Head Start has been around since the earl y90´s and has been a huge failure not to mention wasting billions of dollars. The program has been expanded to teach adults literacy,especially foreigners. There hasn´t been much if any grade level reading achievement.This is really no different than another failed concept of universal preschool which simply means more teaching bureaucrats into the system. Kids learned to read fine before all these stupid programs. The problem is actual education has taken a backseat in school to liberal indoctrination instead. And what is the parents role in teaching kids to read? Apparently not much anymore.
I hate the term "a good public education" being spouted by people who send their kids to private school.

We already have programs for 4 year olds, the failed Headstart Program, and we already have high schools and colleges working together with programs for gifted students. So, what is the man talking about? It almost sounds as if he has no clue how America works.

If there were an award for Most Constructive Shaming of the News Media, the clear winner would be Kirsten Powers, the brave Fox News pundit and Daily Beast columnist. Last Thursday, she called out the mainstream media for failing to adequately report on the ongoing trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia abortionist who is charged with murdering seven newborn infants and a patient seeking an abortion. Powers’s USA Today piece provoked an instant response from many sheepish journalists. Megan McArdle of the Daily Beast acknowledged she “should have” written about the “horror Doc’s” clinic.

My Times colleague Mark Mazzetti has a new book out that is getting a lot of attention, including some cinematic excerpts published in The Times, here and here. “The Way of the Knife” recounts the recent transformation of the Central Intelligence Agency from a traditional spying shop into more of a man-hunting paramilitary — custodian of lethal drones, sponsor of dark ops, employer of secret armies and shady contractors. As a rule, I avoid the weekly news magazines. They are filled with bad fiction disguised as “reporting,” and if I really feel the need to read mediocre prose I can always rely on the work of America’s growing horde of creative-writing professors. Nonetheless, I recently stumbled across a post in Time’s Swampland blog titled, “Obamacare Incompetence,” and succumbed to morbid curiosity. It seems that Joe Klein, a usually reliable Democrat hack, is deeply unhappy with the slow and clumsy implementation of the “Affordable Care Act.” Klein’s post focuses primarily on the implosion of Obamacare’s exchanges.

Since he first became a presidential candidate, President Obama must have spent millions of dollars in legal expenses to combat dozens of so-called "birther" challenges seeking the original documents pertaining to his birth. As president, he famously issued an electronic document on the White House website in 2011; the document purported to be his long-form birth certificate, though it is apparently a forgery. In addition, he has taken great pains to hide the paper trail of passport records, college transcripts, and other data -- all of which a prospective employer might require of a job applicant.

The trial of Philadelphia doctor Kermit Gosnell would seem to have all the elements of a spectacular news story: shocking allegations, horrifying visuals, sympathetic victims. Yet until late last week, much of the national media was silent as testimony about Gosnell’s alleged “house of horrors” abortion clinic rolled out. Much of the media attention outside Philadelphia, in fact, centered on how little media attention the story was receiving outside Philadelphia.
