Instead, No. 8 Michigan State obliterated No. 4 Michigan like the Spartans haven’t done in more than a decade – back when these programs were miles apart. That’s the way it looked again, at least for one night, in a 75-52 Spartans rout. It was the largest margin of victory for MSU since a 71-44 win in 2002, and the lead got as high as 31.

Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan´s sometimes brash style may help him persuade voters and city council members, but it also got him kicked out of a high school wrestling tournament over the weekend. Callahan, one of the Lehigh Valley´s most prominent Democrats, was ejected Saturday night from the District 11 wrestling tournament at Liberty High School after shouting at referee Dennis Buchman, a distinguished 22-year veteran of officiating high-stakes wrestling matches.

It would have expanded background checks to people purchasing weapons at gun shows and online sales, enjoyed 90 per cent support among the public and came on the back of the tragedy at Newtown. Yet, despite all that it had going for it, the Toomey-Manchin bill raised just 54 votes--six short of the number necessary for passage. “This is a pretty shameful day for Washington,” said Obama afterwards. President Obama angrily blamed the defeat Wednesday of his centerpiece gun-control proposal on lies spread by the National Rifle Association, calling it “a pretty shameful day for Washington.” “The gun lobby and its allies willfully lied about the bill,” Mr. Obama said in the White House rose garden about 90 minutes after the vote. “It came down to politics.” As he spoke, Mr. Obama was surrounded by family members of victims of the Newtown, Conn., school shooting. Also with him was former Rep. Gabby Giffords of Arizona, wounded in an assassination attempt.

The Senate delivered a devastating blow to President Obama’s agenda to regulate guns Wednesday by defeating a bipartisan proposal to expand background checks. It failed by a vote of 54 to 46, with 5 Democrats voting against it. Only 4 Republicans supported it. Democratic Sens. While the media are bearing the brunt of public skepticism over the handling of the Boston bombing, the behavior of government is also eroding public trust. Yesterday´s promised but cancelled news briefing is just one symptom. Andrew McCarthy of PJM notes that "Misinformation rather than enlightenment has been the order of the day in the investigation of Monday´s terrorist bombing of the Boston Marathon," and that part of it is the natural outgrowth of the desire of investigators to keep the details of their investigations secret, so as not to alert suspects.

Mark Kelly, the astronaut husband of former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, on Thursday upbraided senators who voted against gun legislation by saying they voted “out of fear.” ”If that vote had been a secret ballot, I bet you it would have passed with 80 votes,” Kelly told reporters. An article published on CNN´s website makes an unproven claim that pressure cooker bombs like the ones used at the Boston Marathon terror attack are a ´signature´ of ´right-wing extremists.´ The article was co-written by Jennifer Roland and Peter Bergen. Bergen is the CNN ananlyst made the claim that right-wing extremists could be behind the bombing less than two hours after it took place.
