´t his.

Kill some poor sap, drag his carcass into the cabin, get the cops to burn it.

And don´t count on ever hearing definitely that it was his body, the cops have way too much to lose by having to say ´Oh, sh*t....´

Some of the above comments lead to believe the cops are just a bunch of murderous thugs going from cabin to cabin getting into firefights with people and then torching them. Another suggest a Waco scenario all over again, that he was this person holding out in a cabin, did nothing to instigate a high profile police hunt threatening police officers with a manifesto a hit list of names, including their families (BTW, one of the fatalities he is responsible for was the daughter of one person on the hit list)and had actually carried out his threats and killed several police officers.

I can´t believe that even here we have people wanting to make this poor excuse for protein a martyr.

I think #4 may have a clue. Why did he purchase scuba gear if not to use it to breathe under ground? A prepared spot in the cellar, cover himself up so he won´t be found, and wait till the cops leave. Farfetched? Maybe, but until DNA proves the body is Dorner, I will continue to be skeptical.

I disagree, #9. This was almost certainly suicide by cop.

As for ID, waiting for an autopsy to confirm identity probably would be standard operating procedure in all jurisdictions because nobody saw the human remains before they were "charred" and identifying features are probably unrecognizable, thus a positive visual ID would be next to impossible.

Cop haters are usually folks who have gotten what they felt was an undeserved traffic ticket, or couldn´t talk their way out of a citation. Who you gonna call when crime reaches into your home and threatens your very existence? Have a gun handy and a cell phone ready to call 911. They are there to help you even if you don´t like them.

The last shot the officers heard from Dorner was him committing suicide. Saved Southern California a lot of money and no one is sad to see him gone.

On 17 July 1974, the LAPD used the same method to "subdue" 6 memeber of the SLA.
The next day, an anonymous phone call to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) stated that several heavily armed people were staying at the caller´s daughter´s house. That afternoon, more than 400 LAPD officers, under the command of Captain Mervin King, along with the FBI, California Highway Patrol, and Los Angeles Fire Department surrounded the neighborhood. The leader of a SWAT team used a bullhorn to announce, "Occupants of 1466 East 54th Street, this is the Los Angeles Police Department speaking. Come out with your hands up!" a member of the SWAT team fired tear gas projectiles into the house. This was answered by heavy bursts of automatic gunfire, and a battle began.

Two hours later, the house caught fire. Two women left from the rear of the house and one came out the front (she had come in drunk the previous night, passed out, and woken up in the middle of the siege); all were taken into custody, but were found not to be SLA members. Automatic weapons fire continued from the house.

The rest died inside, from smoke inhalation, burns and gunshot wounds. After the shooting stopped and the fire was extinguished, 19 firearms—including rifles, pistols, and shotguns—were recovered. Several thousands of rounds had been fired out of the house by the SLA and police in response had fired several thousands of rounds into the house. This remains one of the largest police shootouts in history with a reported total of over 9,000 rounds being fired. Every round fired by SLA members at the police missed the officers.

Google SLA.

#20, I was wondering the same thing. Thought for a minute I had accidently entered the Daily Kos. Folks, the man had a shoot out going on with police before he (probably) shot himself. I neither know nor care how the fire started. He´s dead now and people like my cousin, a deputy in neighboring Riverside County, can breathe easier. Spare me the "evil cops" nonsense. This was a disturbed individual who had previously served his country in the Navy, and I´m sorry his life spun out of control and resulted in his death and that of several others. But the conspiracy theories being bandied about here in my favorite salon are sad.

But Mr Farage was forced on to the defensive after claiming Assad did not use chemical weapons against the Syrian people. In the nightmare world of George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four, three vast totalitarian states were permanently at war. Big Brother needed outside enemies to rally the masses behind his rule. As ever, real life suggests that Orwell was on to something: authoritarian states do seem more likely to go to war; democracies, by contrast, very rarely fight one another. The country which might have modelled itself on Orwell’s vision, North Korea, duly tells its people that they are permanently on the brink of war. Whenever the tension with South Korea eases, North Korea always turns the temperature back up again. Only
